Surgeon Testimonial

Thomas H. Magnuson
At our first meeting, I felt relaxed and put at ease. Even though they forgot to put me into the system,he didn't rush me out and took the time to answer all of my questions. I felt comfortable with him. I was a bit disappointed with him after surgery though. He only saw me once post op; the rest of the time, his surgical team visited me. When I went for my 2 week post op, I didn't see him at all, I saw a P.A. She was very nice but it would have been nice to see him. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I was concerned about having to recieve blood. Even though he reassured me that he has never had to do a transfusion for this surgery and said he would totally respect my wishes, he made a couple of comments that I guess he thought were funny, but not to me. One right before I was wheeled into surgery. I guess all in all, as a surgeon I would rate him a 10+, he is very skilled and takes his time.

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
I wasn't overweight as a young child; I started to pick up weight around 11 years old. Most of my family was overweight and we didn't have rules as far as food goes. I lost weight for the first time when I was 16 and lost about 50 lbs. When I met my husband at age 19 I was well over 200 and my weight just went up from there. I would lose weight through various programs over the years but I would always gain it back plus some. When my husband and I got married, we partied most weekends and that included eating all hours of the night. When the kids came along, we ate out a lot and it wasn't until my daughter was cleaning out her room and we came across some old journals that I realized that 90% of the time we spent together as a family...

Scan of my legs was negative...
on September 29, 2009 9:55 am

Happy Autumn everyone!   The ultrasound done on my legs came back negative; so now they know that I don't have clots.  They still aren't sure what is causing the swelling though.  It comes and goes, so I think it may just be fluid. Anyhoo, I am still waiting for the insurance approval (hopefully).  My doc said they can take anywhere from 48 hours to 45 days!  I will post as soon as I hear anything.

Papers submitted!!!

Well, all of my information has been submitted to the insurance company; now all I can do is wait!  I will have an ultrasound of my lower legs on Monday because I have swelling in them.  I have had it a while so I don't think it is from a blood clot or anything, but my surgeon needs to know what it is.  I hope they don't take too long!

Finished with my insurance requirements!
on September 11, 2009 8:05 pm
I  attended my last support group needed for my insurance requirements.  Now it is in the hands of BCBS!  I am excited but apprehensive.  Attending those support groups are very eye  opening; it is amazing how some people have no problems at all while others have various issues.  I guess  I will have to wait to see which type I will be!
