Tomorrow is the Big Day!!!
on July 24, 2007 4:25 pm

Well, I have to admit I'm a bit nervous.  It seems so surreal, when you 'elect' to have surgery.  I feel great though.....I have lost 16 lbs pre-op so I am well-prepared for my journey.  Thank you to all who support me, although I haven't made too many friends yet.

I will post some befores shortly and also pics of my tum tum post op.  'til then.....Hasta la Vista, baby!

My first appointment was today!
on July 10, 2007 8:15 pm

Today I met my doctor.  My mom met with the same office, but my doctor's partner for her surgery a month ago.  I am private pay so we're moving along while she awaits her approval thru insurance.

Everything went well.  They did pre-op blood work and an EKG on me.  I was surprised to find I was borderline on the EKG, which means that I have high heart risk most likely due to my weight.  Hopefully the anesthesiologist will go forth with my surgery based on his determination from the test.

MY SURGERY IS SET FOR 7/25!!!!!  Yay....I will be a bandster.

I will be starting on the Atkins tomorrow to shrink my liver for surgery.  I am a little scared, but WAY MORE excited!  More to follow.....

My Story

Hi, my name is Michele and I live in Texas, right outside of San Antonio.  I am from Vermont, the Green Mountain state.  It is really beautiful there, but I couldn't take the cold weather any longer.   I'd float and swim in a pool 365 days a year, if I could (here in Texas of course)!

I've always been 'big' for my age.....and the age was early on.  Luckily I had great friends in a smaller school, so I never really had to face any repercussions from being overweight, except for running in gym class....hated it!  Gym teacher always gave me a hard time.  ANYWAY.....in my early 20's I went on the Optifast program (all liquids for 12 weeks-Oprah's diet).  I lost 42 lbs and 19" in 12 weeks.  Gained it back even quicker.  To this day, I can barely stomach to look at a chocolate shake.  The flaw in their system was that they didn't talk about reintroducing food until the week before and I think we were all in a state of panic....lol.  Other than that, I tried all the smaller ones to no avail.  I really never was 'in' it because I was always ok in my skin.  I had sexy feeling days and I felt good about myself.  I would say everything changed when I got married 7 years ago.  Not overnight, but gradually I zoomed right past 300.  Lots involved there, it interested feel free to ask, but to avoid boring most of you I'll just skip it.  Nov. of 2005 I started going to a gym.  I was 319.  I felt great, had lots more energy, but I hated putting my bra on and actually going there in the evening which was my only time option.  I lost 20 lbs in 3 weeks and was also on a diet plan the gym trainer put me on which was awesome!!!!  During the holidays I started off good, but then went to hell in a handbasket and gained it all back by January.  This last year has really gone crazy....I've been more depressed, my ankles swell up.  Being without insurance is not good, but I'm really healthy so far, now just starting to get worried.  My mom and I started talking about this more and more and then we made a final decision to do it together...hopefully to extend both of our lives
