Surgeon Testimonial

Paul Kemmeter
Can't say enough about Dr. Kemmeter and the staff at Grand Health Partners in Grand Rapids, MI. He is such a great person and an excellent surgeon and very thorough in everything. The Bariatric program at GHP is very structured and complete. All aspects of care are done there as well as all testing. They have their own nutritionists, exercise physiologist, psych evals, and all foods needed for pre- and post-op. They do all their own endoscopy, sleep studies, gall bladder scans, etc. They have a very strong emphasis on after-care and are not there just to do your surgery and then let you go. rnI would definitely rate Dr. K as a 10 out of 10!

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
Endless diets over the last 40 years. I can lose weight but cannot keep it off. I had finally gotten to the point of not even being able to make myself diet anymore because I knew I would fail at some point. I had thought about bariatric surgery for years and finally decided to do it.

Time for an end of year update here! I got through the holidays in one piece without too much food difficulties. We had our last party last night and it went well. I had a couple of meatballs, a dab of potato salad, a little jello salad, and a small dab of chicken casserole, And lots of pickles, a few chips and dip, and a few veggies with dip. Felt slightly crappy going home, but I was really tired as I had worked the 2 nights before and had not slept much yesterday. I find I have a lot more trouble with food if I am very tired(like some nights at work). But in general I think things are going well, and I have even started walking again! I have to get out this morning before the snow comes that they are predicting for this afternoon and tonight. I hike all the way to the back of the field in the snow, so it is a lot of work and takes me 30 minutes to go out and back.
I had everyone over here for Christmas, which is actually only 13 of us. Our kids and their SO's, my husband's parents, and my parents. They came late afternoon and we ate about 5:30 and then opened gifts. I made way too much food, so when I went to work that night I took 4 bags of cookies with me so they were out of my sight, and sent as much food as possible home with people from the party. I still have some cleaning up to finish, but got all the trash bagged up and half of the dishes done, so need to finish that today. I love Christmas, but am always kind of glad when it is over.
My weight loss is going great, 84 lbs. total since I started! I feel so much better already with that much gone and it is so much easier to get around and do things. I still struggle with getting my Protein and water in, but am doing good with my vitamins. My next appointment at the surgeon's is in January, and I have to get my bloodwork drawn before then, so am curious to find out where I stand. Happy New Year everyone!

Well, it's almost Christmas and I can't believe how fast time is going by. I started back to work last week and although the first night was a little rough, I seem to be back in the groove again. Kind of an adjustment to get back to staying awake all night when I have been sleeping like a normal person for 6 weeks!. Have a little difficulty with eating at night when I am tired, but I started going to break at an earlier time before I get too tired and that seems to help.
The food thing seems to be getting a little bit easier. I still have some days that just aren't good food days, but they are less and less frequent now. My only problem I still have trouble with is eating too fast at times, but I'm getting better. Last night I did it and had to vomit to stop the gagging/pain, and then felt like crap until I took some Maalox. But that is only the 4th time I threw up since surgery, so I think I'm doing OK.
I have been busy trying to get my Christmas shopping done and am almost there. I think one day next week I am going to the mall to finish. I usually stay away from malls, but there are some things I need from there. We have our first party next Saturday with my side of the family. Today I went to the tree farm and got the Christmas tree. It's a Frasier Fir and smells so good! I have it up in the family room, and tomorrow I'm going to decorate it. I bought fresh wreaths for both doors, too, so we are all Christmassy! I put all my other things up over the past 2 weeks; mantle decor, my Elfland village, and all the other little touches. Now I just have to get my outdoor lighted deer and trees up and I'll be all set. I do so love this time of the year!
