I had RNY gastric bypass on 12-28-06.  It took me 3mo to get insurance approval with united.  My Job requires a 3 mo mediacally supervised weight management program.  I was affriad that if I did not loose enought I would not get approved. I only lost 3-4 lbs and still got approved.  The girl who does the insurance at my Dr's office told me that they only want to see that you will come to appts and do what they tell you.  My starting weight was 275 and my BmI was 46%.  I am 5'4 and 32 years old.

My Story

3-10-07 230lbs

My loss has been really slow lately, only 8 lbs in 1 month.  I have started working out at the gym.  I go for about 1 1/2 hours 3-4 times per week.  My size 20's are loose, but I can not fit into an 18 yet. I really feel like I need a big loss right now. I am starting to feel like I will be the only person who will stay fat after WLS.  I get my protien in everyday, but I also manage to eat carbs and junk food.  I drink when I eat because it feels better when I eat.  I am going to Houston to visit this week, so my commitment is to limit my carbs the week after.

2-10-2007 238 lbs

I haven't been exercising as much as I should and noticed that my thighs look like they have melted.  So last night I started back with a full workout. I have been eating chicken with no problems as long as it is moist.  I'm starting to feel like me again.  Now when I look in the mirror I look like what I think I should.  I am wearing a 22 now(was in a 26).  I am back in all my old clothes and starting to fit some clothes a friend gave me. I can get in an old pair of size 20 jeans but the belly area doesn't look too hot yet.

1-27-07 247 lbs

My surgery went well, no complications.  Getting used to drinking has been a stuggle up until the past few days.  I am finally able to get down more that 40-50 oz of water a day. At first drinking was uncomfortable, but it is much better.  I hated to put anything in my mouth while I was on full liquids.  I would take me an hour or so to finish an atkins shake 11 oz, then I felt sick for about another hour after.  I told my Dr. and he suggested that I get Isopure.  This has been my main source of protien now for about 3 weeks.  It doesn't taste just wonderful, but it is tolerable and there are no side effects.  I bought it at GNC already mixed in the bottles, a 20oz bottle has 40 grams of protien. It costs 3.75 a bottle, but it is well worth it.  Beside I am saving tons of money not eating out, or really at all.  After 2 weeks I started eating refried bean, mashed potatoes and smoothies.  By three weeks I had some soft pasta.  At my 3 week check my dr. said I could try fish and veggies.  I have not had problems with solids.  It actually feels better than liquids and I can get some protien with food now.  I had a couple of days where I did not do so well with my protien and vitamins and I was extremely tired and couldn't think.  I have never thrown up, If I feel full I stop eating. I can eat 2 oz of fish with about 2 tablespoons of refried beans.  I put hot sauce in my beans, It keeps them moist.  If I chew good and it is moist food It doesn't hurt.  I have been doing pretty good on exercising.  I walk 1-2mi 3 x's a week and have been doing arm exercises with 3 lb weighs. Tonight I am going up to 5 lb weights.  2 nights ago went for 1mi walking half and jogging half.  I am still sore all over.  Even though I lost 28 lbs I still feel equally as fat.  I have been obssessed with the scale.  Last night I had a break down because my weight had not changed in 5 days.  But this morning I was 1 lb lighter.  I still feel down about it though and I know I am actually doing good. In about 1-2 mo I plan on joining a gym.  I keep trying to push myself a little further with the exercise each time.  On The Biggest Loser there was a man who weight 400 and he ran.  If he can I can and will.  My goal is to loose 3-5lbs per week.  This may not be realistic, but I feel with only taking in 500-600 cal per day at max I can do this.  My basic metabolic rate is 3100 per day.  So if I am not loosing like I want then I need to burn more calories.
