Surgeon Testimonial

Rita Anderson
She did my fiancee's surgery in 2005. She is a no nonsense Dr who is not afraid to tell you how it is. This is what I liked the best about her. The office staff are wonderful and very helpful and supportive. Dr Anderson is very involved with your progress after the surgery.

2 days post op
on March 16, 2008 9:52 am
Today is Sunday, my surgery was Friday. I don't remember anything from the time I went into the surgical suite to the time I got to my room. I don't remember anything from recovery. i woke up with an N/G tube in my nose. I also woke up with alot of pain in my chest and back. My PCA of Diluaidid never touched it. When the nurse checked my N/G placemnt it wasn't correct, I felt the air in my thraot . so she had to try and shove it back in. yuk. I did 20 laps around the nurses station yesterday. 10 is what they want us to do. i think I overdid it though because I woke up really sore today. They just gave me my first dose of vicodin so I can be weaned off the Diluadid. My pain is up there, especially if I move. I have been so sleepy that I will sit up in the chair and doze, only waking when my head goes to the side.

Sorry if there are any typos I just took the vicodin and I took a dose of Diludid to hold me until the vicodin kicks in.

Tomarrow is the day!
on March 13, 2008 5:54 pm
I am so excited that Friday is soon here. I have no worries, only relief that this is finally happening. I didn't do so bad with the clear liquid diet today. The bowel prep of mag citrate is another story... UGHHH that is so bitter. I mixed it with Ocean Sprays white-cran-peach drink. I have to drink more because of the mix but at least it isn't so bitter. I am almost done I only have a little bit to go but I am past the enough point, I keep getting dry heaves when I take a drink so I am going pretty slow now, just trying to keep it all down. The only person that is going to the hospital with me is my fiancee', he is so nervous I hope he is OK.

ALMOST ON THE SWITCH SIDE!

If I ever get to sleep tonight, I will have 2 more days of work then I have my surgery! The time has went so fast. I hadmy pre-op Dr appt. today. It waas quick and easy. I just love Dr Rita! She is so positive and optimistc about it all. She told me she thought I would do excellent with the surgery. I am so excited. Tomarrow is my LAST MEAL. It's to bad I have to work till almost midnight . Then Thursday is clear liquids until midnight with the W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L bowel prep. Don't I seem very excited....NOT. Only thing I can say is I will do anything I have to do to become healthy. My fiancee' is still very nervous for me because of his complications. I on the other hand am so excited. It has been almost 3 yrs since I started the journey to get approved for WLS. Well I am off to bed to try and get some sleep. Will update more later......Just being able to write my thoughts done has given me such peace... Thanks to anyone who reads these.

My Story

Hi! I decided I would join so I could keep track of my thoughts while waiting and going through the WLS. I have chosen the BPD/DS for my surgery and it is scheduled in less than 3 weeks. I am a little nervous because I haven't had any major surgery before. My fiancee' had this surgery almost 3 yrs ago and had alot of complications. He has never been a compliant person so the restrictions got to him. Not to mention the fact we found out he was allergic to morphine after it had been given and had to be placed in the ICU. Then it was downhill from there. He had blood clots in his lung and an MI after the surgery because he was on a ventilator so long after surgery and couldn't get up to walk. That scares me to think of all the problems he has had. I know what I need to do to keep myself healthy so hopefully I won't go through the same things. He is very happy for me to get the approval, my health has been going downhill since we met over 5 yrs ago. My family on the other hand isn't so happy. My mother thinks its a mistake. I don't. Just looking at all the women on my mom's side of the family convinces me I need this surgery. All of my mom's living sisters are well over 500 pounds and those that have past were also. They died young because of their weight. I don't want that to be me. I turned 30 last year and I want children but I need to be healthy first. Hopefully this blog will give me some peace while I am waiting and afterwards I hope to see change.
Like many of you it has been a lifelong struggle to control my weight. My weight ballooned when I was in nursing school. I gained 100 pounds! Then I got divorced and lost 50 pounds and was pretty happy with that, of course I was starving myself, I barely ate and when I did it was just small things like toast or a glass of OJ. I was just dating my fiancee' at the time and he tells me he would leave to go "get gas in his SUV" but reaslly he was going for food because I starved him. I never realized because I was no longer hungry. Then when we would get something he made me eat so then I started on the roller coaster ride of gaining and dieting. I name the diet pill or program and I probaly tried it. I even gained weight during  my 6 month Dr supervised diet! I know its not all my fault, genetics plays a role and so does having PCOS or polycystic ovarian syndrome. I am just relieved to know the struggle may soon be over. It's been over 3 years since I first started researching and finally I have my date set for surgery. 3/18/08. YIPEEEE
