Hello 
I'm a forty-something mom and nurse. Weight issues became a problem about 15 years ago. Like most of you I have tried every diet known to man without long term results. After my husband died in March 2006, the reality of my unhealthy weight really hit home. I was now completly responsible for raising two pre-teen boys. I needed to get my act together for myself and my boys. I know the Lap-band is the tool I need to get the weight off and keep it off!

Well, now I'm 50 something with a failed band(Major slip) I'm now planning revision to Bypass.

well, today is the 1st day I could bring myself to this page to say the word FAIL.  Sooo much damage from the lap-band that revision to RNY would have been dangerous.  I still find it hard to grasp that this journey has taken this turn, I am devastated...

Reflux really bad last nite, had to sleep upright on the couch. May 9th can't come soon enough!!

Pre-Op appointment 4/24/13, can't come soon enough. I hope my surgical date is early May Please!!!

5/30/13 will be my 6 yr surgerversary for the lapband, I'd like to start my new life before then.

UGI scheduled for 4/2/13; it is going to take a lot longer to get "my date" than I hoped.   :(

Found out on Friday that insurance approved revision to RNY, but Dr's office didnot return my call. This am I called  Dr office; yes, they are aware of approval but they can't work on pre-op scheduling until tomorrow :(  .  It's soo hard to be patient when I've been waiting so long with discomfort from this $#*++y slipped band!!!  I should be jumping for joy that I got approved!!!

My Story

     Although my profile says I'm a member since 2/13/07, I've been reading the OH Rhode Island forum posts since summer 2006.   I heard about the Lap-Band procedure about 5 years ago.   At the time circumstances, life and death got in the way.   Since that time I've been learning all I could about the procedure, while still trying to lose the weight on my own.  Well...now the time is right, if I can get my insurance carrier to cooperate!   My 1st appt. with Dr. Roye was Nov. 20, 2006; after countless calls to UHC, and re-faxing of information, I found out on 1/31/07 that they would deny approval for the Lap-Band.   My policy has no exclusions for WLS, only that it be medically necessary, and done by an in network provider.   I checked and double checked this before I even made the appt. with Dr.Roye. 
Thankfully, I was able to change my insurance carrier and got almost instant approval. Submitted 2/27/07--approved 3/1/07-- testing completed 4/7/07-- pre-op appt. 5/14/07--surgery date 5/30/07!!

Jan '09-- Sept '12 fills and un-fills, major reflux, symptoms of slip, Sept '12 major slip. Sometimes the tool is just not the right one for long term success no matter how hard you try to make it work!
