I am a 32 yr old BBW who is looking to have bariatric surgery.   I work in Houston in the medical field and have been over weight since puberty.  I have a condition called PCOS which effects so many different things and I am looking forward to getting my weight off.   My endocrinologist told me years ago when I finished having kids that I should consider some type of surgery to reduce my weight becuase of the risk factors PCOS causes.  I want to live to see my 2 precious kids grow up and grow old with my husband, seeing our grandkids born and be an active part of their lives as well.   I look forward to my adventure and by gaining any knowledge that anyone can give!!!!!

6 months out
on June 11, 2008 8:54 am
Well yesterday was my 6 month surgiversary!!   I am down a total of 92 lbs and down a total of 40.36 inches.  That is amazing in my book.   1 foot, can you believe that, 12 inches, alone in my hips.  I am now a foot taller than I am around.....major accomplishment for me.   It's hard to believe that if I were trying to get approved for surgery now, I would BARELY and I mean just barely fit the criteria to be approved since my BMI is 40.3.   I still have a ways to go but I'm getting closer and closer every day.    I started this journey out with a BMI of 54.9 so going down that much in BMI alone is a major accomplishment.  I am amazed at the energy I have now, the inspiration I've been to other people and the way my life has changed in a positive way.   I started in 30/32's and am now down to a 22/24.......I have pulled out clothes that I wore on my honeymoon....and lingerie...hubby is happy about that. LOL   Of course that much weight and 2 kids later, they don't look quite as flattering in my opinion, but as long as my hubby doesn't care....I dont' mind either. I need to update some pictures and get some new ones out there so everyone can see where I am now size wise and see the weight loss in my face.   I have my 6 month follow up appointment today so I'm anxious to get my lab results to make sure all is well there, but I am optimistic that everything is good.

Thanks to everyone for their inspirational words and words of encouragement.   This has truly been a beauitful ride, one I wouldn't trade for anything.   I wonder where I'll be in 6 more months????  Only time will tell!!!!

4 monts out
on April 18, 2008 6:19 pm
Well I'm out 4 months now from surgery and down a total of 81 lbs.   I've lost 20 in the past month but the fact that I had a stomach virus or the flu (not sure which) helped add to that weight loss for the month.    I can definetely say I didn't hit my quota on protein which is appearant with my hair loss.   I have had a rough time lately dealing with a lot of emotional issues, not related to eating, but just having had so many things happen in 6 yrs consistently every 6 months......so the Doctor said now that I don't have any more hurdles to make it through to get by, so she put me on Lexapro to help me get through some anxiety issues that I'm having.  So I've been on it for 2 days so of course I haven't seen any changes yet.   My husband was at the appointment with me and he agreed he thought I needed something becasuse of all the changes I'm going through professionally and physicialy with the weight loss change.  Other than that, everything is going great.

3 month surgiversary....
on March 10, 2008 6:20 am
Well today is my 3 month surgiversary.   I'm going to do my measurements tonight but....did a little last night and I have lost a considerable amount in my legs.  I have lost a total of 64 pounds so this past month has been a lot slower loss, but I still LOST.    I had some issues this month with chronic constipation and had some test done to prove that's what it was since I was in a lot of pain in my lower abdomen.   But now I'm doing daily benefiber in my drinks to help add fiber.   I saw Dr Sherman on Friday and he is pleased with my results (weight loss and lab results) and said that my weight loss would probably slow down some now since that 3 month mark has hit so I reallly have to up the exercise and up the water in take, which is something I needed to do anyway.    I am dealing with a lot of skin rashes because of extra skin so I just recently purchased some Spanx to try and help with that.   Boy did my husband and I have a good laugh trying to pour me in to that yesterday morning before church.   I'm making sure my internist doucments all that so when the time comes for Plastics down the road I'll have documentation of the skin rashes and infections.

