Hello Everyone.

I thought I better update this section to properly introduce myself. My name is Dawn. I live in Peterborough, ON. I am 32 years old and a married mother of 2 (ages 9 & 3). I currently weigh 287lbs and am 5'9" (BMI 43 I think). I have been overweight for as long as I can remember. About 20 years! I have tried different diets, different diet meds, and I've just gained it all back. I am tired of living in this body. I had originally thougt of WLS back in 2002 but my family dr. talked me out of it. Now, not having a family dr., I am seriously looking into WLS. I have looked into the lapband but it isn't covered by insurance. I exhausted all possible avenues to finance it. SO, now I have found the Mini Gastric Bypass. I would like to have this done in Bay City, MI by Dr. Paul Doroghazi. I need to complete the patient package and get an OHIP approval. I have chosen this surgery because it is done laproscopically and it's quick recovery time.

I have a tentative date!
on May 28, 2007 8:31 am
I just got an e-mail from Kim Hazen (isn't she awesome!?!?) and she has booked me a tentative date of July 13/07. This is provided I get my packet complete and an OHIP approval!!

I am soooooo excited!! Now I have to get my rear in gear and get everything together because she would like all of the info in at least 2 weeks before surgery (in case there are last minute things that need to be done!!)

I CAN'T WAIT!! It's funny how we can't wait to torment our insides!! We just know that the final outcome will be wonderful (hopefully!)

I'll keep everyone posted.

I can't wait that long!
on May 24, 2007 1:59 pm
I phoned my Nurse Practitioner's office and there is a 2 month waiting list to get in to discuss WLS and to address the OHIP forms. So that means if I wait until then, then wait for the OHIP approval, then schedule my appointment, we could be looking at October or November. I know that is nothing compared to the waiting lists in Ontario. SO...I asked today on the Ontario forum what people think I should do. I think my option right now is to go to a walk-in clinic. I know I will need to go well armed with all the information. Today when I spoke to the Nurse Practitioner, she had no idea that I could go to the US and have OHIPpay for it. I don't think she knew how well prepared I am at making this decision. I think she thought I was just inquiring about it. It kind of surprised her when I knew where, and who I wanted to have the surgery with. She said to make sure I brought in all the info, Dr's name and contacts etc. I'm not going to wait that long. If I have to wait until September then that's fine but not much longer then that.
