The Bari-15 Blueberry Pomegranate Snack Bar is a crispy, light, fruity bar, dipped in a sweet creamy yogurt base. The crisps are soy, whey and milk protein based, and have no after taste. The bar contains 15 grams of protein from all three sources. You cannot tell this is a protein food.
"The Bariatric Advantage High Protein Meal Replacement comes in an economic 24-serving tub with a measured scoop to make accurate dispensing easy. Each 140-calorie serving provides a full 27 grams of protein, with only 7 grams of carbohydrate (of which 5 grams are fiber, and only 1 gram is sugar) and 4 grams of fat.
They are also lactose-free to best meet the needs of weight loss surgery patients. One hundred percent of the protein is from a high quality whey protein isolate (There is no soy protein, only a small amount of soy lecithin to mask aftertaste).
Fortified with between 15 and 50 percent of the DV for 23 essential vitamins and minerals, this product makes a perfect pre-operative weight loss shake or post-operative meal replacement for bariatric surgery patients. Our meal replacement also comes in a great variety of flavors (chocolate, vanilla, chocolate-mint, strawberry, banana, and coffee) as well and an unflavored shake that can be mixed with soup, yogurt, fruit or home-purchased flavorings."
I mixed the vanilla flavor with exactly eight ounces of cold filtered water in my Blender Bottle, and shook it like I meant it. The resulting shake had a great creamy, if somewhat thicker consistency. Had I added more water, it would have been quite liquid-y, but I enjoyed it like this. Usually powdered shakes are plain and liquid, this was a bit different.
The taste was straight up vanilla. I'm a vanilla girl, I like my vanilla protein. I had no complaints about the taste of this protein, and it would require no additional doctoring up, which I usually have to do to get plain vanilla powders DOWN. No additional sweetening, fruit or ice necessary, that is a big deal. (I tend to tell people to learn how to doctor up their powders to learn to live with the nasty flavors, but, this, this doesn't need it.) I am looking forward to trying the other flavors now.
Now since I am a fan of BIG SHAKES, I might consider adding lots of ice and blending it next time to make myself a longer-lasting meal, but I am a five year post op. I sipped it plain, and enjoyed it. I typically do not enjoy plain protein shakes, powders never.
As a bariatric baby, this 27 gram protein shake made in (Maybe one scoop in 4 to start as a very newbie) 8 ounces of water is quite perfect and since it's lactose free, you're likely to not have any distress from milk sugar.
