Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
Before menopause I never really struggled with my weight. If I needed to lose weight, dieting with Atkins or just cutting back would work and I could usually drop the weight fairly quickly. However, upon entering pari-menopause at about age 45 everything changed. My fat distribution changed (I had back fat for the first time ever). Menopause was long and worse than puberty for me. Finally after seven years the docs got my hormones settled and I was able to lose a good deal of the 70 lbs. I had gained. I dieted and was truly conscientious about exercise and food for the next seven years. Then in 2007 I quit smoking and within 3 years all of the weight I had lost plus some came back. It was a dreadful three plus years. My daughter had Bariatric...

Six month surgeversery
on April 5, 2012 9:44 am
I can't believe it has already been six months since my surgery.  I'm down a little over 50 pounds and feel wonderful.  I've gone from a size 20 jeans to a 14 and from a 3X top to XL.  I can stand to iron for longer than 15 minutes, and can actually stoop and bend while doing yard work.  I think my garden will look prettier this year then it has in a few years past since I can actually do some weeding.

As any of you know, who have read my previous blogs, my weight loss is very slow compared to many.  I think this has a lot to do with my age and having less than 100 lbs. to lose.  But I celebrate each pound gone and feel so happy that it continues to come off.  I am healthier and feel better than I have in years.

This surgery has been a life saver/restorer and I am so happy that I have had the opportunity to experience it.

Finally!!!

I'm so excited.....50 lbs. gone forever.  It is such a slow process for me, but boy does it feel great when I hit a milestone.  It is hard to believe that I carried around the same amount of weight as the huge cat litter bags my husband buys for our cats and that I can't lift.  But, I was lifting it every day before surgery.....no wonder my knees and back hurt so badly!!!!

I'm down another size in pants which is wonderful, I can stand up to iron and cook now and I've actually lost half a shoe size.

I just have to be so vigilant about getting all my water every day, that seems to make such a difference.  Just another 40 to go to meet the doc's goal and another 50 to meet my goal.....so I'm half way there.

LIFE IS GOOD.

Water works

Down another pound....so 45 now which is awesome.  Drinking all of my water each day is leading to a metablism change and I'm losing again.  It is really a chore to get it all down, but it seems to be the only way to keep the pounds coming off.  Five more to go and I'm half way to goal.  I'm looking to lose 100, my doc wants 90, so I'm halfway to his goal which is terrific.

Still such a slow go....

Still losing but oh so slowly.....down 44 lbs. since 10/5/11.  Can't wait to hit that 50 lbs. lost mark.  I'm increasing my exercise and really making an effort to get in all of my water, because that is what seems to help increase my metabolism the most.

As my daughter always said this surgery is not a magic bullet.....I have to work at this just like I had to diet and exercise before the surgery to lose weight.  The best part is I don't get as hungry now and don't crave sweets like in the past.

So, I am hoping I'll be back on here in the very near future celebrating 50 lbs. gone forever.

Losing sooooooooooooooo slowly
on February 3, 2012 11:22 am
Today I was down another 2 pounds from last week, but I had plateaued at a 40 lb. loss for about 2.5 weeks.  I get worried that my loss is so much slower than almost all of the other folks who's blogs and posts I read, and have to constantly remind myself that my "old" metabolism probably plays into that.  Also, I really have to remember that there is a reason that we are told to consume so much water and protein.....and when I do the recommended amount it seems to help speed up the weight loss.  I'm also going to Curves three to four times a week and I'm hoping that will help with the plateau issues in the coming days and weeks.

But, even as slow as it is, I am happy to be at a 42 lbs. loss.....it will be four months post-op on Sunday.......and I'm so glad that I had this surgery.
