Picked out my Bridesmaid Dress & it's a... on May 26, 2008 7:23 am
05/26/08 - this weekend I met up with my girlfriend who is getting married on St John in Nov. She knows about the surgery & is fine with everyone waiting until the last minute to order our dresses. What she did was pick out the color (Parrot Blue) and the fabric (Shantung Silk) from this one designer (Siri) and told us we can pick out any style we liked in "cocktail length" (and there is about 50 styles to choose from!) Even tho the store only carried samples sizes (ie: 6's and 8's), the salesperson was able to hold the back of the dress closed enough for us to get a good idea of what it will look like in another 5 1/2 mths from now.
Check out what I picked:

click on the dress to see the front / back
oh....today the scale said 217.5, which means I have now lost 46 lbs since surgery!

review of Lenox Hill Hospital Support Group on May 16, 2008 11:10 am
05/16/08 - I had SO MUCH FUN last night. I went in expecting the worst (especially after the Hackensack meeting - see my review below) and was really suprised. In fact, I have been putting off attending meetings at this place cuz I figured:
a) they'd be lame (I know...I was judgemental...sorry )
AND
b) the timing was inconvient since I would then have to commute home from 77th St/Lex to Northern NJ
Boy am I glad I attended!
Since this was my first meeting, I was not on the NUT's email distribution list. Those who were knew to bring work out clothes.
Why?
The GUEST SPEAKER (yes, the NUT gets guest speakers to come down!!!) was her personal trainer and both the NUT & the trainer had all of us (from 3 weeks out to 3 yrs out) working out. Ok, not at her triathlete level, but everything from squats & lunges, to jumping thru hoops, to jumping jacks, to pushups. Almost all was done as a competion of two teams of 15. He even had this cool mix that announced the timing we were gonna do each interval excersize.
At first I was not that happy, cuz although I wasnt in heels, I was in work clothes...but then the endorphins kicked in - and I had a blast.
I can't wait until next mths meeting - the NUT mentioned she is bringing a chef to show us some easy WLS recipes.
There really wasnt a lot of "sit around Q&A" time...but that is what I have all of your guys on the forums for

BIG Medicine this Sunday (set your DVR's) on May 15, 2008 6:56 am
05/15/08 - I only found out about this show while I was home recovering from my surgery & by that time I only got to watch 2 re-run episodes. The stories of the people featured on this show are pretty interesting (and not all filler-fluff like on other shows), so I'm happy to hear the show hasnt been cancelled...in fact a new season is starting soon on Wed nights at 10pm.
In the meantime....they are runnng a marathon THIS SUNDAY from 7pm - 2am (EST)...and reviewing the synopsis of the list - none are the 2 that I've already seen. Cool. I'm def going to set my DVR for that time slot!

Perfect Sushi for Me on May 14, 2008 5:01 pm
05/14/08 - I love sushi...I dont just LIKE it...I LOVE it! If I could afford it - I'd eat it every night (in fact, when I am busy at work & have to order lunch via expense account...it's a no brainer).
About the same time that I had my surgery, a new sushi place opened up in my town. It may not be the the largest, fanciest place - but hands down they have the freshest fish I've ever eaten & they are super nice to me...which is always a plus (who doesnt like having their ego stroked???). For the last 1.5 mths, I've been stopping off 2-3 times a week & picking up 2 pieces of sashimi for dinner (usually tuna, salmon or yellowtail). About 3 weeks ago I asked them if I could also have a sliver or avacado with my sashimi. They said of course (YUMMMMM!)
Tonight I asked if they could possibly do a hand roll without any rice. Look what they came up with for me:

It's a SPICY TUNA with AVOCADO ROLL wrapped in CUCUMBER. In the back toward the left is one piece of salmon sashimi (come on - tell me this does not look beyond yummy!)
It took me almost a 1/2 hr to eat cuz I was picking it apart (and I couldn't eat all of the cucumber), but that was the most pefect meal I've eaten since my surgery!
Oh, the best thing is that they said they can do any roll for me wrapped in cucumber....I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

Peanut Butter on May 7, 2008 11:19 am
05/07/08 - Last night my "what ifs" got the best of me. I really havent had any desire for any special foods, but last night as I was about to make myself chili for dinner I spun the lazy susan drawer that holds the canned foods, cerals, oils, etc & came upon a container of Jif.
Was it low sugar Jif - ummmmmmmm, NO - it was the regular buy in the store along the jelly/jam aisle super chunk version that in the past I would slab onto a slice of bread & then plop some grape jelly ontop of (I personally was a smusher, but that's in the past)
So I stuck a TEASPOON into the jar & licked.
OMG - it tasted really, really good (I dont remember it ever tasting this yummy). So I took my teaspoon & sat on the sofa & licked it like a lolipop. A few minutes later, that spoon was tossed in the sink & I grabbed a TABLESPOON & dug out another spoonful. A big one.
Screw the chili - SuperChunk Jif was perfect!
I then waited for some kind of attack (I've heard stories that peanut butter can sometimes NOT be your friend).
Me & SuperChunk Jif are now on a first name basis - I wish I didnt know I could eat it...but I can. I'm glad my hubby wasnt home at the time - he would have thought I went mental...he just doesnt get how I ENJOY food. To him, food is just energy.

