Surgeon Testimonial

Paul J. Guske
Dr.Guske at the Kane Center has been great to me. He was there for me for the last five years, when I first had a Lapband done, until now, to be there for my revision. He is a caring person, who only wants the best for his patients.

My Story

JULY 2007   Hi, my story starts in March 2007, even though I had been thinking about it for 5 years. At the time, the insurance we had wouldn't cover it, and the husband wasn't in favor of it. Now, our insurance will cover it, and my biggest supporter is my husband!

I attended a seminar in Elk Grove Village, Illinois in March. I met with the surgeon, Dr. Guske, acouple of weeks later, and started to get all the clearances. I decided to do the phych evaluation first, not for any reason, just did. No problem there. Then I seen the Cardiac Dr. Big problems.

I have known I had a heart valve problem for years. I was hoping it
wouldn't interfere with me getting this done. Well, I was wrong, in April I went into Alexian Bros. Medical Center for heart valve replacement and bypass. The surgery was to take 5 to 6 hours, then they would keep me sedated for another 5. I was asleep for 5 days. The surgeon, Dr. Stout, told my family that if I had proceeded with the lap-band at that time, I probably
wouldn't had made it  through it. Actually, he said that I definity would of died. So, in the sceme of things, deciding to do the lap-band, saved my life, by forcing me to have the heart problems fixed!

October 2008,
Its been a year sincce surgery. I have llost over 70 lbs, and I am still in love with my band. I have made a lot of new friends here on the boards. I hear all the time how goood I look, and I will admit, it makes me feel good. Heres to the 2nd year of my new life. hopeflly, by 2009, I will of lost the rest and maintaned at my goal.

Takeing things one day at a time. and if I slipup, there is always tomorrow.

November 2010,
It has been 2 years since I have updated. I am syill in love with my band, most of the time. I do have an issue with keeping things down. I will always be grateful for all the friends I have made on this journey, and for a new life. I love to hike in the park near here, go shopping, find new things that I can do, and generally love life.

Fast forward to 03/2013. I am in the process of having a revision done to RNY. I had to have the fluid removed from my band in April of 2012. Nothing was staying down. I still have that issue a few times a week, but I am waiting to change to RNY.
