Dr Oh literally saved my life in Feb 02. I was malnourished, and literally dying due to an atonic pouch. With his amazing skills, he reconstructed my pouch and gave me a quality of life I hadnt enjoyed since having wls.. Thank you Dr Oh for giving me a life worth living.

Well, guys, looks like my 4th surgery in less than 3 years. BUt ya know, I am not at all unhappy that I had gastric bypass.. I am over 200 pounds thinner.. and much healthier..I decided long ago to look at each complication that came my way as just another small bump in the road.. and maybe a few weeks setback.. but then my successful journey continues.. and I will achieve that ultimate goal one day of being at my goal weight of 145-150.. Thanks for all the wonderful support you guys have given me the past three and half years.. Hugs,

Stenosis of GE junction
on January 25, 2008 1:26 am
Wow. I had the ph manometry test to rule out esophageal spasms on Tuesday. The test was , we think, essentially normal. However, it did confirm what the EGD showed a few weeks ago.. a narrowing or stenosis at the GE junction. I am a rare breed.. getting a stricture at 7 years post op.. I have a follow up appt with my GI guy in mid Feb, and will discuss the results of the EGD and ph manometry test with him at that time.
Life is still good, and I know it can only get better with time . I am doing much better with my protein intake, and water consumption.. I had gotten a bit slack for awhile.
Well, it is late, and I need to get to bed tonight.
I hope , if you are reading my blog, that you are well and happy.
Until the next time.. ........

What an amazing past few months.....
on January 14, 2008 12:00 am
Life is so sweet!!! In my last post, I was still a bit upset over my cardiac tests being abnormal, but God is so good.. I had a normal heart cath in late Nov, and my heart is good and strong., and most importantly, healthy. I did give my family a scare when I started bleeding after the heart cath from my artery and had to be rushed back to the ER by ambulance, but that was just precaution.

I had an amazing holiday season, not without some stress, but nothing that couldn't be dealt with. I have learned that if God brings it to me, He is gonna get me through it.!!!

My great grandson is getting so big, I just wish I could see him more often.. but I do treasure the short visits I have with him. My great granddaughter is growing by leaps and bounds, and will be walking before I know it.. My precious little mini me, my only grandchild, is just adorable and growing up so fast.. she was 5 just before Christmas.

Well, it is 2008, and I , for one, am determined that this year, I am going to get on a routine that involves regular exercise, and me getting back to basics and getting my health back.

I am getting more involved in my church and the activities that are offered, and I am hoping to also include some type educational training in the coming year.

My local weight loss support group seems to be growing, although my meetings are still small in membership. I am always happy to see the newer members each time they are able to attend, and I see their progress, and their excitement over their success.

I also look forward to meeting the new members, getting to know them better, answering their questions and being there for each and every one of them.

Life is good.. I believe that God has a mission for me and I know that I am going to find just where I am supposed to be and what I am supposed to be doing to serve him and exalt him the most this year.

Well, off to bed, it is getting late, and I have to do some errands in the morning.
Take care and remember, you are never alone.. even in your darkest moments.
Psalms 23

Peachy hugs,
Gina

My upsetting echocardiogram news
on November 6, 2007 9:18 pm
Last week, I recieved some pretty upsetting news.. my routine echocardiogram was abnormal. It seems that the left lateral wall of my heart doesn't pump blood efficiently.
WLS is great, and you do gain back some health, but even after you lose your weight, you can still regain some health issues that are totally non related to weight.
I have been pretty fatigued for several weeks, and have been pretty limited in what I can do. I think what I have missed the most is going to church.. I havent been up to going physically when I have been in town.. only been to church twice since the end of Sept.. and only went to church a few times in Sept.. I was able to go to church on Sunday, Oct 7 for my 29th wedding anniversary, and was able to attend church Wed before last. I saw a new post op at church that Wed, we didn't get a chance to talk, but she looked happy and her weight loss is amazing.. I am happy for her.. not jealous at all  as I was accused of being.
Anway, I  am pretty much confined to home and constant rest until we determine what is actually going on with my heart.. so I suppose I am going to be reading lots of books, watching lots of movies, and etc for the next week or so.
I am looking forward to getting to see my new great granddaughter at Thanksgiving again.. she is just adorable.. head full of black hair, and big blue eyes. Logan, my granddaughter, thinks that her cousin, Jaden, is her new sister.  We have tried to convince her that she has a new cousin, but she insists it is a sister-cousin.
I am really proud of Logan as well. She started out in pre k , and after the first 3 weeks of school, she was too advanced and moved to Kindergarten. She got her first report card last week, and I am proud to announce she made all A's and honor roll.
It is hard to believe that she is in school, and about to be 5 next month.. it seems like yesterday that she was born.
Anway, I don't need to keep writing a novel.. so until I know more about my upcoming health tests, I will go quietly for now.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Life is so good!
on October 24, 2007 9:06 am
Last Thursday, I traveled to Atlanta for a plastic surgery consult with Dr Amy Simon.. she is great. She spent most of my 3 hour consult with me, talking to me about my various concerns, about what she thought we needed to focus on, and what the expected outcome would be. Then, I spent an additional amount of time with Frank, her finance manager, going over the fees I would incur if I decide to  have her perform these procedures.
I left her office, and headed over to Northside Hospital where my step grand daughter was in labor with her first child, a girl.. She had been admitted the day before with dangerously high blood pressure, and was being monitored closely. Well, I , along with my daughter, my son in law, my other step grand daughter, my step grandson, their mom, and my step great grandson kept the waiting room busy for many hours.. we read magazines, talked, went down to the  gift shops, got coffee, and visited Laura often. She wasn't able to deliver naturally, but by C section. Jaden made her appearance at 1:29 am on Friday, Oct 19, 2007. She was a healthy 8 pounds 1 oz and 21.5 in long.. She has a head full of black hair, and big blue eyes.
Last night, I went to the support meeting in Stockbridge.. attendance was down, I suppose due to the inclement weather. Even with a small group, we had an amazing time.. and I made some new friends..
I am hoping against all hope that Dr Simon's office can get most, if not all, of the costs for the lbl covered by insurance.. but if not, I have some other means available for financing this surgery  so I am very fortunate in this respect.
I have been to Raleigh twice in the past month, to the Great Smoky Mountains.. what a beautiful place, and to  a beautiful bible park in the Smokies, in Murphy , NC. Also, been on a side trip to Chattanooga, came home for less than a week, and was on my way to Jacksonville to visit daughter, and pick up her old washer/ dryer for our son, and then  of course, last weekend  was spent in Atlanta so we could visit Laura and get to know our new great granddaughter.
LIFE IS SO GOOD!!! I am so happy that I have a full and enriched life with caring people all around me all the time..
Until next time.. oh, and yeah, I am down about 15 pounds in the past month.. yea!!!!
Take care

