Surgeon Testimonial

Michael L. Schwartz, M.D.
Right off the bat, I liked Dr. Schwartz. I trusted him, because he and his partner came so highly recommended. He spoke at my initial seminar and disclosed that he had a gastric bypass several years ago himself! In my initial surgical consultation he answered many questions and told me what I needed to complete in order to have the surgery. He was thorough and very helpful and patient with all my questions. rn Dr. Schwartz is very careful to have the best surgery possible. He prides himself on the success rate of WLS at Minneapolis Bariatric Clinic. He has every intention of keeping it a Center of Excellence for WLS. I think he is both a consummate professional and technically, and excellent surgeon. He is very personable, as well. Have both the surgical competence and the likable bedside manner are a rare combination. The program at the clinic is thorough as well, and I will be followed there for years to come.

Counting down...
on July 28, 2009 11:28 am
Since getting the word from the surgeon that certain things would have to take place before surgery, I have taken those steps.  I did the blood work, follow up with the psychologist, the lung specialist appt., the lung x-ray and have scheduled the endoscopy - next week!   So far all have given me clearances.  I think the endoscopy is last on my list.  Yikes!  I COULD have a date soon.

Meanwhile, since DH has to lose 20 pounds, I'm losing, too.  Down 3, so far!   All of this preparation has been good - I want a thorough doctor.  But the patience factor is not really good.  It's like it's taking forever!!  I am willing to do whatever I must.  The time will pass.

We saw the surgeon yesterday!

Michael and I went to the Bariatric Clinic and spent most of the day there yesterday.  We were weighed, measured and photographed.  Then we met with the doctor, we each had a physical, and then a long discussion with the doctor.  We got our questions answered and we got a list of things left to do before he's going to schedule our surgery.  Blood tests for both of us.  Michael has to meet with an oncologist regarding his colon cancer (which has been removed) to make sure he's a good candidate.  He also has to lose 20 pounds before the date is set.
I have to have an endoscopy to study my esophagus and make sure my acid reflux has not created damage.  I have to meet with a pulmonary specialist to make sure everything is fine (it is).  I may or may not have to have a sleep study done, depending on what the pulmonary spec. says.  I don't HAVE to lose any weight, but must maintain my current number.  However, if DH is losing, I will too!
All in all it was a long day, with meeting with the dietitan for a couple of hours, too.  But we learned a lot and realized the doctors are really thorough, which is just fine.
We continue to be positive on this journey.
