My Story

I am a 37 year old single mother of one daughter. I have battled with my weight for almost 15 years now. The increase in my weight really didn't bother me at first, but as time as gone on I have developed diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea. I was having alot of problems with my knee's and was in alot of joint pain. It was time to do something. I have gone on every diet there is, and never lost more than 30 pounds on any of them. At this point I decided to look into bariatric surgery.

I started my wls journey in Jan of 2008, with all of the requirements of my  insurance company I did not have my surgery until Dec 30, 2008. The process took so long I wanted to change my mind, but I stuck with it and it finally happened.

I did not tell many people that I was having the surgery for fear of the reaction they would have, but those that I did tell were for the most part supportive although there are still members of my family who don't know. I often found myself having to explain in detail why I was doing this. The first thing they would say to me is "you are not that big why are you doing that" but at 5ft 6in tall and 246 pounds I was THAT BIG! I have gotten to a point that I only talk about my surgery with people who understand why I did it. I don't try to convince those who are not openminded enough to try to understand.