Anniversary weekend
on October 11, 2007 12:52 pm
This past Sunday was our 29th wedding anniversary.  My hubby made it very special. First of all, we had placed the flowers in the sanctuary in honor of our special day, and my hubby proposed to me again in front of the congregation present Sunday morning by giving me , at least he thought he was giving me  an eternity band, the box he had in the sanctuary happened to be empty, and the band happened to be in the car in the parking lot.. lol. It all turned out in the end. He asked me if he could have another incredible 29 years and of course, I said, yes.
After church, we went out to lunch with my sister and bro in law, and that was also a special time for us. We spent the rest of the afternoon lounging and attended choir practice, went home, got a good night's rest, and started the grind of another week.. a rather busy one I might add..
I had my monthly support meeting on Monday evening.. it was great.. had some new people present and a few old ones.. we talked about emotional eating, and sampled some protein shakes and bars. I gave out some handouts on emotional eating, labs we need to have drawn, and the medications that will hurt our pouches..
The rest of the week has been a very busy one for me with follow up appt with various practitioners that I see.. all is well though.
I am excited over getting my hair a different color on Friday, and more excited about getting a full body massage later today.. I can sure use the massage as I am really  sore and achy from all  the traveling I have been doing lately. The trips have been wonderful but they take a toll on your body. Off to Florida for the weekend.. we are off to pick up the washer/ dryer that my daughter is donating to our son for him, and delivering it to him.. so a short , sweet trip.. then back to the grind again Monday..
Take care.. I hope everyone has a great weekend and a better week.

My Story

Hi,
I am Gina, age 53  now, live in the hot, humid state of Georgia. I had proximal RNY at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA in Dec of 2000. Four months after my original surgery, I was hospitalized again for emergency revision surgery due to a complete staple line disruption, a marginal ulcer that had perforated, spread to the backside of my liver, and caused me to develop peritonitis as a result. I lost weight during these 4 months, although I had a staple line disruption.. weight loss due to the fact that I had constant nausea/ vomiting which we thought was due to the ulcer. I had the surgery in April 2001 and was sent home with unresolved peritonitis, pneumonia, and was so weak that  my sister , a nurse, came and got me, took me home with her and took care of me for the next 5 weeks. She also made a few phone calls to the original surgeon and gave him / and his office staff a few choice words about me.. however, that is now water under the bridge.
I did continue to have nausea/ vomiting, so I was scoped.. nothing, xrayed.. upper GI .. normal, and was told that I would have to learn to adapt to living this way.. but an angel emailed me, invited me to her home on the west coast and arranged for me to see her surgeon.. Dr Oh. He scoped me , found a partial small bowel obstruction, and thought I was fixed. .. Scoped a few days later to discover my pouch was enlarged and atonic.. meaning without muscle tone. I came home, took reglan.. medication to help motility .. and became sicker and sicker. I was hospitalized many times, put on TPN through a picc line, developed MRSA as a result, and flew back to the west coast to have revision surgery to reconstruct my pouch in Feb 2002.. I  have been doing great.. have a few issues with vitamin deficiencies but I am ok..
Take care  .. further questions.. email me .. Gigi1078@aol.com
