Surgeon Testimonial

Dominick Artuso, M.D.
I first met Dr. Artuso about a year ago. He had done my cousin's bypass 6 years ago and she told me how wonderful he is. When I met him I knew he was the doctor for me. As I started the process for insurance approval his staff was right there for me. Explaining and helping every step of the way. I have nothing but good things to say about his staff, they're the best! After surgery I had a small anesthesia complication but Dr. Artuso was all over it. He came to see me everyday to make sure I was okay. He has a great bedside manner and you can tell he truly cares for his patients. He ended up keeping me in the hospital for an extra day and sending me home on Easter. Dr. Artuso came in early Easter morning to make sure I was released so I could be home with my 2 little boys and the rest of my family for Easter. I highly recommend Dr. Artuso not only for his surgical skills but for his caring bedside manner and for truly being there for his patients. Thank you Dr. Artuso for everything you have done for me!

6/23 - Hello Summer and size 14/16!!
on June 23, 2008 7:06 pm
It's been a while because I've been so busy. The last day of school was 6/13 and I've been on the go since then. I hit another stall for a little more than a week but I've started losing again.  I'm down to 206 and feel great. I have 7 more pounds to lose to reach my goal of the ones before my cruise at the end of July. It's going to happen, I know it!!
So I had a couple of  Wow moments this past weekend. We picked up our cruise documents and then took the kids to see Kung Fu Panda. Very good movie by the way. Well I sat in the theater chair and I had room!!!! Yes, I had room in the chair.......on both sides! And when I got up, I didn't feel like the chair was coming with me.  After the movie my husband suggested going shopping for some clothes for me for the cruise. So we did. I actually went to NY & Co. and fit into 16's.......WOW!! I also got into some 14/16s in Lane Bryant...soon enough I'm hoping that I won't need to hit that store anymore. I ended up getting some nice capris and tops and 2 dresses and they all look great.
I also picked up spanx and they are definitely worth every penny. They're amazing.
I can now say that I'm starting to notice a difference in myself. The baggy clothes didn't help me see it I think.
I'm feeling so much better health wise. My back and knees aren't hurting and I have so much more energy. I'm so happy right now with everything.

6/8 - 50 lbs. Gone!!!!
on June 8, 2008 5:54 pm
Well, since my last visit to Dr. A's last week I have lost 8 more lbs. (That's according to my scale) So I have hit the 50 lbs loss mark and I feel great. I've had more energy than ever and can't wait to get the summer rolling with the boys. I actually sat out yesterday in the heat and went on the trampoline. Who would've thunk it???
I'm posting new pictures tonight, so take a peek.
It's also the last week of school here so I'm going to be one busy Mom. Michael graduated from preschool on Friday and he can't wait for Kindergarten to start.
So many people are now noticing my weightloss and it feels great. It's just still hard for me to see it.
Thanks for all the support. Only 11 lbs. away from the ones!! WOOHOO!!

6/2 - What the..............???
on June 2, 2008 9:02 pm
Went to see the surgeon on Thursday and was not looking forward to it. I'd been on a stall for about 3 weeks....yet again. So I get there and hop on the scale and it shows a GAIN of 2 lbs......what????? According to my own scale, I lost 4. What the..........??  Joanne then tells me that she's had problems with the scale all day. Mind you the scale is old and moved around. If you remember in my last post I had questioned this particular scale. Needless to say I was not a happy camper.  In the end, it was decided that I follow my own scale which I believe is very acurate. It's very frustrating to expect one thing and get another.

After all that, there is light at the end of the tunnel, since Thursday I have lost 4 more lbs. (according to my scale) So that is what I'm going by!

On another note, more and more people are noticing a difference in me. I'm getting compliments all the time. It's just hard because I really don't see it. I know, I'm like a broken record.

Still feeling great. No issues with dumping or getting anything stuck. My energy is back to normal and I'm so happy with everything (except that scale). I'm getting my water in and trying hard to get all that protein in.

So here's what everything looks like at this point.

Starting weight - 269
Day of surgery - 260
Presently - 214
Mini Goal - 199
Goal weight - 145

Only 15 lbs to go for my mini goal and I want to hit it before my cruise in mid July. I think I can, I think I can........no, I know I can!!

5/17 - So Much Fun!
on May 17, 2008 8:03 pm
Well, we returned home today from the Great Wolf Lodge here in the Poconos and it was a blast. The boys had no idea we were going and were totally surprised. What a great place to visit!
Would I have gone on the waterslides before the surgery??? No way! I'd be too embarrassed. Did I go on them this weekend? Sure did and had a blast. It was so much fun just enjoying myself with my family. It was funny because my husband says he sees a difference in my confidence level and I think he's right. I have to say I wasn't very self aware and didn't focus on my weight. Although I have to say it's still hard to imagine myself thinner.  I really had no problems climbing up all the stairs and plus I had to carry a double tube at the same time. I definitely had an arm and leg workout this weekend. I felt the burn and it felt good.
I went on tons of things with Nicholas & Michael. It was almost like my weight didn't matter. The mental part of this process is very interesting.
We ate out a few times and I think I did really well. Yesterday at dinner I had chicken breast. This morning I had 1/3 of an egg white omelet with cheese and 2 bites of potatoes. For dinner tonight 3/4 of a crab cake. I tried to stick with high proteins for the most part. Now, I have to think when I order my meals and I'm really happy that I'm aware of what I'm putting in my mouth.
So all in all, it was a great trip and now I really can't wait to go on our cruise in July. I can only imagine how much I'm going to lose between now and then.

5/14 - So Busy!
on May 14, 2008 12:37 pm
I know it's been a while since my last update, so here's what's new.
So far so good with everything. I feel great and have had no problems with anything. I'm down to a size 18 but those are getting big now also.
I've been really busy with the boys. They have a ton of things going on with school and little league, so that's what's been occupying my time the last few weeks.
I'm down to 222 lbs. according to my scale and have been at a stand still for about 3 days. I kind of expected another small stall sooner or later. I actually cleaned out some of my closet and ended up bringing them to a local consignment shop. I'm hoping to make a little something from those "tents." LOL
That's about it for now. So far so good!!!
This surgery was the best decision I've ever made.
