Surgeon Testimonial

Kevan E. Mann
I first met Dr. Mann at orientation for prospective wls patients. I liked him right from the start. Joan Davis is his nurse. We get along well. You can tell she has done this a long time. In my one hour initial consult Dr. Mann went over everything & more that I was required to read/learn from the booklet given to me at orientation.Portsmouth Naval Hosp.has a very comprehensive education and support program. Psych, nutrition (before and after surgery) and medical clearance are all provided. All the risks/benefits of the surgery were discussed.
In my opinion, anyone wanting wls should remember that it is a tool. Just having the surgery will not change your life...you must work to change your life.

Wednesday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench! ~ JudyAnne

wise words from a friend
on September 10, 2008 7:14 am
So my friend the beautiful Christina wrote this awsome statement in her blog :. I also realized that our digestive systems do NOT handle alcohol well. The feeling hits me really fast, but leaves just as quickly it seems. I can see how some become easily addicted to that feeling and keep drinking. I also realize that it’s so dangerous and have put myself on a one drink limit when I go out…if I drink at all.

Let me tell you, that was such a yeah..what she said moment! I often have a glass of wine after dinner sitting on the swing watching the birds, dogs and butterflies. Some days I want two glasses.
For a while my transfer addiction was shopping. I actually had a high from it, and those who know me know I only like to go grocery shopping. Yeah, weird huh? But I have always found it relaxing, and I never shop hungry.
Now I think because I have made so aware of transfer addictions, i have more control.
Ta ta for now.

Great Friends met here on OH
on September 8, 2008 4:36 am
Labor Day weekend 2008, Rickie aka Cleo an I met someone we have grown very close to from the June 07 board.
Crystal B and her sweet hubby Henry came and spent their holiday in Virginia Beach. When I tell you we three gals talked like it was a pj party, I'm telling you we TALKED!!  My husband Leo and Henry gave us an all girl day. The next night we all went to dinner at Rudee's on the Inlet.
Prayers, laughter, yummy food and great friends = a great combo.

I am also blessed with other ladies. I adore Amber and her son B. I would do anything for them. Corinn, oh my goodness, this woman is GORGEOUS!!

Thank you all and thanks to OH for all my friends.

I went to the GYN and I need to have bloodwork drawn and an ultrasound of the uterus and ovaries done. Off to get a referral I go!

I have a new drink I LOVE!!! it is Lipton Diet Peach/Papaya White Tea.
YUMMO!! I have mixed vanilla protein powder and ice. Tastes like a tropical smoothie. I also mix Nectar Lemon Tea protein powder. TA DA..peach/papaya tea.

Did I mention I have been feeling shakey and lightheaded about the same time every day? I posted my ?? on the bestest board here...the Virginia state board. My girls have all suggested the same thing...low blood sugar. i'm going to try Courtneys suggestion of eating a couple of crackers with the ham or cheese I have as a snack.

I'm putting together some of my favorite recipes and I will offer them when they are ready.

Check back often!

Moving along
on July 24, 2008 4:35 pm
So just after my surgeon said 146 lbs is a good weight for me and it's OK to not lose another pound, I loose 3 lbs! I have lost a total of 103 lbs and maintained at 146 for 4 months.
I was taken off my blood pressure medicine after being on it for 22 yes twenty two years.

I am interested in becoming a support group leader.

I met  some new folks at lunch with my WE's yesterday. Sharon and Susan T and the incredible Blair. Wonderful folks.

I think I am perimenopausal. I have the absolute worse night sweats. I'm saying change my t shirt 2 -3 x and the sheets once. Aaaargh. My TOM varies 30 + days bleeding for one day, heavily. In fact this past Monday, it came on like gangbusters. I stood up and passed a clot. It felt like a miscarriage w/o the cramping. I go to my gyn on Monday.

Thanks for visiting...see you around OH!

One year post op
on June 6, 2008 2:50 pm
I really cannot believe that one year ago today I had lap RNY. I have met so many goals.

1) off diabetes meds in the first week
2) off cholesterol meds
3) exercise 5 out of 7 days
4) wear a size 10 pant, small shirt--down from a 22/24--2X
5) sat comfortably in an airline seat with legs tucked under me!
6) I can shop in nearly any "normal" store
7) I AM HEALTHY
8) and hmmm... what was the other thing?.. OH YEAH, I lost 96 lbs!!!

what a wonderful ride this has been thus far. I have met so many great folks here on the boards. The Virginia state board and the June 2007 surgery board have absolutely the most caring, straight shooting, encouraging people. I have made so many close friends.
I hope the support, advice and encouragement I pass on to those who follow helps on their journeys.
