Mistress of Turkey Bondage

Nov 26, 2010

I am the Mistress of Turkey Bondage!  I got the tom thoroughly stuffed, trussed and baked to golden perfection.  No bird has ever come out so moist and delicious.  Being only 2 1/2 weeks out of surgery, it is a bit of a relief to have it all over with but I did just fine.  I had a wonderful time cooking and  visiting with my family.  It was a challenge not to sample as I was cooking but I made my son the official taste tester this year and he seemed to enjoy it.  Getting through Thanksgiving without over indulging was a huge boost to my confidence and I know now that I can make it through any obstacle food related.  Yay me!

2 weeks post op

Nov 22, 2010

Its official!  I'm two weeks post op and still doing great!  I got to move to purees today.  I was a bit scared to try but am handling them just fine.  I never thought Id be timid of food lol.  I had some tuna and I think it was the best thing in the world.  I was amazed at how little filled me.  I took like 4 bites and was FULL.  I think if I had taken one more bite I would have regretted it.  Wednesday is my follow up with my Dr and I'm anxious to hear what he says.  I'm also curious how much weight I have lost.  I haven't been on a scale since Ive been post op but notice my cloths are a bit loose.  Another couple of weeks and I may have to break down and at least buy a new bra lol.  Why is it the first place you lose weight is your boobs?  Its not fair lol.  Any way, I'm making the boys dinner tonight so Id better get on that.

Sick of Fluids!

Nov 17, 2010

Oh my goodness, I am so sick of fluids!  I know I need to be on them to give my stomach a chance to heal but if I see one more thing of chicken broth... *deep breath*  LOL!  Any way, I'm doing great!  Next week is my 2 week check up and Ill be able to go to pureed food.  I think Ill make it.
I took off my steri-strips today and my incisions look just fine.  I doubt Ill even scar.  So far everything has been so text book and for that I am sooo grateful.  I think Ive finally hit that energy wall everyone talks about.  I'm soooo tired.  I get up and do some shopping and when I get home I'm wiped and don't even want to think about fixing the boys dinner.  They have been in take-out heaven,  He he he.

Meds Glorious Meds!

Nov 10, 2010

Ok, my husband picked up my meds from the pharmacy and life is good again.  I'm taking some liquid hydrocodone for pain (of which there is little) and Nexium to help my stomach stay settled when I eat.  So far I haven't had any problems with getting liquids down.  I just finished a few ounces of a protein drink and am feeling much better.  I guess I was more hungry than I thought.  I'm surprised how much fluid I'm able to swallow at once.  A normal sip is good but I don't dare try and gulp.  The last thing I want to do today is puke.  I imagine it would hurt my stitches badly.  Any way, I'm going to go on a walk around the block.  Maybe Ill post something when I get back.

Rough night

Nov 09, 2010

I had a bit of a rough night because the lack of meds and I'm feeling a little puny,  My husband just left to pick up my prescriptions and I'm sure Ill be feeling much better once I take them.  On the bright side, I'm having little discomfort from all of the gas you hear people talk about.  I do have one cramp that wont seem to go away under my right shoulder blade but I don't know if its gas or if I slept funny.
Its going to be interesting to learn how to listen to my new stomach.  Its been gurgling and making all sorts of interesting noises.  I don't feel hungry but I know I need to get my fluids in so Ive been sipping.  Ive been doing a lot of walking to.  I think once I get my meds in, Ill try one of my protein shakes.  I had a sip of my husbands this morning and it tasted sooo good.  Any way, I'm going to go take it easy on the couch and hopefully get a little sleep.

Home and post-op!

Nov 09, 2010

Well I just got home from the hospital and am feeling good.  The surgery (RnY) was my first surgery and thought it would be way worse.  My pharmacy has closed for the night so no more pain meds until I can get my script filled out in the AM.  I'm not in much pain at all, it feels more like Ive done a million sit ups.  A little achy and crampy but that's the worst of it.  Ill post more when I'm feeling more up to it.  Ive got to do some walking and then get into bed.  I'm so sleepy.
 Taken this morning.

Tomorrows the big day

Nov 07, 2010

I'm feeling very zen today.  I have nervous moments here and there but when I take a deep breath I'm able to relax.  I'm sure all will go well tomorrow, Ive got complete faith in my surgeons capabilities and I know without a doubt that the powers that be will be watching over me.
I spent the morning with my boys at out new house and when they started ripping out kitchen cabinets I went to our old place (which we still live in) to drink my Magnesium Citrate.  Well... if I never have to do that again it would be just fine and dandy!!!  Ive never spent so much time in the bathroom!  For those of you that have had to take it, you know exactly what I mean.
I'm all packed for the hospital in the morning and even have my cloths put out.  I'm going to do my best to get a full nights sleep so I'm in better shape to recover.  Ill get up in the AM, do some yoga, kiss my son and head on over to the hospital with my husband.
Ive got some laundry to finish up so I'm off.  Hopefully the next time I blog, Ill be on the losers bench.  Wish me luck :)

Whirlwind

Nov 06, 2010

Oh what a whirlwind of a week!  The old adage "When it rains it pours" is no exaggeration for me.  Thursday my husband and I got our keys to our 1st home, Saturday (today) is my birthday with many a festivity planned and Monday is my surgery!  Very stressful - good stress but stress none the less.  He he "stress none the less"- I'm a poet and didn't even know it.  I'm anxious to be on the road to recovery.
OK, I'm off to go get a pedicure.
