Surgeon Testimonial

Marek Lutrzykowski M.D.
Dr. L is very professional, to the point and dedicated to his practice. He doesn't mince words and tells it like it is. He's also very easy going and puts you at ease....so long as you are doing what's expected of you. He doesn't like complacency, and is pretty strict with what his expectations are of your diet pre and post op. One of the nurses told me he can be "difficult" to work with, at the same time she told me there isn't another Dr. at Crittenton more on top of their patients. He comes to see you everyday you are in the hospital, whether or not its the weekend. On a scale of 1-10, definately a 10, and definately better than any Dr. we've dealt with up here.

I have a Date!
on January 30, 2007 6:18 pm
Well, Bob and I went to Michigan yesterday, and we had a blast! We ate at two sinful places we've never been to, Chili's and TGIfridays. I found a Target, and Bob dragged me into Bass Pro Shops. Maybe boring for some, but all places we've never been to!

As for Dr. L, what can I say that hasn't already been said? The man is easy to get along with, knows everything about this surgery, and has a great bedside manner. He answered both of our questions with ease. He had no problem with my bone density, and was glad I had already started on Calcium and Vit D.

Big news is, I have a date! I'll be switched as of Feb 28!!!! One very short month away!!!

Approved!!!
on January 23, 2007 9:10 am
I got my OHIP approval yesterday, about 2 1/2 weeks after I applied. I had called Bev Lyman at OHIP to see what was going on, and she said she would have it out by today. Turns out I didn't even really have to wait that long, Dr. L's office called a few hours later and said they received the approval and booked my consult for this Monday!!!! Things are going so quick!!! (knock on wood!)

What a week it's been!
on January 6, 2007 5:46 am
We started out the week on here, doing as much research as we could about WLS in general, and Melissa had to learn alot. Shes actually started posting more, but she really doesn't like sitting on the computer after doing that at work for 8 hrs a day!

Mel called her PCP as soon at his office opened Tuesday morning at 9:00 to make an appointment to discuss her weight. He said he could get her in at 10:30 the same day! So Mel got all her paperwork together to plead her case, articles we had printed out supporting DS, that sort of stuff. As soon as she walked into his office he snatched it all out of her hand as said what do you have for me now?!? As soon as he read DS, he said, "You know I'll do anything to help you out Mel, where do I sign?" He also told her he has another patient who wants WLS, but they are lost as to how to go about getting it. They went over the papers together, and he asked her to be more specific in a few areas. He also asked her to write up his letter of recommendation for him, he's too busy, and made an appointment for the next day to sign everything. She went in at 4:00 the next afternoon and he signed it all, he OHIP forms, her cover letter, his letter of recommendation, and her list of Co-morbidities.

The next morning she faxed everything to OHIP, and called to confirm they received it. There was nobody there, but when I got home from work there was a message from a woman named Shirley. She needed more info. I called to see if I could help since Mel would be at work till their office closed. All they wanted was the correct spelling of her last name and OHIP number, but she already found it and forwarded her application to Kingston for approval.
Mel also called Dr. Lutzrowski's office and talked to Julie. They are anxiously waiting OHIP approval and looking forward to meeting us!

So thats where we stand at this point, the waiting begins. So far its been an exciting journey for both of us, the people you meet on this site are just too great!

Well, here we are! My husband Bob and I will be sharing posting duties on here, so you may hear from either one of us at any time. I have been thinking about this surgery for quite awhile, but I just made a final decision over the holidays, and discussed it with Bob, who was very supportive. I tried calling my PCP over Christmas, but he is off until tomorrow, so I'll be getting an appointment soon. I'm sure he will be very supportive, he has been my Dr. for almost 10 years, and knows everything I've been through. I'm not sure how familiar he is with DS or WLS in general, but thanks to this site, I've already met someone in town who has had DS done in Michigan, ad she gave me her PCP's name. It will be a good resource, apparantly this Dr. has helped others in the past. I'm excited and can't wait to finally get the ball rolling!!!
