Back to the hospital AGAIN!!
on November 24, 2008 7:18 pm
Well, removing my gallbladder seemed to have done nothing!!  Within 2 weeks I was readmitted to Schumpert for another week, because I hadn't been able to hold down foods in 2 weeks and then began not being able to hold down liquids!!  I was rescoped and guess what??  My ulcer is back FULL FORCE!!  My lipase enzyme has dropped but very slowly!  I spent almost a week back in the hospital on Gutrest!  In other words, nothing to eat or drink- period!  Not even ice chips!!  I was discharged late Sat.  it is now Mon. and I have thrown up both days since I have been home!!  I am constantly in pain- what now??  Thanksgiving is in 3 days, I refuse to miss Thanksgiving with my family!!  I am soooo discouraged!!

Surgery #2
on November 24, 2008 7:06 pm
Had my gallbladder removed with the highest of optimisim-  the jokes on me again- I have been so depleated of nutrients and dehydrated that they couldn't start an IV!  7 tries and 2 nurse anastesiologists(sp?) later they put a nitris oxcide mask on me and went in through my radial artery!!!  My lipase level was so high that day that I had to spend the night!  I did come home the next day though..... Stay tuned for the next blog, though!

Gallbladder/Pancreas
on October 29, 2008 5:27 pm
Jason and I are going to have to take out a second mortgage on our house to pay Schumpert at this point!!  I just got back from spending a lovely week at the beautiful Schumpert resort and spa...haha!  Went in for another stricture dialation, only to have stricture symptoms the very next day, I started throwing up EVERYTHING, and was taken to the ER on Wed. night, where I was admitted to the hospital and stayed for the better part of the next week.  My potassium was so low I was given potassium continusally through my I.V. ouch!  After several test we found out that my gallbladder is not functioning properly and in turn has messed with my pancreas!  My pancreas is so inflammed that we can not do the surgery to take the gallbladder out until it heals some!  Ugh!!  I was able to come home on Sun. and will see Dr. Barnes to schedule my next surgery on next Mon.  If I begin to puke again- it's back to the hospital!  I just want to hold out for Halloween on Fri!  I am really depressed about all of this!  And to top it all off, my ulcer is acting up today, could that mean my stricture is coming back, could I be so lucky??............

Stricture #2
on October 21, 2008 8:26 pm
Back to my second home today, the lovely Schumpert- I was dialated again for yet another stricture.  Dr. Barnes describe it as a "stubborn one".  i am sure that I will be back next week.  I am still having alot of trouble with my throat, so I don't know if it even "took" this time??  The pain in my chest and back has decreased but my ulcer is sooooo unhappy!!  Dr. Barnes said that the ulcer is healing well, but it feels no better to me.  I was stuck multiple times by almost every nurse on the floor again today, I also had to have a banana bag due to my dehydration and lack of vitamins.  We'll see where we go from here....

Stricture...
on October 10, 2008 9:36 pm
Back to Schumpert today for an EGD, and it is to no one's surprise- I have a stricture!!  I have gotten to the point that I throw up water these days!!  I can not describe how uncomfortable I have been since Sept. 3rd!  According to Dr. barnes, who I bawled and scwaled in front of today-my ulcer was HUGE and has been a major setback!  He promises greener pastures!!  What option do I have but to sit back and see.....

My Story

Hello everyone!  My battle with obesity has been a life long one, I am sure much like most all of yours.  I have been on every diet imaginable!  I did lose 72 lbs. on Weight Watchers while in college only to gain back 93 lbs!  Before gaining my 93 lbs. I had a breast reduction, abdomnioplasty and liposuction- lotta good that did me, huh??  Needless to say I need a surgical intervention to be successful and healthy!  Here is a brief synopsis of my life fighting for weight loss surgery since May 2007.
As many of you know getting your insurance company to pay for WLS is next to impossible, however, my husband's insurance carrier started carrying a "Weight Management Program" last year.  The deal was that if you could meet all of their criteria and jump through all of their hoops they would fund the procedure.  So begins the fight of a lifetime!  Rather than bore you with all the gory details I will list out the main hoops I have jumped through in the last year!
-Psychiatric evalution to determine I am mentally stable to begin program.
-3 visits at 6 month intervals with an exercise physiologist to complete stress test and measure my cardio endurance.
-4 visits with registered dietician to adjust my diet.
-36 visits with a personal trainer for 1 hour cardio and weight training workouts.
-sleep study-diagnosed with sleep apnea.
-Family physician for full physical and lab workup.
-Pulmonologist for Pulmonary Function Test.
-H. Pylori test to check for bacteria that causes stomach ulcers.
-Psychiatric evaluation to determine that I am mentally stable for the surgery now.
-EGD scope, to check for ulcers, hernias or stomach cancer.
-Lose 10% of my excess body weight.
I had a "case manager" assigned to me by the insurance company that I had to send bi-weekly logs documenting my weight, blood pressure, waist circumference, and BMI.  Every third one had to be signed by either my family physician or my trainer, talk about humiliation!
I am happy to report that I have a surgery date scheduled for Sept.3rd!!!
