Surgeon Testimonial

Paul Kemmeter, MD
He's short and small. Doesn't appear to be Dutch. What's the deal? This is West Michigan! Pleasant and very intelligent. A nice guy.

First impression didn't change. The man is a complete professional.

Their office staff is causing me to evaluate all other services and especially medical services differently. These people are spooky helpful. Even the reciptionists who have to deal with some seriously wild stuff at least TRY hard to understand me and my particular issues. What's with that? I was sort of put off by not being put off. The dietitians, PAs, MSWs and especially the physiologist were incredible. They didn't put up with my crap and yet cared about me.

I suppose he could work for free, that might help. I'm not sure his family would be up for that though.

If you like to screwy around and see what you can get away with, cheat, etc. then move on. These people will find you out, explain how to properly act and tell you it's up to you. They're not going to drag you through this. If you lean on them though they'll hold you up. Ask questions. I came in to every appointment with a list for each person I was going to meet with. They actually liked that and gave me more information than I asked for. Bizarre!

Aftercare is all they talk about. If you're not serious about aftercare you're going to get frustrated because they are.

Structured? It's the King of Castle Structured.

They tell you all the percentages of risk and explain their percentages and what problems their patients have had. They explain what problems you might have specifically and what they're going to do about it. Maybe I asked questions (which were answered) but I'm not sure how they could have given me more informaiton.

I don't know because their aftercare is yearly appointments it sounds like for life so I'd have to get back to you on how I rate them. So far I've never experienced anything like these people. It'll be interesting to see if they can keep it up and I might since I could almost out live them now.

He told me he finished my surgery in almost record time. Something like an hour and forty minutes. I'm not sure if that's competence but it sure as heck is fast. Not that I was in a hurry.

His bedside manner was quick, terse and very informative. That might set some people off and maybe he read that I wasn't into a bunch of emotion exchange.

The hospital staff were fantastic too. It's hard to believe that I wasn't someone special or my name wasn't on some good list somewhere. Do you suppose they treat everyone this well?

My Story

I was 491lbs, 66" waist, 6XLT shirt, size 15 4E shoes, couldn't wear a watch, almost couldn't fit in the mini van I drive on August 11, 2005.

Today is July 7, 2007. I was 227 a few days ago, 36" waist, L or XL shirt, size 13 4E shoe, I wear a watch that had to have a link removed from the store bought band. I'm still having problems driving the mini van though because I ride my bicycle into work now (10 miles one way). Sure it's good exercise but think of all the gas money I save! I'm running 5K, 10K and longer races that I bicycle to (have to warm up you know). I cook a lot more/better too.

Have a great day!
