Surgeon Testimonial

Darius Ameri, M.D.
Dr. Ameri is SO awesome - he is so kind and caring and he really wants to help his patients. He is not just about \"money\" - he truly believe that obesity is a DISEASE and the only way to lose the weight is with a tool of Lap Band OR Bypass - he won me over right away with his kind words, his knowledge of the surgery and his listening skills. He was in the room with me for over 30 minutes just becuase I was talking and asking questios - he NEVER rushed me. The office staff - Sheila and Louise SO awesome - helpful in EVERY way - making my appts for pre-op calling me for with any news ASAP - just WONDERFUL women. Dr. Ameri is ADAMANT about your diet post-op - that is the MOST important thing to him - you MUST follow the program he puts you on - he is there to help - if your having trouble with anything just call the office - he has been great so far - my surgery is in 38 days from today (9/14) ....I will update as soon as I know more

3 Days out and feeling good...
on October 25, 2007 6:44 am
Had the surgery on Monday, October 22nd - so I am 3 days post op and feeling pretty good.  Port site is pretty sore - but the binder and some warm compresses are helping that.  I have yet to have any pain meds but not sure if I will end up getting some chewable tylenol.  I did try the liquid tyelnol but I couldn't take it.  It was just gross and I am a huge baby - I would rather be in pain then have to swallow that nasty stuff.  I had about a 1/2 cup of applesacue this morning - it went down fine.  I have also been drinking my water - the Dr wants me to get in 6oz every 2 hours - it it alot harder than it seems.  They aren't too concerned with the protein as much as the water at this point.  She said week one they just want me to stay hydrated - and drink as much protein drinks as possible.  I have barely had any gas pains - which is good - I did have them in the hospital - but they gave me some heat on my shoulder and it worked itself out.

My mom and I are taking my three little ones to see the Wiggles tonight and I am excited because I feel pretty good - although - I won't be jumping around and it will be weird to be around a bunch of JUNK food and not get to eat it - although - I doubt I will want too anyways.

My husband has been great - he has been sleeping on the couch because its next to the recliner and he wants to make sure he hears me if I need him at night.  Although the recliner is easier to get out of - I still do need a bit of a push.  Hopefully I won't need to be on the recliner for too many more nights - but if I do - its okay - whatever I can do to help me heal faster and feel better.

Well just wanted to send a quick update - I am down 13lbs from pre-op diet on October 8th - I know I could have lost more pre-op but I wasn't the best patient - I didn't cheat with bad food - but I did eat a few "healthy" things I probably shouldnt have :)

Anyways - I am happy I did this - I did have some "regret feelings" yesterday when I couldnt get comfortable and was just cranky - but that has passed and I am truly happy I did this.  I just can't wait to see the results and finally get to say "I am at my goal weight" - I have wanted to say that my entire life :)

My Story

I have been overweight my ENTIRE life since age 6, I have tried COUNTLESS diets - Weight Watchers, Diet Workshop, Dexatrim, Anorexia (starving myself didn't last long) - EVERYTHING to lose weight

I woke up one day after thinking and thinking and thinking about doing "something" and decided that if I wanted to be there for my children, my husband and family then I NEEDED to do this.  My biggest fear was feeling like a "failure" for having surgery - almost as if I took the easy way out - but - I know it was stupid of me to think but I now realize I have not - I NEED to do this for my health and for myself and my children and husband - I am borderline diabetic, high cholestoral, insomnia, its ridicuolous how my life at not even 30 has turned out.  I am so SICK of being FAT and UNHEALTHY - I want to change my habits and be a Confident, Sexy, Strong, Beautiful Woman who is NOT embarrassed by her size.

I thank anyone who is reading this and who is also bettering their own life by having Bariatric Surgery - we are all in this together and TOGETHER we can do this :)

Thanks and I hope you enjoyed my "story"
