GPS VS. Me

Aug 30, 2010

8/30
My day got off to a rocky start!  Today was my nutrition/exorcise class in Oakland.  I got up early (6AM) to get my son off to school and myself ready so I could be out of the house by 8:00 so I could get to Oakland with a little time to spare before the class started at 10:00.  Knowing that I tend to get a little lost in the bay area I was sure to pack my faithful GPS.  Since I was ready early I spent some extra time primping in the mirror and decided to run my car through the wash down the street since its pretty dirty.  So I get in the car and head that way and look at the clock... SH&*!!!  Its 9:00 and I'm supposed to be in class at 10:00!  The drive to Oakland usually takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours so I forget the wash and hit the freeway fast.  That's where my old (5 years) GPS comes into play.  It decided to take me the back way to Oakland where its only a two lane freeway and I got stuck behind the little old person that couldn't see over the steering wheel and wanted to go 55mph.  I did finally manage to get around them but for a while there I would have made a sailor blush with the obscenities that flew out of my mouth!  Any way, a very loooooong and very sllllllooooow story short I walked into class at 10:15.  The class was nice and I actually learned some new stuff.  On the way home, while I was lost the 3rd time (my GPS is not up to date with the latest road construction) I found a Target and bought a new GPS that was on sale for $99.00 and actually says the road names (in a voice that sounds like Pierce Bosnian).  After my purchase It was smooth sailing.  When I got home, my husband was waiting for me, anxious to hear about the things that I learned.  He is so wonderful, I love him to death.   He makes a stressful day melt away like magic.

Consultation

Aug 20, 2010

I have my consultation appointment with the bariatric surgeon!  Yay!!!  Its on Sept 1st, less than 2 weeks away!  Before I go and see them Ive got to go to an exorcise class on the 30th which is the Monday after next.  I ordered some protein samples from Unjury last week and they showed up last night.  I had a shake for dinner (chocolate splendor) and one for breakfast (vanilla) and so far they are really good.  I cant believe how sweet they are even though they only have 2g of sugar!  I think Ill have sushi for lunch and try the strawberry protein for dinner.  I know my surgeon is going to want me to drop some weight before surgery so I better start now.  I have no idea if it will work out but Id like to have surgery around the 1st of October.  We will see.  I'm in my sisters wedding October 16th and that should give me enough time to be up and around and able to enjoy myself.

Support group

Aug 19, 2010

8/19
I went to my first support group meeting last night.  I had a bit of trouble finding the place but I made it in time.  There was a nice group of people there.  I thought for sure there would be 3-5 people attending but was pleasantly surprised to find 10.  I went to the meeting because its a requirement before having the surgery but Ill continue going for the people and support.
I'm making the appointment for my surgical consultation today.  I'm so nervous and excited to be getting so close to a surgery date.  I still need insurance approval for the surgery but its just a doctor visit away.  Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Step by Step

Yay! My referral to see the surgeon was approved!  I'm one step closer.  My surgeon is the person that will submit my case to my insurance for surgery approval so I'm almost there!  I'm going to my first support group meeting this Wednesday.  I'm a bit nervous but looking forward to it.  I get so much support and info here on OH I'm not sure what I will get out of it.  Also, if I'm approved for the surgery Ill be the 6th person in my family to have had RNY.  There is enough of us to make our own support group ha ha ha.  Maybe I should start one here in Stockton?  Food for thought, maybe down the road.
On another note, my husband Mark and I bought our son Eric a 56 Mustang for his 16th birthday that's coming up.  Its being delivered today from Sacramento.  I cant wait to see the look on his face!  It needs a little TLC but between his father and myself (were both love working on cars) we'll have it purring like a kitten in no time.  Oh I'm so excited for him.  Life is so goooooood right now.  The sale of the house we are buying is even starting moving along.  We are living the charmed life.  Thank you powers that be!

Almost

Aug 11, 2010

My dreams last night were filled with RNY and the lifestyle changes needed after having the surgery.  I went to the WLS seminar yesterday with my husband and met one of the surgeons of the Oakland practice and talked to some of his former patients.  All of a sudden this is all very real to me.  I'm so excited and soooo nervous.  Ive been doing my preoperative testing and weigh-in's for 6 months now but going to the
Alta Bates Summit Medical Center has just solidified everything for me.  I still have my surgeon consult to go to but his PA said that everything will probably happen for me in the next 2 months because of all of the work Ive already done.  Yay!
