Surgeon Testimonial

Keith Kim, M.D.
My first impression of Dr. Kim was one of amazement. He wanted his staff to take all the prop's and compliments. He was just the one running the computer. His staff was dynomite and the program is top notch!

He stresses the after care and works to keep you motivated. You have all the resources that his office has, at your finger tips. He explained the risks of the surgery in great detail and it made me feel comfortable with the doctor I chose.

I would give him a rating of 8 so far only because I haven't seen him for the follow up appointment yet but I expect that to go as great as the pre-op and day of surgery did. He is really a great doctor and one that I would recommend to anyone.

Good luck! I know walking probably drove you crazy but you will be fine. By day 5, you will be motivated to do some shopping.

Insurance Advisor Contact
on November 27, 2009 3:54 am
Good morning gang.  I hope each of you had a Thanksgiving full of blessings & happiness!  Just wanted to update on my status.  I got a call from the Insurance Advisor from Dr. Kim's office.  I have to have a 6 month doctor monitored weight loss program and come up with $1100 in total for the surgery.  I actually already have a 6 month doctors monitored weight loss under my belt but I am considering going ahead and doing another 6 months so it will give me time to save up what I have to come up with out of pocket.  I only draw disability so to come up with it right away is impossible for me.  I don't look at this as a set back, just an chance to get what I need.  If this changes I will make sure to update.  I hope each of you has a splendid day!

Ok, My First Hurdle On My Journey
on November 24, 2009 3:19 am

Was yesterday a "typical" Monday or what?!?  It seemed like what could go wrong, did and what could go right decided to go left....haha!  Ugh!  By then end of the day I was so ready to go throw myself into bed and forget about it, but here I am so that has to be a good sign.

I got a call from my the insurance advisor from Dr. Kim's Office.  I have to pay out of pocket $1100.  I know that isn't much for some that has to pay the whole bill but I am on disability & don't draw that a month.  She said that Medicare doesn't pay until after I have the surgery and because that is my primary Medicade is my secondary, it is what I have to come up with.  I have to pay $500 for the psych part of it by the day I have all my pre-req's done.  Then I have to have $600 the day of the pre-op visit.

I don't care what I have to give up at this point but I am going to make this happen.  My weight and and health has given me no choice.  I can either lie down and take this as another weight battle lost or I can move forward.  I am MOVING FORWARD!  I refuse to give up!  If I do, then I might as well go ahead and pick out my grave site because that is where I am headed if I don't get control over my weight so I can gain control over my diabetis, cholesterol & all the other goodies that goes along with being obese.

I know this won't be the only hurdle I have to clear on this journey, I have no disillusion of that whatsoever.  I am sure I will be back here more than I'd like to imagine, complaining on one thing or the other but that part of what OH is for, right?  Haha!  Ok enough of my complaining.

Going From Cooking To Feed An Army To Cooking For...
on November 17, 2009 12:48 pm

I am as old as the hills and have no idea how to go from cooking for an army to cooking for two!  Ugh, nothing I am cooking now seems to taste right because my measurments are off by about 10 yards.  I never measured anything before.  I just knew how much salt, pepper, garlic, etc to season a meal with and now as I am learning portion control and cooking what would be considered a normal meal, I am over seasoning EVERYTHING!  Guess I need to learn to start small, taste as it goes instead of depending on my old bad habits...haha!  That being said....

I am sooo nervous, excited and all the adjectives I can think of about my information session tomorrow.  Yay, another hurdle down!  I have so many questions and can't wait to hear everything the doctor has to say about bariatric surgery.  Ok enough blabbering for today.   Everyone have a super day!

Pulmonary Doctor's Approach To Clearance
on November 14, 2009 5:41 am

Just an update on my pulmonary doctor's visit.  He has required me to go through another PFT test and get another sleep study done before he will clear me for the surgery.  Kinda irritating but I am down with anyone that wants to make sure that all the precautions are concurant with my needs.  So my sleep test will be done on December 1st and sometime between now and then I will take my PFT test.

I have suffered some severe lower extremity swelling.  Probably due to my weight enlarging my heart but it's the pits.  It causes pain and I find it hard to walk.  I've taken Lasix to help rid me of the excess water but it doesn't seem to be doing so well.  I don't know, maybe I'll make a trip to the ER just to have them check it out.

This coming Wed is my information session and I am so excited about it.  I am sure that I am going to get the RNY surgery.  I know that recovery takes a while and given that I am older it may take even longer but I am willing to go through with whatever it is to get my health back.

I spent a few days at my friends place recently and started out feeling great but by yesterday I couldn't stay until my planned departure time because I felt so bad.  But, it was nice to get out there and work with a foal again.  You know the old saying if you don't use it you loose it, IT'S TRUE!  I have to learn ground work techniques again and get over the fear of getting kicked...lol!  The point, I moved more the past 3 days than I have in 9 months.  It was great!  I was wore out in a short amount of time but that's ok.  I am ok with small steps and working my way back up.

Ok, enough of my rambling.  I wish everyone has a super sized weekend full of laughter & blessings!!!
