Surgeon Testimonial

Jonathon Spitz, M.D.
I met Dr Spitz several weeks ago. He was informative, direct, and seemed competent. I have read testimonials from patients both in Spokane and in the previous area he practiced in. I know of the group of surgeons at Rockwood Clinic, and have great confidence that Dr Spitz will do an excellent job! The staff at the office are friendly and fast. Efficiency and timeliness are so important! Special shout out to Theresa Forsman RN my case manager! She holds your hand without seeming perturbed(gotta love it).The program is from a center of excellence so there is presurgical seminars and consults with surgeon, nutritionist, psych and others , and the aftercare program is even more stringent. My only negative "vibe" so far is at the seminar, the nutritionist was talking and came off as pretty biznatchy, I am thinking(hoping) she eats before I have to meet with her, maybe she will be less grumpy....

Should I worry?
on March 4, 2011 8:00 pm
I am a bit over 3 months out and have lost only about 50 pounds..., I am not eating bad things, I am exercising, I am loosing a lot of inches( went from a snug 26 to a loose 22) I have more energy usually.  Being honest I do not make my goal protein most days, I usually get about 1/2-1/3 of it!  But I have been working on it. Having some hair loss which I think is likely due to the deficient protein intake* sigh*  Even though my nutritionist "hates" liquid calories, I am drinking the zero carb isopure ready to drink stuff ( 40 gm protein) , and the same ppl make a smoothie that has 30 gm of protein( and yes it is the whey protein isolate), so I am hoping that adding these to my day will, speed things up a little bit.  I see my nutritionist in about 17 days, would really like to be closer to 65 lbs down by then.....  Here's hoping!!

44days post op
on January 20, 2011 8:01 am
Today is day 44 post op and I am down 30 lbs from surgery date.  I went from a 26 on date of surgery (my highest was 4x 28.) to a loose fitting 24 and some 22s if there is stretch( LOVE THE STRETCH).   I am supposed to advance regular bariatric living diet as it's called on the 21st of this month and I gotta say I am a bit worried.. The transitioning parts of the diet have not been kind to me.  My stomach revolts at the texxture changes.   I can have burger now but no even softer cooked beef chiken has to be darn near ground before I chew it so it appears that i have to transition a bit slower.  I have had 5 episodes of vomiting since my surgery all during times of food changes. BLAH.  On a bright note I am exercising on average of 5 times a week and started taking some classes at the gym.  I love the aerobic classess at Gold's.  The body step one kicked my arse and burned some serious calories!! Boy was I sore  the next day.  Last night my friend and I did the bodyjam which has weights incorporated:  lots of lunges arms abs etc  not as sweaty as the step class but it was fun and I feel it today.  Going to try Zumba on friday and am excited about it  looks like fun.  If you aren't exercising please start!  It helps with weight loss and toning and reay can be fun esp if u have an exercise buddy.  Ta Ta...

one week ( and a little) post op
on December 14, 2010 5:31 pm
weighed today one week and one day after surgery 254.4.  Date of surgery I was 264.0 so not tooo shabby I say, esp since the fluids they gave me packed on an additional 12 pounds Thank you very much!. The pain was not so hot the for 4 days but no pain meds x 2 days now and doin fine without it.  I have noticed some small changes in my upper abdomen, and my pants are a tad looser.  Al in all I have no complaints. Have had poor luch with isopure zero carb mango peach, smells like A$$ couldn't drink it at all!! muscle milk and eas have done ok, that and yogurt.  Don't really get very hungry, but am sure it will come back.  No nausea or vomiting either thank goodness!  Till next time....

All this waiting and now it's like a full out to the finish line.  I am so happy and looking forward to getting rid of this other person I dres and carry with me everyday!!

My Story

it was a dark and stormy night..... no wait, wrong story.  So I guess i have been overweight for most of my adult life. I have been morbidly obese for the last 10 years.  I was thin as a teen but had days where I ate nothing! Can't keep that up forever huh? Anyhoo, I have been looking into WLS for the past two years but as there was no way I could ever come up with the $ it was a pipe dream. My company was recently bought out by a much larger corporation and the insurance as it looks now does cover WLS!    WOO HOOOOOO!   I want so badly to wake up without back pain, have decent cholesterol levels, not hear my hubby tell me how I snore, have hideous reflux attacks and have to sleep on 4 strategically placed pillows,  and be able to have the energy to run and play with my three year old and not have to say"mommy is too big to get on the swing"....   I want to be comfortable in my own skin,  be a good example to my daughter, I never want to shop in the "big girl section " ever again...  I think there are a lot of things this surgery would allow me to do. I am so happy that I actually could have a shot @ it!  Looking for any support/advice I can get.  Not generally much of a "joiner" but it helps to surround yourself with kindred spirits.
