14 DAYS TO GO!!!!!
on January 1, 2010 10:57 am
I can't believe how quickly the time is going.  6 months ago I went to the Seminar and in just two weeks I'll be having WLS.  Since I last blogged, I've gone to my hematologist for my annual visit and found out that since I had a blood clot on the bottom of my foot more than 8 years ago (none since then) I will have to give myself a shot of lovenox (blood thinner) once a day for 6 weeks.  Plus, since I still have my gall bladder I have to take Urso Forte once a day for 6 MONTHS in order to avoid getting gall stones.  PLUS since I have a touch of Asthma, I will need to use the spirometer 4 times a day for a month.   I'll be so busy taking meds and stuff that I won't have time to eat!  :-)

ONE MONTH TO GO!
on December 17, 2009 6:19 pm
 Hi All,
I haven't been on here is quite a while and tonight it occurred to me that just one month from today I will be having my surgery (actually, this time next month I will be POST OP!!!).  As the day gets closer I feel my self getting a bit more anxious, but I know deep down that WLS is the best option for me. I'm so tired of being FAT!  I look at my clothes and I say "In a few months, these pants will be too big for me.  In a few months, these sweaters will be too big for me"  and I get this huge smile on my face.

I finally told my youngest son what I'm planning. At first he was very worried...asked if I had done research on the subject.  :-)   I assured him I had and so had his dad.  After discussing the pre-op prep, operation and post op lifestyle, he is behind me 100%. But I still haven't told my mother.  The longer I wait, the more I think I've done the proper thing.  I don't want her to worry.  She's 85 years old and has many health issues herself.  she doesn't need one more thing to worry about.  Once I'm out of surgery I will call her and let her know.  At first she'll probably be a bit angry that I didn't let her know sooner, but she's very forgiving.

This Tuesday I have my meeting with Lisa and Maryellen and a week later with Dr. Peters.   Time just flew right by.  Incredible.

I'll post a full length "before" picture as soon as I can.

3 down FINALLY
on September 17, 2009 11:16 am
So in my most recent blog I mentioned the miscommunication between the Gastro doctor and his staff with regard to the surgery clearance issue.  Well, I just got off the phone with the receptionist who, first of all apologized for the confusion and secondly, assured me that all the proper papers were sent today to Dr. Wynn as well as my PCP.

So this makes 3 clearances:  Gastroenterologist, Psychologist and Pulmonologist.  Now all I need is one from the Cardiologist. I have a meeting with him next Tuesday.  I'm sure he'll schedule a stress test for me and then, hopefully, he'll clear me for surgery.

Two down....however
on September 16, 2009 12:40 pm
Yesterday I had my Psych Evaluation with Dr. Martin and everything went well.  She'll be sending Dr. Wynn and my PCP the clearance for surgery.

I also got the results from my Endoscopy. Turns out I DON'T have H-pylori which is great (and don't have to go back till NEXT YEAR), but I don't have clearance quite yet.  As far as the confusion with the clearance - when I spoke with the nurse today she said there was no indication on my charts that this procedure was to get clearance for the surgery.  WHAT??????  I told her that the sole reason for the EDG was to make sure I was ok for WLS clearance and that the specialist and I spoke about this during my consultation with him. At that time he even assured me he'd send the test results to Dr. Wynn and my PCP.    Geeeeez.  One hand doesn't know what the other is doing. So frustrating.

Appointment tomorrow
on September 7, 2009 8:53 am
Tomorrow is my appointment with the Pulmonologist.  I had a chest X-ray taken about a week ago which I will be bringing to the appointment.  Fingers crossed that everything will go smoothly and I'll get clearance.  In my head it seems like it's taking FOREVER between making appointments, seeing the specialists and getting approvals.  But in actuality I've only been going to the prescribed classes for 4 weeks (still have another 8 weeks to go).  I guess when you're anxious to see the "light at the end of the tunnel" it seems that the tunnel is a zillion miles long.

My Story

What's my story?  It's that I'm sick and tired of being fat.  I've struggled with my weight all my life.  The only time I was ever underweight was when I was born (5 lbs 3 oz) . And the longest period of time I was not overweight was from the time I was a year old till I was about 4......then on came the fat.

Yes there were months, even years, when I wasn't actually obese (G-D I HATE that word!!!!), but the fat years have definitely outweighed (no pun intended) the leaner years.  I've been researching bariatric surgery for over a year now and about 6 months ago became serious about having it performed on me.    I've tried almost every weight loss program (Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem - TWICE, Jenny Craig, ALLI (I was in the study group), all kinds of other pills.  They all worked for a while, but here I am.....fatter than ever!  I am a candidate for Diabetes (my dad and maternal grandmother had it) and I have high blood pressure (have been on at least 8 different bp meds in the past 12 years). I am completely ready for a new, healthier, thinner chapter in my life. And the sooner the better.

At present, I'm in the process of getting all the testing/clearing taken care of.  Wow!  What a task that is!!!  But well worth the time and effort, I believe.
