Surgeon Testimonial

George Woodman
At the seminar I attended Dr.Woodman seemed informed and not wanting to push one kind of surgery over another. He actually told us at the seminar that if you are seeing a surgeon who only wants to do 1 kind of surgery you are at the wrong place because everyones needs are different. I got the impression that he wanted his patients to research their choices and make the best choice for them, not the best choice for him.rn Cyndy has been really nice when I have called in for any reason. The receptionist (can't remember her name- SORRY!)was extremely nice when I went in for my first appointment too.rn My impression of the office staff is and always has been wonderful!!! They are fantastic!rn Dr. Woodman knows his business! He is very short on bedside manner, but for me that is NOT an issue. I prefer competence over bedside manner.rn There is structured after care in place and a great support group also.rn I rate Dr. Woodman overall as a 10. He knows his business and is about the business of helping you to have a healthier lifestyle than what you are accustomed to. He doesn't have room or time for excuses and you should know that he can be blunt and right to the point with you.

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
I have always been over weight and I tried alot of diets that are out there. Even some that were not safe at all. It is hard to see people look at you like you are deformed or have a disease they can catch just because you are fat.

A BIT ABOUT ME
I have been married for 20 years(11/2008) to a great man. As with all realtionships, not all roses and not all thorns. Definately worth the troubling times. Mother of 3 wonderful kids ages 20, 19, and 13. My children and I got back in Church in 2004 and are loving it! I love reading horror stories and spending time with friends.
I am choosing lapband surgery because the cut and paste surgery sounds way too scary to me. I am a big baby about pain and I just know that I can achieve weight loss without all the extreme pain that goes along with gastric bypass. My advice to anyone considering this journey is research, research, research every type of WLS on the market and choose the one that feels right to them. Each person is an individual and they need to tailor their surgery to their needs.

09/01/06: After a couple of weeks working with my special kids at the school; I am absolutely in love with them. I am loving this job more and more every day. I am amazed at the end of the day as to just how tired, both physically and mentally, I am. I definately get a work out ALL DAY LONG.***I am so excited to be working FULL TIME again. I have been on a LONG hiatus of just working part-time for the past few years.

My weight has stabalized out at about 190 and I fluctuate between 190-195 lately. I know that I need to step up my work out routine. I am hoping that the aerobics class is going to start back up again soon.

JULY 06 (9months post)

No real weight change since 6/27***still weigh 205.
7/1-7/7: We went on vacation to Branson, MO and had a blast. Ripley's Believe it or not, The Titanic exhibit, Silver Dollar City(2days),Shopping, arts and crafts at the activities center at our time share, swimming everyday and lots, lots more. I am sooooo excited about this trip because during the 2 days at SDC I rode every ride I could get in line for :-) and I FIT in the seats. I didn't even have a second of fear that I might not fit, the lines were long for the major roller coasters and I know I would have died from embarrassment if I hadn't fit.

JUNE 06 (8months post)

06/07 is my daughters birthday, she is 16!!!
6-09-06: OK OK I went out to eat for lunch and dinner today. I cheated big time. BUT I also got my bike today and rode it for 2 miles. That isn't far, but to me it is a BIG accomplishment. I haven't been on a bike since I was a kid and to go down the road 1 mile and back is major to me. Planning on riding everyday, my goal is 8 miles.
6/11/06: I am 8 months post-op today!! I have lost 62+/- pounds since surgery. I am now riding a bike 2 miles a day, 2 times a day.I have been consistent for the past 3 days.
6/19/06: Got fill #3 today. WOW it hurt today. For some reason it wasn't easy to access the port and the numbing agent didn't work either. I think it was hard to access because it is my TOM and I am suffering with horrible cramps. No other problems, doc wants me to be walking 4 miles a day even if I am riding a bike. He feels that I won't be getting much exercise in on a bike, compared to walking.
6/27/06: It came! My DH is approved for his surgery! SHHHH don't tell anyone! He got his letter on Saturday, and I am so excited for him. Now I want to call the doc and see what the next step for him is. My DH reminded me that, A.) I have to wait until the doc gets their copy of the approval letter and B.) that I already know the next step since I have already been there.***OK OK so now you know how excited I am for him.

MAY 06 (7 months post)
OK so it is May 3,2006 already.I am still 220 by my scales and I was not looking forward to my last appt., it went fine, I had all the excess fluid off and weighed close to my home scale. ALL SCALES ARE EVIL! I'm not trying to make anyone think that they aren't.
My DH is looking into being banded also,SSSHHHH don't tell anyone. He's a very private person and doesn't want me to blab to anyone and everyone.
Exercise-a necessary EVIL. Something I need to make more time for daily.
5/31/06:I am getting a bike in a few days! I am to short legged for the bike I already have. I just didn't feel safe to ride it. Summer is here and school is officially out so I do not have any excuses as to why I can't find time to exercise. ***9/1/06Other than the fact that it was a million degrees out side in Arkansas. I really hate summer and winter- but give me spring and fall and I'm good.

APRIL 06 (6 months post)
04/02 is my oldest sons birthday, he is 17!!!
04/09:Down another 5 pounds!!! Absolutely cannot wear a size 24 dress anymore, they are way too big on me now. Things have been going much better for me since I re-learned to slow down my eating and take smaller bites. ***I have gone from a 45.8 BMI to 36.9 BMI in 6 months! That is 8.9 points on the BMI scale. I have gone from being MORBIDLY OBESE to just being OBESE.
50poundseal.gif picture by LaraNicole
52 pounds gone forever and 65 more to loose to be at goal! If I understand the % math correctly- I have lost roughly 45% of the weight I plan to loose! Hallelujah and Thank You Jesus! I owe it all to Your Glorious Name.

04/17/06:OK it is my TOM so I am up to 220 again. It is water weight and I am not worried about it other than the fact that I am going to see my doctor in a few days and am not sure I can pull it off before my appointment. I can't go in and see him again and not show any loss. The last time was traumatic enough to me. Food choices are good, I am getting in plenty of water and exercise is going well, so I am confident that it is only water weight. My rings are all to tight for me and my legs are swollen again.
