Surgeon Testimonial

Matt Glascock, M.D.
Dr. Glascock is a great surgeon. I am a nurse and my husband has had the surgery a few years ago, so we knew what we were getting into. We had went to several seminars and visited with several surgeons before we chose Dr. Glascock. We knew instantly he was the one. He has a great bedside manner, which is still matter-of-fact, and I can appreciate that being in the medical profession. He tells you upfront what he expects and this surgery is just a tool, the rest will have to come from us the patients as he expects a lifetime committment. I really have faith him and would not have the surgery unless I was 100% sure of my surgeon. I was proud to have Dr. G as my surgeon. The only problem.. if I can point out any.. is that I haven't seen my actual surgeon since 2 weeks prior to my surgery, not even the day he operated on me. His PA, Angie, is great, and if you are doing well, well you usually see her and not him. Not sure how I really feel about this, but I guess I am glad I am doing ok. I would hope if there was a problem he would at least physically see me. I was prepared for this up front tho, I just thought I would see him the day of my surgery, oh well.

ER Visit Yesterday
on July 31, 2007 12:49 pm
7/31/07  Hi Everyone!  Well yesterday I was at work (I work overnights Saturdays and Sundays as a floor nurse) and I started having some weird stingy, prickly, sharp pains in my upper abdomen around 330 in the morning.  I was almost doubled over.. it was intense.  I shoulda just left my job and went to the ER but being a nurse it is hard to leave your patients.  So day, at whole grains only, take a daily stool softener and run I finished out my shift and a friend drove me to the ER.  They did labs/xrays and found I was FOS (we use this as an unofficial medical term amongst us in the medical cummnity know as "full of shit").  Sigh.. quite embarassing!  However, I feel the need to write about it b/c it can happen to anyone.  I thought I was doing a pretty healthy bowel regimen.  I mean I drink 100oz of water, run 2 miles a day, eat whole grains for fiber, take a stool softener daily...  I guess it isn't enough.. I need to start adding more fruit (something I have a hard time with as I am allergic to a lot of fruits b/c of the recent latex allergy I have developed, many don't realize that allergies to some fruits and veggies go hand in hand with latex).  I do good with apples and blueberries so I will start eating these more often and see what other fruits I might be able to add.  Maybe pears?  Anyway.. be proactive.. it can sneak up on you fast.  I was losing weight and my pants were getting bigger, I had no clue.  No red flags.  My awesome friend Linda at work was with me the whole time and took great care of me.. drove me home and all, she is a saint and I love her.  Linda if you are reading this, ya just don't know how much I appreciate your friendship.  You are the bomb!  I will update more on my 8 month anniversary later this week.  Thanks for reading..

Yesterday I was down 150 lbs total!
on July 11, 2007 9:04 am
7/11/07  This surgery never ceases to amaze me.. I was down 150 lbs as of yesterday!  Talk about a huge milestone!  I lost 48 preop so this puts me down 102 since surgery, 150 all together.  That is a good size person I was carrying around... crazy.  I cannot believe I am over 7 months out now, time sure flies. I can eat 3-4 oz of food with some veggies on the side no problem.  I can eat homeade wraps with a tortilla, 1 oz of laughing cow light cheese, 3 oz of deli meat and romaine rolled up and even a bite of something on the side like a pickle.. totally can eat more these days but I still limit myself to less than 1000 cals, I am trying to be faithful to my exercise, I believe its very important.  I eat less than 50-60 carbs a day and make sure they are whole grain.  I enjoy my lattes, I make them at home for less cals, once in a while I do go to Starbucks and indulge on the SF variaties if you will.  But it isn't that often.  I love our cappacino machine at home.  If you are spending the money at starbucks I suggest you quit and get a machine and do it yourself at home to save cals and money.  Nothing much else to report really.. enjoying my new life and freedom RNY has given me!!!

Overweight!!!
on July 3, 2007 11:30 am
7/3/07 - Hello everyone!  Reached another milestone today, thought I would share.  I am now considered "overweight" and no longer obese.  My weight was 179.5 today!  Yeah!  In 1.5 pounds I will have lost 150 lbs total with preop and post op weight loss.  Pretty excited about that!  Next goal is to weight 164 lbs, this will mean that I have lost 1/2 of myself!  Have a great 4th of July everyone!  Be safe..
