Almost there!
on March 2, 2008 8:38 pm
Well, I had to get my iron levels up before I could be released by the NUT.  I have been on supplements for almost two months now.  My levels went up and the NUT spoke with Dr. Mann and all is a go!  I called for my PRE OP APPT. and there are no appts. left for March!  I am the second person on the list for April.  I called and was told that I could probably plan on my surgery being sometime during the last two weeks of April. I am going to try very hard to keep off the weight I have lost so far.  I would hate to go in and have gained before my surgery.  I am  so ready to do this.  I want to get some painting done and the yard ready for spring before I have my surgery.  That should keep me busy for a while!

Getting Closer!!!
on January 4, 2008 4:03 pm
Somehow things got out of order for me at the Naval Hospital.  I had my labs done mid December, I had my Psyc. appt. last week(Prior to my appt. with Dr. Mann), and today I met with Dr. Mann.  He was so nice.  I had my EKG and Chest X-Ray's comepleted today as well.  My nut appt. is next week and I have an appt. for gall bladder ultrasound on the 29th.  Then, I can get a surgery date.  More waiting but I have tons of things I want to get done around the house prior to surgery so time will fly by.  I have conferences for the frist two weeks of February for work and inventory at the old job along with a ton of medical supplies to inventory and prepare for shipment.  So I will be very busy.  I am excited, scared, etc.  Probably a different emotion for every hour of the day.  People keep asking me if I am scared!  Enough already.  I am 100% sure I want to do this.  I have total peace about it.

Changes! Changes! Changes!
on November 28, 2007 11:14 am
Lots of changes this month and lots more to come!  I have lost 31 pounds so far and am feeling great so I can only imagine what it will feel like to drop about 100 more!  I had my offical last day at my job of almost 12 years.  They are like a part of my family and I am finding it difficult to seperate myself.  I went to Atlanta for a week for the new job.  It did not seem like work at all.  I left a husband and four kids at home so it felt more like a break!  I enjoyed myself and was able to network with lots of people from all over the southern region.  I love my new job and much like my old job, the holidays are a very busy time for us.  I am so thankful that God has given me the opportunity to serve in this ministry.  I know it is not always going to be fun or easy but I know God's got my back!  I have a major inventory to complete and I want to get it done prior to my surgery so I know the next month is going to be insanley busy.  I have my labs scheduled for mid December, my Psyc. appt. for Dec. 26 and my appointment with the surgeon on December 27th.  I am so excited!  I am hoping for an early Jan. surgery date but I know that is pushing it.

My Story

I am 36 years old, married to a wonderful man for 15 years, and we have 4 children.  We have 3 boys, ages 14, 3, and 10 months.  We have one princess, age 12.  My husband is retired from the NAVY and works as a warehouse manager.  I work as an accounting clerk.  We are pretty involved at our church.  Between the kids, work, and church we are always busy.  We love to hang out at the pool and the beach, work in the yard, or if it is cold out, lay around and watch movies.  I recently lost my best friend to cancer.  We both talked about having WLS but 7 years ago she got sick with colon cancer and I still wanted more babies, so at that point, it was just a dream.  Two babies later and now she has passed, so I decided it was time to make it happen.  The last straw was a few months ago when we were at Mt. Trashmore with the kids, flying kites.  I walked up to the top and I thought I was going to die!  I told my husband on the way home that I refuse to be the mother who justs sits on the bench and watches the kids play because I am too big to do anything else.  My kids have lots of running and playing years left and I want to be right beside them.  I am pretty active so I could never understand why I have such a hard time losing weight.  I have tried soooo many diets, pills, Curves, nothing seems to work for long. I know I need to take the exercise up a notch because my body is so used to what I do.  When I got pregnant with the last baby, I was about 255. I lost weight the entire time.  Doc said it was ok since the baby was growing and I was overweight to begin with.  When I went in for my 6 week check up, I was down to 214!  I could not believe it.  Since then, I have gained all the way up to 274.  I am currently 270 and trying real hard to lose some on my own.  Hubby and I have been walking.  I have a friend at work who I walk with a few days a week.  He is doing high protein/low carbs and he has lost about 80 lbs.  So he has been helping me with my food choices.  I feel like I have dropped a few more pounds.  I go to see my PCM next week, so we will see. I have not told too many people about the WLS because I just do not want to hear their two cents worth.  I am so ready for the change in my life.  My husband loves me the way I am, but he is happy that I have a chance to be healthier.  I talk to him all the time about the surgery, I want him to be as comfortable as me about it.  We are going to take this journey together.
