Surgeon Testimonial

George Woodman
At the seminar I attended Dr.Woodman seemed informed and not wanting to push one kind of surgery over another. He actually told us at the seminar that if you are seeing a surgeon who only wants to do 1 kind of surgery you are at the wrong place because everyones needs are different. I got the impression that he wanted his patients to research their choices and make the best choice for them, not the best choice for him.rn Cyndy has been really nice when I have called in for any reason. The receptionist (can't remember her name- SORRY!)was extremely nice when I went in for my first appointment too.rn My impression of the office staff is and always has been wonderful!!! They are fantastic!rn Dr. Woodman knows his business! He is very short on bedside manner, but for me that is NOT an issue. I prefer competence over bedside manner.rn There is structured after care in place and a great support group also.rn I rate Dr. Woodman overall as a 10. He knows his business and is about the business of helping you to have a healthier lifestyle than what you are accustomed to. He doesn't have room or time for excuses and you should know that he can be blunt and right to the point with you.

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
I have always been over weight and I tried alot of diets that are out there. Even some that were not safe at all. It is hard to see people look at you like you are deformed or have a disease they can catch just because you are fat.

A BIT ABOUT ME
I have been married for 20 years(11/2008) to a great man. As with all realtionships, not all roses and not all thorns. Definately worth the troubling times. Mother of 3 wonderful kids ages 20, 19, and 13. My children and I got back in Church in 2004 and are loving it! I love reading horror stories and spending time with friends.
I am choosing lapband surgery because the cut and paste surgery sounds way too scary to me. I am a big baby about pain and I just know that I can achieve weight loss without all the extreme pain that goes along with gastric bypass. My advice to anyone considering this journey is research, research, research every type of WLS on the market and choose the one that feels right to them. Each person is an individual and they need to tailor their surgery to their needs.

Disasters...and moving on.
on January 15, 2012 7:58 am
To say that last nights food intake was a disaster is an understatement. I ate more than I needed to, I ate more than I should have, I ate more than I planned to...and so the list goes. Plus it was HIGH fat and carbs and low protein too, along with being slider foods.
Today is a new day and I'm moving forward instead of looking back. Just because I fell off the wagon and slipped all the way down the mountain doesn't mean that I can use it as an excuse to continue making bad choices.
Today I am back on track. I'm logging, I'm pre-planning my food intake. I'm working towards better choices and decisions. I am getting my butt in gear and exercising.

Day 2 completed:
on January 4, 2012 7:08 am
Day 2 of the C25K + 2.29 walk to total 4 miles for the day, completed last night. I'm sore, but pleased with myself for finishing. I wanted to quit at 3 miles.... it would have been sooo easy too. I had almost talked myself into quittng at 3 miles and then I decided that I had 1/4 mile left in me....so I took it 1/4 of a mile at a time until I completed mile 4.
My daughter also told me to google Plank exercises and try a few of them. I had my son ( high schoolfootball player who is recovering from knee surgery) make sure I was holding the right position  and did a few of them. WOW!! my tummy muscles were already complaining about the running on the treadmill, so they are definitely not happy with me this morning.

Today I plan to do a 2 mile WALK at 3mph on treadmill AND some kind of strength exercises... Plank and Burpees maybe??? I'll talk to my son to see what kind of torture ideas he has for me. Plus I want to do some yoga for stretching... We will see how much I can fit in today... I think that I can get it all, IF I'm realistic and only set a 30 minute goal for yoga and 10 minutes each to the other 2 strength exercises. That should equal 90 minutes total for the day.
I'll come back tonight or tomorrow and report how much I actually did.

***See my PLAN for today above.***
I did NOTHING today. I had so much on my plate that I gave myself an excuse not to exercise. I'm holding myself accountable by coming here and being honest with the world about it.

Wow it has been a LONG time.
on January 2, 2012 8:13 pm
January 2, 2012
It's has been a really long time since I've been here. I'm not sure how to classify myself at this point. Not really on track but kind of on the blurry edge.
Last year (2011) I participated in a 500 mile challenge with friends and coworkers. I actually set a goal of 1000 miles for myself. I didn't make the 1000 mark, but I did pass 500 to land at 615 miles.

