One Week Post Op! Woot! Woot!

Oct 15, 2014

So today marked one week post my Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy surgery last Thursday and it did not disappoint. I took my daily weigh to discover that I have lost 20 lbs in the past month! (officially its 19 but at home butt naked on an empty stomach, I call it 20.) At first I was a little taken aback. It's too much! Too soon! Where's the gradual!?! But my other mind reminded me that this is what I was hoping for, so I should just be grateful. Today is also the last day of my Clear Liquid diet.#thankgoodness! I can honestly say I'm jealous of people who go straight into puddings and shakes. 200 Calories a day is not enough!!!!

I got to celebrate with a follow up appointment with my surgeon who is awesome btw. So, I spent the morning trying to figure out how to dress so that he could easily access my ports. Took my first real shower in a long while... It was anti-climatic. Doc was very pleased with the 19 lbs I've lost since the last time he saw me. He also took the dressings off my scars and said not to scrub but everything else should be okay. The stomach escape route felt especially exposed and I didn't enjoy sitting in my car so I promptly went to Target and bought all new band-aids and antiseptic to keep them covered for a bit longer. #nopeimnotready

While at Target, I prepared for the next phase of eating... Full Liquids! Doc did burst my bubble and tell me that it is not yet time for Greek Yogurt. #massivesadface I can have light yogurt but who even eats that anymore?!?! Target didn't have a ton to choose from, but I ended up getting a quart of the Dannon and the Target brand Non-fat plain yogurts. I also picked up some sugar-free fat-free pudding mix to play with. As I was perusing the aisles I thought it wouldn't hurt to buy some items for week 3, so I got some plain oatmeal and soups that I can put in the blender. Target did not have a great selection of protein powders so I knew I still needed to hit GNC.

But my next stop was Costco. I forgot to mention that today is PAYDAY. I've needed new tires since May and I do not want to go into the Polar Vortex with bald wheels, so I took her in for a new set. I spent the 2 hour wait wandering around the store and exercising the most intense self control I've ever seen in myself. I did have to take a seat for about an hour on the one piece of furniture they still had out. Once my brain returned, I spent less than $30 bucks on makeup remover towels and Pledge. Got my dear car back. She seems pretty pleased with her new set of kicks. Bring on the Polar Vortex she cried!

Lastly, I headed to GNC to get Protein powder. Since I've spent the last week living off of Isopure Drink and water, I thought it pretty safe to just stick with that brand. The store had one last package of 1 LB vanilla powder. Everything else was 5 lbs and $50... Umm... I just bought tires. Ain't nobody got time for that! So I purchased the one package and got a GNC card. I'm certain we are going to become well acquainted in the next few months/years. Once I had done all that I pretty much had it with the day so instead of going to the grocery store for almond milk and sugar free syrups... I tried my luck at the 7-11 across the street from my complex. No dice. I ended up with a half gallon of milk. At least I know it works with Pudding.

And that was my day! I came home and prepared some options for tomorrow. Regular pudding and Protein Pudding. I made the protein pudding by putting 2 scoops of the Isopure into 1 cup of yogurt. I mixed that together and THEN added the pudding powder. When I added the protein powder to pudding that had already set, it broke it down. #LessonLearned. I also prepared some Crystal Light to sip on tomorrow.

All-in-All it was a great day. I walked enough to make up for the last 2 days in bed. I got in all my liquids and was really regular. I'm excited for tomorrow but I know that it might suck a bit as I learn what my body is willing to tolerate. But it has to happen because I'm fairly certain my hair is starting to shed big time. Well this is enough. -KAS