OUCH on May 6, 2008 6:56 am
05/06/08 - So about a week & half ago I joined a gym & immediately got back into my cardio routine of Elipitcal StairMaster, Recumbant Cycling or the Treadmill. I was already up to 35 minutes on the machines, so decided to take the next step....SIGN UP FOR SOME PERSONAL TRAINING SESSIONS
I am completely clueless how to do anything in a gym that doesn't have instructions posted to the machine. I was honest with the trainer (as embarrasing as it was, I figured it was necessary) about my recent weight loss & the fact that I am not in very good physical shape right now - but want to work with him on areas that will get the "loose skin".
So after a 5 min warm up, he started me on squats & lunges.....OWWWWWWWWW! Then we did all of these arm pulls & holds.....OWWWWWWWWWWW, again!
I thought I was in pain when I left - but OMG, that was nothing compared to what I woke up with. I literally had to lower myself onto the toilet cuz my legs were so stiff - lol. Last night me & Mr BENGAY had an enjoyable & smelly session!
I signed up for 6 more sessions - every sunday, baby

some Foods are NOT the same TWICE in a Row on May 5, 2008 11:01 am
05/05/08 - I think I now understand what some people mean about food not being the same one day as the next. About a week ago I made EggFace's Crab/Mushroom Casserole. It was really good & I ate some for dinner & then took a tupperware for my lunch the next day. By the time I got home - it was gone. Last night I made the Stuffed Mushroom's version. The recipe is exactly the same. I ate 1/2 a mushroom & knew immediatly something was wrong. Not sure if it was the crab, the mayo, the horseradish or what...but something was stuck & if I took one more bite I might throw up. In fact...I had to relax for about 40 min for whatever was stuck to go away. I soothed it with some FF Veggie Chili (I should just buy stock in Hormel, I eat so much of this stuff) & then a while later had a SF Fudgicle.
On the flip side - my family was JUST FINE with me not being to eat them - I doubled the orig recipe & made 25...and all were gone before dinner was over. My family sure loves EggFace!
Here is an update on my weight - this morning the scale said 225 even = 38.5lb loss

review of Hackensack Hosptial Support Group on May 2, 2008 6:23 pm
05/02/08 - I finally attended a mthly support group at Hackensack Univ Hospital last night. It was from 6:30-8pm (Hackensack cancelled it's meeting last mth, Morristown is just TOO early & Montclair, who is the closest, snubbed me & told me that they do not welcome outsiders to attend).
I wasn't really impressed. WHY?
There was a large turnout (like 45 people), but 3/4 of them haven't had the surgery yet. And for almost the full hr & half, they were the only ones speaking & asking questions. In fact, in the last 15 min of the meeting - the NUT asked the pre-ops if they had any more questions. I am all for pre-ops attending support group meeting....but COME ON - this wasn't a "Post-Op Support Group" meeting. It was a pre-op Q&A meeting. For over an hr I heard "does it hurt?", "what does full feel like", etc. Those were thing that should have been covered at orientation.
How does that help me - who is 9 wks out? It didn't.
I asked two questions towards the end...and to tell you the truth - I didn't really feel comfortable doing that. I really feel support groups are necessary for my postive outcome, so I'll attend another meeting next mth...but I really do hope that the NUT gears it more towards the post-ops & not the pre-ops. Just my opinion.
EDIT: I found out after posting this on the NJ Forum that the person who I thought was the NUT, was actually just the office manager

retarded OMG moment, but I dont care on May 1, 2008 6:27 am
05/01/08 - I have tons of underpants in size MEDIUM, LARGE and what I wear now XLARGE...all still with tags on (I think Victoria Secret sells them everywhere 5 for $25, so - you never can just buy 4, right?) I'm still too lazy to do the laundry from this weekend (I'm starting to see a pattern - I also havent picked up the drycleaning yet!), so I put on the LARGE this morning....
...and they fit fine
This morning the scale said 226.5 = 37 lbs lost!
