Surgeon Testimonial

Timothy Kuwada, MD
I really liked my surgeon from the start. He is very friendly a people person. He doesn't rush you, he takes his time to explain everything to you personally. The office staff was excellent also and very helpful to my needs and concerns. He personally called me 2wks before surgery, the night before, and then the day of returning home from the hospital to see if I had any needs or concerns. He is a wonderful Surgeon in a great practice. I loved having to go to only one office to see my Surgeon, weight loss MD, trainer, dietian, and psychiatrist. The support group is helping a lot. I will be in his aftercare program for 2yrs after surgery.

You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.

A Surprise Update
on September 8, 2009 7:46 am
I was rushed to the Hospital on Sunday, August 23rd and to my surprise, I had an ectopic pregnancy. After 10yrs of trying to get pregnant, I was finally able to and it just happened to be a tubal pregnancy. So now I know why my weight was not quickly coming off like I wanted it to. I was put on 4 weeks of recovery and now I will still continue to be successful with my weight loss.

3mths MD Visit
on August 20, 2009 12:18 pm

Went in to see MD today and found out that I lost 24lbs. He would like to see a little more weight loss during this time, so he set me up for a Nutritionist visit and gave me the challenge of trying to lose 30lbs. more by November.  Hopefully I will be down 30lbs plus.

My Story

July 23rd, 2008 was the date that I went to the group meeting to find out more about the Gastric and Lap Band surgery.  I had heard alot of things and wanted to know 1st hand. After that meeting, I started going to support group meeting with my husband to hear about alot of the pros and cons. While doing this I started doing research on the Internet about top MD in our area.  About a month later, i was having my 1st consultation appt. with my soon to be surgeon. Everything went well, except with the Insurance Company that I had I had to go through the 6-month weight management program. Which wasn't so bad, but I was just ready to get the surgery over with and start seeing some results. My weight at this time was 283lbs.

During the weight  management program, I learned alot of things about my health that I did not know.  I ended up having to use a CPAP machine because I had sleep apnea. My metabolism was very slow because I was always trying to use weight loss pills and my weight was always up and down. I ended up going on a blood pressure pill and Fish Oil pills because my cholesterol was very high. So then I started to fill thankful. I would have monthly visit with the weight management MD, 2 visits a month with the trainer and dietian. I also had to stop smoking before my MD would even consider sending my paperwork in for approval.

My paperwork was sent in on May 15th, 2009, I was approved the same day and my surgery was scheduled for Monday, May 18th, 2009 @ 7am. My weight on surgery day was 278lbs. Surgery was not as bad as I thought that it would be, I am always thinking the worst. I had a lot of family and friend support.  I was in the hospital for 3 days, when I was released home I did not have to use the strong medication that the MD prescribed, I was able to just use Motrin for kids twice a day for pain for the 1st week and then nothing after that. I went back in for my 6 wks follow up and I was weighing 264lbs.

Today is my 3mth anniversary not sure of my weight, because my MD did not want us to weigh ourselves doing this time because every one loses at a different rate. But I feel that mine is very slow or something is wrong. I feel as though I have lost weight in my clothes in my lower region and upper region but not around my waist. I can still fit in my before surgery clothes. I can't wait to see my MD on Thursday to see what the problem/malfunction is.