Exercise Goals:
For 2012, I have a goal of 1200 miles. I am also training for a 5K so that I can run with my daughter. We have set our goals so that they will be achievable. 1) Train for and run a 5K. 2) Train and run a 10K. 3)Train and run a 1/2 marathon. 4)Train and run a full marathon.
**1200 miles should be attainable as long as I stay motivated to continue training.**
I am planning to add some strength and conditioning exercises in also. I just have to figure out WHAT I am going to do.

Food Goals: (Refusing to call it diet goals)
My food intake isn't nearly as great as it could/should be...I'm working on it though.
I'm almost 6 years and 3 months post-op. I've lost, gained and re-lost weight countless times during those years. The wonderful part of that is that I have never gotten back to or near my pre-surgery weight. I went up a pant size and I promise you I didn't enjoy needing to buy larger pants. Now, I'm in between sizes and plan to continue the downward trend in sizes.

Where I am now:                                Where I want to be:
    Weight: 190                                      Weight: 150
Pants size: 16                                    Pants size: ???
Shirt size: 12/14                                Shirt size: ???

I'm committing to make regular stops in to post on my successes and failures. I was most successful when I was more active on OH, so I am coming back to the basics and looking to find support and a swift kick in the butt when needed. The Back on Track Together forum will become a very instrumental tool for me this year.

October 2010/5 years post-op
on October 12, 2010 5:32 pm
It's October 12, 2010

How have I done 5 years post-op?
The truth is, I'm still satisfied with my choice in surgery. I had surgery on my stomach, not my brain... and I've NOT lost ALL the weight I wanted to. I've even re-gained and re-lost some of my weight several times since surgery.

It's SOOO easy to get off track. It is easy to slip back into your old habits. It is easy to let life get in the way and it is extremely easy to self-sabatoge yourself once you get comfortable with post-op life.

It's really hard to get yourself back on track and back into good habits after you have developed bad ones.

Am I perfect? Absolutely NOT!
I'm human and I'm doing the best I can to get myself on track and back to good eating and exercise habits.

June 2009
on June 13, 2009 8:17 pm
Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2009: I went to game Stop today and bought a used one. I used this one tonight and it really kicks butt. I'm excited to be able to add this to my tool box for healthier living.

I have really been wanting to try it for a long while and finally got a chance to pick one up. I will be returning this one tomorrow and trading up for a new one. The game blips in places and when I took it out I noticed that it has lots of scratches on it. I guess I am glad that I got to try it at least, but know I will be happier with a new un-scratched game. I should have just gotten the new one and been done with it.

I've noticed that when the exercises get hard for me I begin telling the Wii Instructor how demented she is. (HAHAHA)

I'm working on getting some exercise in every day.

My plan for the summer is going to be:
M-W-F : 30 minute run on tredmil 2 times a day ......  total 60 minutes daily     (180 weekly)
Tue, Thurs, Sat : 60 Minutes Wii Fit, 80 minutes run, 30 minutes (for now) JM Fitness 09 .......total 170 minutes daily (510 weekly)
Sunday is going to be my day off.

Plenty of water!!!

May 2009
on May 12, 2009 4:23 pm
Long time since I have been here. it is time for me to get back on track! This is the 1st post I placed once I came back on line.

Post Date: 5/12/09 3:57 pm
It has been a long time since I have been on the boards. I am off track and I mean in a major way!

I have gained about 25 total lbs...by doing all the wrong things!

I am trying to get myself back on track and struggling with meal ideas. You would think it would be easy since my hubby is banded also, but our work schedules are so different and we eat on different schedules so that means lots of solo eating (I am eating with the kids actually).

I have begun exercising and am trying to eat better foods. The major problem is I hate to cook. My hubby has been the cook for the longest time at our house and his job hours have drastically increased so I am limited to quick fix foods or eating out. The kids are going to opt for eating out as oposed to me cooking if they can help it.

Any ideas would be appreciated,
Trisha

Other than that I got a Wii and the Wii Fit for my mothers day gift and am using it. Hopefully I will begin seeing results soon.
