Surgeon Testimonial

Dominick Artuso, M.D.
I first met Dr. Artuso about a year ago. He had done my cousin's bypass 6 years ago and she told me how wonderful he is. When I met him I knew he was the doctor for me. As I started the process for insurance approval his staff was right there for me. Explaining and helping every step of the way. I have nothing but good things to say about his staff, they're the best! After surgery I had a small anesthesia complication but Dr. Artuso was all over it. He came to see me everyday to make sure I was okay. He has a great bedside manner and you can tell he truly cares for his patients. He ended up keeping me in the hospital for an extra day and sending me home on Easter. Dr. Artuso came in early Easter morning to make sure I was released so I could be home with my 2 little boys and the rest of my family for Easter. I highly recommend Dr. Artuso not only for his surgical skills but for his caring bedside manner and for truly being there for his patients. Thank you Dr. Artuso for everything you have done for me!

5/17 - So Much Fun!
on May 17, 2008 8:03 pm
Well, we returned home today from the Great Wolf Lodge here in the Poconos and it was a blast. The boys had no idea we were going and were totally surprised. What a great place to visit!
Would I have gone on the waterslides before the surgery??? No way! I'd be too embarrassed. Did I go on them this weekend? Sure did and had a blast. It was so much fun just enjoying myself with my family. It was funny because my husband says he sees a difference in my confidence level and I think he's right. I have to say I wasn't very self aware and didn't focus on my weight. Although I have to say it's still hard to imagine myself thinner.  I really had no problems climbing up all the stairs and plus I had to carry a double tube at the same time. I definitely had an arm and leg workout this weekend. I felt the burn and it felt good.
I went on tons of things with Nicholas & Michael. It was almost like my weight didn't matter. The mental part of this process is very interesting.
We ate out a few times and I think I did really well. Yesterday at dinner I had chicken breast. This morning I had 1/3 of an egg white omelet with cheese and 2 bites of potatoes. For dinner tonight 3/4 of a crab cake. I tried to stick with high proteins for the most part. Now, I have to think when I order my meals and I'm really happy that I'm aware of what I'm putting in my mouth.
So all in all, it was a great trip and now I really can't wait to go on our cruise in July. I can only imagine how much I'm going to lose between now and then.

5/14 - So Busy!
on May 14, 2008 12:37 pm
I know it's been a while since my last update, so here's what's new.
So far so good with everything. I feel great and have had no problems with anything. I'm down to a size 18 but those are getting big now also.
I've been really busy with the boys. They have a ton of things going on with school and little league, so that's what's been occupying my time the last few weeks.
I'm down to 222 lbs. according to my scale and have been at a stand still for about 3 days. I kind of expected another small stall sooner or later. I actually cleaned out some of my closet and ended up bringing them to a local consignment shop. I'm hoping to make a little something from those "tents." LOL
That's about it for now. So far so good!!!
This surgery was the best decision I've ever made.

5/1 - Dr. A today
on May 1, 2008 8:05 pm
So today was my 6 week doctor visit and everything is going great. I have one small problem...when I weighed myself at home today (free of clothing) it was 226 but when I went to the doctor his scale says 220. What do I believe???? Now my son was just at the dr. for a check up and I had him go on my scale and he weighs the same as what his dr. had weighed him at. I guess I'm going to stick with my scale for now. At my last dr. visit the scale was only off by one pound. I don't know......
Dr. A says I'm doing fine and can basically get back to normal. I still have to eat ground foods and I have to see him at the end of the month. So far so good.
Anyway, had a small wow moment this week. I am now 2 sizes smaller and wearing an 18...yay!! I had to buy one pair of jeans yesterday since everything has begun to fall off me. That helped a little with reality for me.
My husband and I have decided to surprise the kids in a couple of weeks with a trip to the Great Wolf Lodge, looking forward to the waterpark. They're going to be shocked.
That's all for now. Time for bed.
