Finally on the other side of surgery
on January 30, 2009 2:31 pm
I started toward bariatric surgery in 2005.  Got sidelined when I had to have a hysterectomy.  I had one rejection from my insurance company at that time, they were demanding 6 months of doctor supervised diet and exercise.  Well I guess if you go to the doctor enough you will get sick!  Doctors found an 11 inch cyst on my left ovary which was causing me a lot of back pain, IBS symptoms and just generally made me sick.  So after an open hysterectomy, my surgeon told me to hold off at least 18 months before having another surgery.

So in 2008, I started the ball rolling again, but now lap band has come a long way since I was first considering RNY in 2005.

The rest of the story is that I'd gotten fired from my job.  My back was killing me.  I realized that I was depressed and 100% sick of being fat.  So I got on the computer and started the ball rolling again in July 2008.  It took all summer and fall to get all the approvals and evaluations completed.  It was a comedy of errors from the psychologist who just would not finish my evaluation to the insurance company that insisted I was subject to pre-existing conditions even though I was not.  So many fights, but I never gave up.  I had decided that I was going to get rid of this weight and I would not be stopped.  I've been overweight since I was 6 -- that's long enough.

This surgery has absolutely enpowered me.  I know I don't have restriction yet, but still it's like "Why would I go through all this pain and work to not follow the plan?"  So I'm eating several small meals a day making sure it's healthy, nutritionally rich food, working out every day at the Y and looking forward to being rid of all this extra baggage.

Well, just wanted to throw some blog in here and so here it is.  I'm almost three weeks post-op and feeling good.
