Surgeon Testimonial

Dennis Glatt, M.D.
Sept. 4, 2006 - Dr. Glatt did my surgery July 17th and all went very well. We were very nervous but Dr. Glatt has so much confidence in his skills that you are immediately put at ease. His nurse is wonderful and very accomodating. I can definitely say that I am so glad that I had the surgery. At 7 weeks out I have lost 47 1/2 pounds.rnrnJune 21, 2006, Dr. Glatt did my colonoscopy and endoscopy today. I really like him and I appreciate the fact that he is doing some extra tests due to my history with cancer. He remembered me from the last time we met which was nice. rnrnMy husband and I met Dr Glatt for the first time yesterday (May 19, 2006). We both really liked him and felt comfortable with his knowledge, skills, and training. He seems very thorough and wants to take some extra precautions because of my history with cancer. Kathryn, sending you lots of good thoughts and hugs. You did it! How disappointing that you did not loose, but gained some weight at the hospital. You will be loosing soon, I am very sure. Your body has gone through some big changes and needs time to heal, on day you will get on your scale and notice your weight loss is a reality. I am sorry that your pain meds are not covering the pain as they should. Your doctor should help correct that. Pain is so hard to deal with (I know). Today is a new day and I hope you find less pain, more comfort, and a feeling of getting skinner! hugs, Aunt Pam

Topic: took before photos last night
5/22/06 Yesterday, I started dieting to prepare for surgery. So I took my "Before" photos last night. I have noticed that some of the Before photos are not of that person at their highest weight.. I was giong to wait until I had the right outfit on etc.. But then I decided that I really wanted the photos to show my highest weight. I want the change to be obvious as soon as possible (immediate gratification). I feel like I had my last supper on the day that I met with the surgeon. I am hoping that dieting while I wait for insurance approval will help me get through the wait.
My Dr said you lose fat in your abdomen first and the less fat there is, the easier it is to do the surgery. I am one of these people who carry the majority of their weight in my belly. I want to do everything that I can to make surgery as easy as possible. I am concerned that if insurance approval takes too long, the frustration will cause me to eat.

6/3/06 Most of the world is in the dark about WLS. They think it is a dangerous cop out. I myself thought the same for a long time. But when my health deteriorated enough that I started viewing WLS as a way to get my health back.

06/04/2006 I feel like I am in weight loss surgery limbo. I am awaiting insurance approval and I feel like my whole life is on hold. I do not want to make plans for the summer as I am hoping to have surgery in July. I normally love to shop for clothes, but now I do not want to buy anymore clothes the size I am currently in..It seems like I am waiting for my life to go on. My life will be so different after surgery, I am anxious to plan for my new, active, and energetic life.

6/11/06 The insurance company got my request for approval on the Tuesday after Memorial Day 5/30/06 and had the decision Friday 6/9/06. The first time I called they told me when the request entered their system 5/30/06 and said it could take 10 business days. They told me to call back on Friday 6/2/06 and then this week they told me to call back on Friday 6/9/06. I called on Friday in the morning and it was still in the review process. I called again Friday on my way home from work and they had an answer, I was approved. I don't know if they review during the week and post the responses on Friday or what. I was so anxious that I called almost every business day.

6/25/2006 On Tuesday we went to Sioux Falls for the class with the Bariatric Coordinator and the Dietician. On Wednesday I had labs done, an EKG, a chest Xray, an Endoscopy and a colonoscopy. My surgeon did the endoscopy and the colonoscopy. The bowel prep for the colonoscopy was terrible.. I could barely keep it down. The motel we were staying at, shut off the water for most of the early evening (they were replacing the hot water heater). I couldn't even flush the toilet. I was very miserable.

1/21/2007 I had my surgery on July 17, 2006 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. After a 2 day hospital stay, I was released to go home (5 hours away). The trip was uneventful except for when we drove over some railroad tracks and I felt some pain.

I was off work for 2 weeks and was ready to go back when it was time. My weight loss has been steady.

Lately I have realized how easy it is to graze. I know I must be consuming a lot of calories when I graze because my weight loss stops. I am committed to eliminate between meal snacking. If I drink hot decaffienated tea with splenda added, it helps.

My friend from high school is going to have weightloss surgery on January 24th. I am so excited for her!!!!!!
