Surgeon Testimonial

David Suh, M.D.
Dr. Suh performed my RNY gastric bypass in April 2008. I am almost 4 years post op. Would I do it again? Yes, only with Dr. Suh as my surgeon! I have gone from 242 preop and am easily maintaining 140 by keeping up with high protein daily. Zero complications and zero regrets.

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
I have been heavy all of my life. Both my mother, my aunt and grandmother battled their weight. I see signs of obesity in my 10 year old daughter. WLS has changed my life and I hope to prevent my daughter from needing WLS to control her eating habits and maintain her health.

4 Months post op update
on August 17, 2008 1:43 pm
Down to 180!  I realized that my hair was thinning last month. Its full on falling out this months. Noone has noticed or commented but when I wash my face at night I really notice it at my temples.  Theres hair all over  the shower and the bathroom counter and floor.  I have been doing at least 60 grams of protein shakes a day and most days get about 80-100 grams of protein. Rarely get that hungry feeling. Still have not vomited.   Need to start walking but its been sooo stinking hot. Have been swimming and exercising in the pool. School started last week so I am back to work. I have had so many compliments from staff and students on my weight loss. Whoo Hooo!  The best thing is I am cleaning out my closet and freecycling the stuff thats too big.  I have gotten so many "new" clothes from Freecycle. Its been great as I have been dropping sizes about one a month.  I was so afraid that I was losing slower than others with mid April surgery dates but it seems that Lynette (my surgery buddy) and I are right there with everyone else now. Guess they slowed down and we are losing steadily still and have caught up. Down to a size 14 and even some of those are getting really big.   Ate off plan for the first time in four months yesterday. Had a small piece of pizza like a two by four inch slice. Didnt eat the thick edge of the crust. Just the soft middle part. Waited and wondered if I would vomit or dump. I've had  lunch meats, sausage, pepperoni and cheese lots of times before but havent had bread and didnt know how I would do with the crust.  Chewed like crazy.  Did fine. Not going to make it a habit! Just wanted to test the waters and see how I would do with bread. Back on track and back to protein, protein, protein.

Food. What works and doesnt work for me
on August 10, 2008 3:53 pm
Eggsssss are the devil. Feels like rocks in the pouch. Tried them three times and wont try them again. Sucks because I used to love omelets. Juice. Lived on 100% juice the first two weeks. Was so tired of it I havent had it in months. Tried the exact same juice and had the craps for an entire day.  Stupid tried it again a few days later. Still no luck. Just discovered yesterday that the Strawberry Walmart brand Crystal Light type of drink gives me the craps.  I can drink every other flavor but not this one. Tried it three times with the same results.  Guess if I am ever constipated I know to try the juice and strawberry drink mix first! I can do chicken and beef just fine. Tried a bite or two of pasta and was fine but know its not the best food choice so I stay away from it.   Have done low carb tortillas with wraps of cheese and lunch meat with no problem.  I made the mistake of doubling a no sugar added Carnation instant breakfast early out thinking it would double my protein but forgot to double the carbs. Gave me the craps really bad.  So I am guessing my carb limit is about 20 but havent tested the limits by going over that. I switched to Syntrax Nectar protein right after than and love  it. Its my food of choice when I stand in the pantry as I now have four flavors and a ton of samples of other protein well stocked.  I am a lazy and lousy cook so when I am in doubt of what to eat I will drink! Protein that is.

I have to note that I have not vomited--not even once.  Whooo Hooo!  Scared to death to puke! I had the foamies (I think) about three times after not chewing well but I really just coughed and felt like there was foam in my throat but that was it. I can drink fluid really well and can easily get 4 gulps down. Will get up the nerve to try 5 gulps this week. We are headed to the Nascar race in a few weeks and I need to be able to get lots of fluids in as I expect it to be about 103 degree as in past races there.

Bruises
on August 9, 2008 5:31 pm
I scratch my legs and get bruises.  Got them on my arms and knees from unknown causes. Had blood drawn in June and everything was good. Nothing really low or out of range. Just had my blood drawn again yesterday. What a disaster. They poked 4 times to get it in my right arm got 4 vials and the vein stopped releasing blood. Switched arms, two sticks later they got it and drew 3 more vials. I have hugh bruises on both arms. My right arm has a hard knot under the bruise. Discovered the knot about a half hour ago and just put ice on it. (Literally typing with an ice bag on my arm.)  I take my vitamins and get well over 80 grams of protein a day and most days get close to 100 grams. WTF is up????? Panic has set in!!!  Cruising the boards looking for answers.

Uploaded my preop and post op pics. Just found the disc they were on. Need to upload current pics.
