Gosh I am at a lose for words...that never happens :) I guess I should start by letting you all know who I am?  My name is Karilyn but my friends call me Kari.  I am a working mommy to three young children ages 4, 6 and 8. I am 32 years old.  I am married to a wonderful man going on 10 years now!  I struggle with my weight and have for over 16+ years.  I have tried all the fad diets out there with no success.  I want to have surgery as it is the only way I will be able to shed the pounds.  I currently weigh in at 290+lbs and am 5ft 4in. tall.  I am looking for advice on the bariatric procedure.  I currently have a BMI of 49.8, though only recently has my blood pressure started to be elevated. I have been diagnosed as diabetes. My A1C is 10.2.  My labs look pretty bad I have hi-triglycerides (high bad cholesterol and low good cholesterol) maybe that is why I have heart palpitations?  But other then all that I seem to be in okay health. :)

Down 3.6 LBS!!
on December 31, 2010 3:36 pm
Well I am giving this another try. I want to see if I can lose the weight with just the support of my family and all of you guys on here before I pay out of pocket to get an RNY. I tried the Vegan way of life and I plan on sticking with it. It was really hard and I did cheat several times but am hoping that as time goes on it will get easier. I had a Dr. appointment today and I am now down 4 pounds from last month. Slower weight lose then I would like but heck it is 3.6 lbs gone!

Vegan Diet

Eating a Vegan diet is so hard!! Almost all foods I like have dairy or eggs in them. This is going to be a challenge.

Dr. visit & test results
on December 11, 2010 7:01 pm
Well a couple of days ago I had a Dr. appointment and it did not go well. I knew it wouldn't, Since my medical changed I let my health go. I found myself going back to my old ways of eating. My fasting blood sugar was 297. My cholesterol was 264. My triglycerides were 747 and my current weight was 290. All of this effected my kidney function, which was lower then it should be. I was prescribed 40mg Pravachol, 600 mg Gemfibrozil twice a day and 2 Glucophage XR 500mg tablets twice a day. I am actually going to try and write in my blog once a day or at least a few times a week since this is what helped me last time I was on track. It helps me be accountable and that is a huge key to success.

I am looking for advice on the Kaiser procedure. I have heard they don't like to okay the bariatric surgery very often. I do meet the BMI requirement, though only recently has my blood pressure started to be elevated. I have been diagnosed as pre diabetic with an A1C of 6.6. I do have asthma and have had knee and back problems for some time. I had an ACL replacement in the past. My labs look okay but I do have hi triglycerides (high bad cholesterol and low good cholesterol) as well as low potassium (It was only 3.3 and apparently 3.5 is normal so not too low) maybe that is why I have heart palpitations? But other then all that I seem to be in okay health. :)
