Surgeon Testimonial

Dana Portenier, M.D.
My first impression of Dr. Portenier was very good. He was very informative and took the time to answer in depth all of my questions. My surgery went so much better than i expected. I had virtually no soreness after the first 24 hours and his PA was so good during aftercare. I am two weeks post op and will see him again in one week. The only complaint I had was with the triage nurse at the clinic, Barbara. She was abrupt with me on the phone when I called 3 days post op with a question about my fluids. She needs to remember that we the patients and our insurance companies are paying her salary. I plan to let Dr. Portenier know, but that was the only problem I've had with Duke WLS Clinic. Everything else.......BRAVO!!!!!

5 weeks post op

It's been 5 weeks now since getting my band.  My new best friend.  I LOVE this band.  I am down 32.4 lbs and feel so much better already.  Clothes are fitting looser and my whole outlook on weight loss is better than it's ever been.  Got my first fill Monday, 4 days ago.  3.75 cc's.  I feel some restriction, and am able to eat what is allowed on my plan.  I haven't risked eating things that arent' allowed, don't want to push my luck and wind up kneeling over the porcelain.  Making healthier choices which is now easy for some reason.  I think mentally, I know it's best for the band and for me.  I figure if I'm good to my band, my band will be good to me.

one more week on fluids....YAY!!   Cant wait to finally get a soft/mushy something or other in a week.  The journey so far hasn't been all that bad,  as long as my mind is made up to follow the rules.  Getting easier and easier each day to get all my fluids down.  Having a bit more hunger to kick in too.  Usually is remedied with adequate water intake, so I'm having to focus on getting 64 oz. per day.  Down 21.5 lbs according to my bathroom scales.  Cant wait to see what the Doc's scales show.  ONe more week....I feel like I made it through the rough patch.
