Surgeon Testimonial

Alex Gandsas, M.D., F.A.C.S.
My first impression of Dr. Gandsas was...He is super quiet. He answers any questions with more information then you imagined, very detailed.rnOver time Dr. Gandsas seemed to open up and talk more, even laughing a time or two. rnrnHis office staff is wonderful especially Nancy Lum his dietitian, any questions you have you can call or email her and she will respond immediately, even general WLS questions not related to food. rnrnI would highly recommend Dr. Gandsas to anybody seeking WLS, you will not be disappointed with his care. After your surgery when he comes in to see you can tell he truely cares about how you are doing and feeling. From 1 to 10 I would give him an 11!rn

on June 9, 2009 7:15 pm
I had my appointment with Dr. Gandsas today & I now have my date scheduled, June 19th!!! The past 6 months have flew right by, I can't believe my surgery is next week. I was expecting that he would have any slots until July, I was very suprised they were going to get me in so quickly.

OK, I just got off of the phone with the office, they are ready to set me up with a date for my surgery....now I am freaking out!!! I am sitting here waiting for them to call me back...this is driving me crazy. Oh, I hope she calls back soon or I may just have a heart attack sitting here at the computer!

My Story

Hi all,
My name is Katie I am 29 years old  and I live in Baltimore Maryland. I have been with my husband since I was 16 years old & we have 4 beautiful children together.

I wasn't always "the big girl", I was rather thin until I hit puberty when I was 10. After that the weight started coming. I was able to control it most of my middle & high school years by starving myself and taking tons of OTC diet pills....I can't believe I did die from all that now that I look back. When I started dating my husband I was 16 and 180 lbs, I always carried the weight well & I didn't look my weight. After each one of my children I gain a ton of weight, not during pregnancy but right after...don't ask me what happened there? Anyway by the time I was 20 my weight had jumped to 230, I got depressed thought I was the fattest person in the world & now I which I was still at 230! Being depressed about my weight just made me eat more, it was a never ending battle with food. I had joined Weight Watchers several times & would lose almost 10% hit a bump in the road and gain it all back. I even tried this one program about 18 months which was crazy, they put me on this weird diet where I could eat 1 boiled egg in the morning with 2 pc of turkey bacon and for lunch & dinner I could have a 1/2 head of lettuce (with no dressing) and a can of tuna, one SF jello per day and up to 2 crystal lights per day & they could only be a certain flavor!!! Plus I would have to go and get B12 shots in my butt 3x week...what was I thinking? I have tried many things out there & would lose some & then gain that plus some back. I have been interested in weight loss surgery for many years but was always to scared to. It wasn't until my father died 2 years ago, while on his death bed one of the last things he said to me is to get my weight under control so I wouldn't be diabetic like his entire family went through. Then like 6 of my family members on my mothers side died in 3 months all from heart attacks, and they were in their late 30's early 40's when this happened last year. Also take in mind that I am the ONLY overweight person in my entire family on both sides...the odds were against me! So I decided to get a physical, during my physical & blood work I found out the cold truth, I was prediabetic had high cholesterol, diagnosed with GERD...OMG I am too young for all this!!! So I decided enough is enough and called Sinai's Bariatric program. I went to the seminar that they hold and I was hooked from that point forward I was determined that I am going to beat this fat, it isn't going to beat me! I went for my first appointment and there I was given the packet with all the tests that I need to have done. I went strait home and started scheduling everything. During my many many tests I found out that I also have moderate sleep apnea and now I have a cpap machine...I feel like a 90 year old not a 29 year old mother of 4. So I went & did all my dietitian meeting required by my insurance and my pre-op appointment is on June 9th!!!!  Let the melting begin
