Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.I was addicted to food before weight loss surgery. I , at almost 4 years post op, deal with the food demons on a daily basis. I know that I am in control now and that is what keeps me successful. Before weight loss surgery, I turned to food for everything.. comfort in times of need, happiness in times of celebration, etc. I know that I have to feed these emotions with other things now, and I also know that those addictive behaviors can and will return any moment.

Renee and I traveled to Norcross to attend the Atlanta OH event last weekend. We got to the hotel early Friday afternoon, got settled in, took showers, and got dressed to go to the greet and meet.. it was awesome getting to meet so many new friends, and seeing a few old friends.
Saturday, we got up early and got to the host hotel for the conference and registered. The speakers were awesome, and the highlight of my day was having lunch with the other support group leaders , alongside Eric Klein, founder and CEO of OH.. it was super!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I came home with lots of information to share with my newly formed support group and had a great first meeting.. seven were in attendance. The week went by so fast, and here I sit in Raleigh NC helping my nephew and niece get moved into their new apt.. it isfun...
Well, until the next meeting and more to report. oh, and btw... being so busy, and staying more focused on good habits, I am down another 5 pounds again.. so the scale is finally moving in the right direction again.
Later..

I am officially a certified OH Support Group Leader on September 3, 2007 2:39 pm
I am official. I finished the required three training sessions on August 23, and am so happy I went through this training.
My first support group meeting is set to meet on Monday , Sept 10, 2007 from 7:30 PM -9:00 PM and will be held in the fellowship hall of my church, Cornerstone Baptist Church in Macon.
I have had a number of responses, so looking for a nice crowd at the first meeting, which will mainly be introductions, answering a short survey, and gathering member data. I will have a couple handouts to give everyone as well, and maybe a couple protein bars to sample.. not sure about this one yet.
I am excited.. went to the support group meeting in Stockbridge last week, led by Jeannie Armstrong.. it was an awesome group.. Jeannie is doing such a good job promoting her group and gaining more members.
I am staying busy with support group activities, church, family and friends. I will post more on these later..
Keep me in prayers, as we think I have a marginal ulcer again.. I had one in 2001 that perforated, spread to the backside of my liver and caused me to develop peritonitis. I am going in for some tests , starting Sept 13, and EGD on Oct 8..
Take care.. until next time
Peachy hugs,
Gina

Anway, it was an awesome meeting, and I look forward to the next one in August.. even if I will be a year older..

my new goals on July 16, 2007 7:56 pm
Hi,
I had received a request to attend the next Obesity Help Support group leadership training. I thought about this and decided that I need to do this for two reasons.. I need to be accountable, and leading a group will give me that accountability, and second, the closest thing to a support group that I am aware of that is active is about a 45 minute drive north. We have a number of people who have had weight loss surgeries in our town, and no local support group. So, I am preparing to be a trained obesity help support group leader.
My other goal, and calling, I feel, is to become an LPN. I am planning on attending LPN classes at the local tech college. I have thought for a long time that I wanted to go into a nursing career, and I am not getting any younger, so why wait.. especially with the shortage of nurses?
I feel that God is calling me to go into nursing to give caring and compassion to those in need, those that are hurting, and etc.
Well, until next time..
Peachy hugs,
Gina

Long weekend on July 11, 2007 9:30 am
Well, it has been a very long but good type of tired, weekend. I drove my friend, Renee to Atlanta to start preparing for her lap RNY on Saturday. Her friend from Virginia flew in to be with her Saturday afternoon. Monday am at 3 , we, me, and Renee's two sisters, left going back to Atlanta to be there for Renee as she underwent her surgery. She did great, and is now at home recuperating.
I am taking it easy today, as I have to make the long trek back to Atlanta tomorrow for my doctor appt.. it is about a 2 hour drive one way from home to Atlanta for me..
Take care

My Story Hi,
I am Gina, age 53 now, live in the hot, humid state of Georgia. I had proximal RNY at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA in Dec of 2000. Four months after my original surgery, I was hospitalized again for emergency revision surgery due to a complete staple line disruption, a marginal ulcer that had perforated, spread to the backside of my liver, and caused me to develop peritonitis as a result. I lost weight during these 4 months, although I had a staple line disruption.. weight loss due to the fact that I had constant nausea/ vomiting which we thought was due to the ulcer. I had the surgery in April 2001 and was sent home with unresolved peritonitis, pneumonia, and was so weak that my sister , a nurse, came and got me, took me home with her and took care of me for the next 5 weeks. She also made a few phone calls to the original surgeon and gave him / and his office staff a few choice words about me.. however, that is now water under the bridge.
I did continue to have nausea/ vomiting, so I was scoped.. nothing, xrayed.. upper GI .. normal, and was told that I would have to learn to adapt to living this way.. but an angel emailed me, invited me to her home on the west coast and arranged for me to see her surgeon.. Dr Oh. He scoped me , found a partial small bowel obstruction, and thought I was fixed. .. Scoped a few days later to discover my pouch was enlarged and atonic.. meaning without muscle tone. I came home, took reglan.. medication to help motility .. and became sicker and sicker. I was hospitalized many times, put on TPN through a picc line, developed MRSA as a result, and flew back to the west coast to have revision surgery to reconstruct my pouch in Feb 2002.. I have been doing great.. have a few issues with vitamin deficiencies but I am ok..
Take care .. further questions.. email me .. Gigi1078@aol.com
