Surgeon Testimonial

Robert Marvin, M.D.
My first impression of Dr. Marvin was "professional". During the seminar he was friendly and patient, answering all my questions, most of the time before I asked them. I am confident that I have picked the right surgeon to perform my gastric bypass.

Michael.....You are about to go on the best journey of your life. This journey is SOOO AMAZING !!!!! You will hit stumbling blocks somewhere along the road but know that each and everyone of us will be here to lead you on to success. You too will soon join us on the loosers bench !!!! Don't think that if you fall we won't be far behind to help you up.....all you have to do is ask us for help. Please do so too. Don't try to walk this journey alone...because trust me....that is NOT a easy road to walk by yourself. Ask for help or advice when needed but please take everything that you get with a grain of salt since all of our surgeon's criteria are totally differant. But know that we will be with you along your way and so will GOD. Good luck to a new healthier you in the future. And remember you will NEVER be alone in your journey as long as you stay here on the TMB. Good luck and GOD bless you !!!! Hugs and Blessings ~~~ Vivian

Michael's Rants

5 Days post-op...its starting!!
on May 9, 2008 6:51 pm
Ok...so the day of surgery I weighed 295...down from 310 when I went to my seminar in March. When I got home from surgery I weighed myself and dangit...I weighed 315.  My Dad and a friend who had surgery said it was probably gas and fluid that your body gets from surgery.  Well, today, 5 days post-op I weighed again and I was 295 again!!  I seem to have gotten past most of the gas pain now and hope to really start seeing a difference now

I am so hyped.  Tomorrow I am driving to Houston for my 1 on 1 consultation with my surgeon.  Monday is the BIG DAY!!  I didn't think I would be so nervous!!   My last day of work was today.  My students are really being supportive.  One of my students began crying...she was worried that I wouldn't come back.  At some point I will have to explain to you guys what kind of place I work at.  As I was saying...tommorow I see the surgeon...Saturday I have my final meeting for my full teaching certification...Sunday, my father and I will go BACK to Houston to stay in the closest hotel there is to my hospital.

Tommorow I will find out my actual surgery time.  I hope its early, I would hate to have to starve until late afternoon.  I just want to get this done and start my new life already!!

10 more days!!
on April 25, 2008 6:48 pm
Busy day today.  I worked all day and then had to rush to an ATM, get cash, and then go get a money order so that I could pay my pro-rated rent for my new apartment and get the keys.  Since about 5 PM I have slowly been taking things over.  Nothing big, I have movers coming in the morning for that.  Also, today I got a call from Dr. Marvins office.  They received clearance letters from the Hematologist and the Endoscopy doctor.  I have officially jumped through all of the hoops!!  Now I just have to wait.  On May 2nd I have to drive to Houston to see Dr. Marvin in person and have my last physical.  I will be having my surgery on May 5th.  I don't know what time the surgery will be yet, I will find out on the 2nd.  I will be sure to let you know ( if anyone is actually reading this...LOL)  My surgery is going to be at University General Hospital.  The hospital is out-of-network but the surgeons office was able to convince the insurance to allow the surgery to be there at in-network prices.  This is a pretty cool hospital from what I have read.  Valet parking.  Every room is a single.  Every room has a flat screen tv...Also, they have personal chefs!!  I can't wait.  Reading the customer surveys, most say that the accomodations are better than most 5 star hotels.  I sure hope that is true!!  Well enough for tonight...I have to keep packing!!!

Endoscopy
on April 16, 2008 3:38 pm
Just got home...things went pretty well..i have a slight hiatel hernia...he said its not a big deal and nothing that could stop my surgery.  He wanted me to take Prilosec due to some swelling in my esophagus...again, he said it was not a biggie.  He did biopsy the section of my esophogus that was inflammed...I should find out about that within 7 days.  They are checking for H Plori...which is funny since I was tested for that 2 weeks ago...ugh..other than that, all hoops have been jumped through.  I have my final consultation with Dr. Marvin on May 2nd and then the actual surgery on May 5th.  It can't get here quick enough.

UGH
on April 1, 2008 6:47 pm
Well, I spent all day in Houston today.  I went to my surgeons office to talk to the medical doctor.  They seem to be overly cautious about just about everything.  The doctor asked me if I ever get heartburn.  I stated that I do when I eat mexican food or sausage.  They have now scheduled an endoscopy two weeks from now.  I couldn't believe it.  Doesn't everyone get heartburn when they eat spicy food?  They also scheduled me to see a Hemotologist on the same day.  That one I understood due to the fact that I have systemic lupus and my blood is hypercoagulable.  The office did something that really confused me though...I had to pay a 25 dollar co-pay to see the doctor.  But they also charged another 25 dollar co-pay to have the H-p something bacteria checked.  You know...blowing into that bag.  I have always been under the impression that when you go see a specialist you pay your co-pay and then the insurance company covers 100% of ANYTHING thats done to you there...does this sound right to you guys?

After seeing the MD in my surgeons office I went to see a cardiologist due to my heart attack 4 years ago.  They did a stress test and everything!!  It was cool and they gave me a clean bill of health.  They certified me for surgery.

After seeing the Cardiologist I went to see the Pulmonologist due to my asthma and sleep apnea.  ANOTHER CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH.  They certified me for surgery.

Now all I have left is the stupid endoscopy and the hemotologist.  Can't wait to get that over with.

I wish May 5th would get here already!!!
