Surgeon Testimonial

Kevan E. Mann
I first met Dr. Mann at orientation for prospective wls patients. I liked him right from the start. Joan Davis is his nurse. We get along well. You can tell she has done this a long time. In my one hour initial consult Dr. Mann went over everything & more that I was required to read/learn from the booklet given to me at orientation.Portsmouth Naval Hosp.has a very comprehensive education and support program. Psych, nutrition (before and after surgery) and medical clearance are all provided. All the risks/benefits of the surgery were discussed. rnIn my opinion, anyone wanting wls should remember that it is a tool. Just having the surgery will not change your life...you must work to change your life.

Wednesday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. Well I have done it. I wore a two piece suit to the beach...and the top was not a Tankini!
I weight 143 and think I look pretty darn hgood considering I have not had any plastics.

Life just goes by so fast. For those of you starting your journey, I wish you all the best. Please read through my blogs. Learn everything you can prior to your surgery. Also change your behaviors pre op.

I am always willing to mentor.

April update
on April 7, 2009 9:05 am
Hello there! Thanks for stopping by my profile.

I am approaching my 2 year surgiversary! I drink all my water get in all my protein but have fallen a bit with vitamins every day. I now will take them at bedtime. There won't be any food /drink conflict.
I'm loviing my life. Hubby and I have been together 10 years and it keeps getting better. We hit our first big hurdle last mnth over $$ but we have prevailed!

Doug did not get into Berklee this year. He will be going to Full Sail University in FL beginning in the fall. He wants to major in recording arts. There are many success stories from the college.
Leo's  health is better. He is diabetic but has it under control. Still hoping to make Chief this year. Next month he graduates from St. Leo University (really) He then will go to Troy University for his masters degree in Human Resource Management.

Kristin is doing very well at Univ of Tamps. She hopes to get into the Army ROTC. Our eldest son Leo IV, finally found another job in construction with a raise!
My ex hubby, Doug's Dad, is FINALLY getting remarried. It's been 11 years and um, hello...he walked out on me..serves him right LOL. The woman he is marrying is very nice and to quote my daughter " he is marrying her because she is just like you!" Cindy can put up with Bob and she loves my son so she is good in my book!
Bob and his entire family will be coming for Doug's HS graduation. I must be a glutton for punishment. I didn't like my sister in law when Bob and I were together but she is Doug's Aunt and his Godmother so.....

We are leaving for Florida on Friday. I will be seeing my BFF Becky for the first time in nearly 2 years. She moved just after my surgery and she had hers last March. Watch out Tampa...two hot skinny b's hitting the beach!

have a blessed day

In the blink of an eye

...................time speeds by .
I have been missing OH and all of you my friends, my family.

Late November, early December Leo had a health scare. What was initially thought to be the return of kidney stones turned more serious. His kidneys were spilling too much sugar..well over 1000 mg per dl when it should be 100-200. Then his liver was / is inflamed. And if that is not enough he now shares with me DDD..degenerative disc disease. He has it in the lumbar spine an I have it in the cervical spine. He has also been diagnosed as borderline diabetic and takes Metformin 500 mg daily. Thanks to all of you who prayed and sent well wishes through facebook and myspace.

Kristin came home from Univ. of Tampa for 6 LONG weeks! Doug had an audition / interview at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. His piano and guitar teachers gave letters of recommendation and feel his chances of admission are excellent! We should find out by Feb. 1.

My husband , 2 of our 3 kids and I celebrated a blessed Christmas and an uneventful New Year. Our eldest son was unable to join us; he was laid off his construction job as a restoration carpenter just 3 days before Christmas.
I thoroughly enjoyed having a 2 week Christmas break from work. I am so fulfilledwith my job as Activity Center Leader for the before and after school program. Although my official "working hours" are 6 hours a day, much like a teacher i find i bring work home. There are always games, crafts and special events to plan for 60 children ages 5-12.

Blessings to all of you.

wise words from a friend
on September 10, 2008 7:14 am
So my friend the beautiful Christina wrote this awsome statement in her blog :. I also realized that our digestive systems do NOT handle alcohol well. The feeling hits me really fast, but leaves just as quickly it seems. I can see how some become easily addicted to that feeling and keep drinking. I also realize that it’s so dangerous and have put myself on a one drink limit when I go out…if I drink at all.

Let me tell you, that was such a yeah..what she said moment! I often have a glass of wine after dinner sitting on the swing watching the birds, dogs and butterflies. Some days I want two glasses.
For a while my transfer addiction was shopping. I actually had a high from it, and those who know me know I only like to go grocery shopping. Yeah, weird huh? But I have always found it relaxing, and I never shop hungry.
Now I think because I have made so aware of transfer addictions, i have more control.
Ta ta for now.

Great Friends met here on OH
on September 8, 2008 4:36 am
Labor Day weekend 2008, Rickie aka Cleo an I met someone we have grown very close to from the June 07 board.
Crystal B and her sweet hubby Henry came and spent their holiday in Virginia Beach. When I tell you we three gals talked like it was a pj party, I'm telling you we TALKED!!  My husband Leo and Henry gave us an all girl day. The next night we all went to dinner at Rudee's on the Inlet.
Prayers, laughter, yummy food and great friends = a great combo.

I am also blessed with other ladies. I adore Amber and her son B. I would do anything for them. Corinn, oh my goodness, this woman is GORGEOUS!!

Thank you all and thanks to OH for all my friends.

I have also had neck and spine problems and could not walk or sit w/o excruitating pain. I have chosen to have this surgery is for my health. I have diabetes,HBP, high cholestrol, and bad knees.