It feels so good now because I have people that have no idea that I had the surgery are really noticing my weight loss and telling me that they can tell I've lost a lot.   I've been very fortunate that everyone has been so supportive of me and my surgery.  I haven't had really any one say anything negative about it.  Maybe one person and she is also a very heavy person and said when her doctor suggested weight loss surgery to her she wasn't interested.  I'm hoping I can show her the positive outcomes that can happen with it so she may eventually be motiviated to do it (if it's the right decision for her).

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to check out my profile and read my little blobs of information. :)    If anyone ever has any questions please feel free to ask. :)   I'm here to help!

Down 58 lbs
on February 26, 2008 12:57 pm
Well it's hard to believe it's been  2 1/2 months since my surgery.  I'm down a total of 58 lbs since my pre-op diet and am feeling really good.  My hair has thinned some I can tell but I'm down to 22/24 clothes from a tight 30/32.  My 26/28 and 30/32 clothes still fit, they're just really big and baggy.  Life is so good.  One of my co-workers is having the RNY today, she was scheduled for this morning so I'm excited for her and her journey that is about to begin.   Now I can see that it is possible to lose the weight...before I always felt hopeless......but I can actually see a light at th eend of the tunnel.  I don't know what i"ll do about all the loose skin.....but I know Plastics will be in my future.

3 1/2 weeks out
on January 4, 2008 1:32 pm
Well I had my surgery on December 10th and was home on December 12th.   This surgery was a breeze post operatively as far as incision pain and discomfort go compared to my c-sections.   6 little tiny incisions all healing wonderfully.   I had to do the 2 week pre - op liquid diet (slim fast or Carnation Instant Breakfast) and lost 11 lbs then.   Since the day of surgery I lost a total of 23 lbs until I hit the dreaded stall exactly 2 weeks out from surgery.  Finally today (a week and a half later) I saw a movement on the scale of 1/2 a lb.   So I'm hoping I'm over my stall now.   I did do a bad thing this week, I was craving chicken so bad so I ordered some chicken wings from Domino's Pizza and ordered the kids and my hubby pizza.  Well about 30 mins after eating I dumped, or at least I"m pretty sure it was dumping from the fat content.  I honestly thought they baked those wings but I am now convinced they must fry them and then when they deliver them they prepare them with whatever spices.   Oh I was so sick, never threw up but I was wishing I would and for me to say that.......I was hurting since I am one to pray to not throw up when I have a stomach virus.   I was still nauseated the next morning.

I am so thankful for my surgery.    I know I could have never done this and been successful in getting this much weight off without the surgery.

Happy New Years to everyone!

My Story

I have a consult with Dr. Sherman on Friday to see what surgical procedure he recommends.  My PCP wants me to do the Roux En Y since she said if I'm going to "bite the bullet" I might as well go all the way and in some ways I agree but I am a little nervous about the bypass surgery.  The lap band I feel some what secure with but the long term effects with it concern me more than the bypass, so I am looking forward to seeing Dr. Sherman to get some answers.

I am married to a wonderful man and have two beauitful children.  A son who is 3 1/2 yrs old and a Daughter that is 9 1/2 months old.   I want to be a shining example to them as they grow that you can do anything and that Mommy will be able to do things with them that currently I am not able too.  I have never let my weight limit my activities but I have noticed lately I am a little more hesitant to get in the floor and play or get out and play kick ball, etc. with my son.   My son has a mild case of Cerebal palsy so I want to show him that he can do anything......and be a shining example.

Anyway...I have probably stated the same things over and over again but I just am ready to get the whole process started.  I have to do a 6 month medically supervised weight loss program for my insurance so I started Weight Watchers last week for that purpose and try to get my weight down below where it is.  I am currently 344 lbs (heighest weight is 349 though) and have no unrealistic goals on where I want to end up at other than feeling healthy and comfortable in my own body.  If I could get down to a size 14 I would be so happy, that would be much better than the 30/32 I'm in now.

I will write more after my appointment on Friday!!!  Wish me luck!!!  My husband and mother are both going with me so that we're all 3 on the same page as far as the surgery.

Thanks for reading!
Wendy
