Surgeon Testimonial

Paul J. Guske
Dr.Guske and his partners are great. From my first impression of him to how I feel about him now, he has the best bedside manner and really cares about his patients. His office staff is also very helpful and knowledgeable. I have no complaints. I just wish that I would have seen him more while in the hospital but from a nurses perspective, I know that docs need to rotate who rounds on patients. He did surprise me one night post-op and stop in, while I thought it would be Dr.Kane. His nurse practitioners are also very good and knowledgeable. Their office stresses the importance of aftercare and support groups. I personally have had no complications and if I had any questions about risks, they were all addressed very thoroughly. I give Dr.Guske and his staff at the Kane center a 9.5. He had a great bedside manner and is very competant when it comes to caring for me.

I'm still here.

enlightenedIt has been over 1.5 years since I last posted and I am happy to say that I haven't gained all my weight back.  I did gain about 20# but have since lost more than half of that and am back on track.  I have fallen in love and am now engaged to the most wonderful man.  He is truly my sole mate.  Larry loves me for me and accepts my faults without making a big issue out of them.  None of us is perfect and I have come to accept him as he is too.  He does not try to change me nor do I try to change him.  I love him for who he is and I feel his love towards me every minute that we are together.  I don't know if I would have ever found him if it hadn't been for my weight loss surgery and it's giving me my life back.  I have never felt so loved by any man and am very happy now.  I owe everything to GOD.  HE has made my life anew.....I am truly blessed...laugh

Well, I did it....logged day 1 of the 8 week double dog dare you challenge for the BOTT group...  I didn't get any exercise in yesterday but today is a different day and I will get to the gym after work..

Today, I have my food logged and have been getting my water and vitamins in like I need to...I will try to avoid my favorite popcorn tonight.  I need a substitute for it but have to figure out what...I love the crunch and the salt...Oh well...I can do this with the support of my BOTT team and GOD's help.  I am so fortunate to have gotten this far in my journey and know that I can get the last 25-30 pounds off by Christmas...That is my goal!!!!

BOTT: Double Dog Dare You 8 week challenge
on September 25, 2011 1:44 pm

Well, here we are.  Tomorrow is September 26th and the start of doing what I was taught to do after my WLS, April 21, 2009.  I will start to log my food, get at least 60 gms of protein per day and at least 64 ounces of water per day.  I also need to take my vitamins without fail and work out at the gym.  This will be my goal for the next 8 weeks so that I can get back on track and lose the last 25-30 pounds.  With the help of my support group the BOTTs, I can do this..

God will also be by strength and guide through this journey.  I will call on HIM in times of trouble and HE will help me.  HE will be my strength, my guide.

Back on track

Hurray!!!!  I was able to complete 1 day without making terrible choices for eating.  It wasn't easy but I know that I can continue to follow a healthy eating plan and use the tool that I have been given to get to my weight loss goal.  I didn't get to exercise but that's okay.  Baby steps are what I have to take.  I am proud of myself for having some self-control and making wise choices yesterday.
Today is a new day and I need to stay focused and continue on the right path for weight loss.
God is my ultimate guide.  He will lead me in the right direction.

Time to regroup and start over.
on August 17, 2011 3:57 am
I did it again, fell off the wagon.  I have to find a way to get around eating those carbs that go down tooooo easily.  I did eat a lot more veggies yesterday in an attempt to avoid them but got lazy in the evening when I was tired after the gym and before dinner was done cooking.  I need to make healthier choices and I am going to do it right today.  I will try a protein shake instead of empty or easy to get carbs.  I need to continue coming back to this web-site and remember my goal:  lose most all my weight by my 50th birthday.  That is October 25 of this year.  I have about 30 pounds to go.  With support and focusing I know that I can do it.        "God helps those who help themselves"

My Story

My story began when I was in my teens.  I have been overweight my entire life and it has been getting worse every year due to having to take steroids for my asthma.  Of course, if my weight was much less then my asthma would be better.  I know this since there was a time that I was close to my goal weight and the asthma wasn't even an issue.  I was able to workout 5-6 days a week without getting out'of-breath and I actually looked forward to exercise.  During the past 4-5 years my weight has increased by leaps and bounds.  My BMI is 56.8 and I've never weighed as much in my life.  I look forward to the days ahead when I can sit in a movie theater without having to raise the arm rest next to my seat so that I can fit more comfortably.  I look forward to not having to take all the medications I do to control my blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, asthma, GERD, and depression.  I hope to some day not have to wear a C-PAP machine at night. I want to be able to be active with my kids and someday soon my grandkids.  I ahve been contemplating having WLS for over 2 years and am excited and nervous that the day is getting closer.  There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
