Surgeon Testimonial

Mahbod Mark Paya, M. D.
I just have to say, what a pro!rnrnI have spoken to many friends and co-workers who have had this procedure, and while most have had no complications at all, some have, and are suffering up to a year later.rnrnAfter Dr. Paya's work was completed, I was out of the hospital literally a day and a half after the surgery was complete!! I have had NO complications, and am emotionally ready to return to work just 8 days after the surgery. rnrnHis staff is very professional, couteous, and a fun group to visit! They are very attentive to the needs of the patient, and even knew me by name when I would call!rnrnI would recommend all my friends and family, and even strangers, to have their work done by Dr. Paya! I just can't speak highly enough of this team!

The first attempt... (7/21/2006)
on July 23, 2006 12:00 am
Well, well, well....

No need to celebrate JUST yet. I went in for the surgery, the five cuts were made, and the first incision was made in my stomach. But upon first look, the doctors just happened to see (thankfuly) something strange on the lining of my stomach. They discussed it in length, and neither knew exactly what it was. They surmised that it's either ulcers, an infection, or (gulp) cancer in my stomach. Rather than proceeding with the surgery, they did a biopsy on the areas, repaired the first stomach incision, and closed up the five outer incisions.

Later, when I was more awake, they explained that to proceed with the surgery would have meant stapling whatever they found permanently inside the unused portion of my stomach. It would have gone untreated.

I am waiting to get the results back from the biopsy. If it's an infection or ulcers, they can be treated within 3-6 weeks and I can go back in and they can finish the job. If it's cancer, other options are available, like removing the stomach entirely.

Monday will be a very important day for me.

The bad news, I still have to go through recovery for the surgery that they did do. The good news is, I know what to expect for recovery, now. I imagine it wil be worse when they finish the procedure, but if it's anything like what I've been through so far, it's not so bad!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I will continue to use them!

My Story

Being "only" 60 pounds overweight, my friends would say "...but you don't look THAT big" when I would tell them I was having the surgery.  When I would explain that I also have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and a family history of heart disease, they became more understanding.
