Surgeon Testimonial

Kevin McGill M.D.
Great surgeon!! 40 minute surgery for me, no complications!! Great bedside manner!! This is the surgeon for you!! I would let any family member of mine see him. I switched surgeons and I am so glad I let Dr. McGill perform my surgery.

The worst thing about WLS...
on September 26, 2011 6:46 pm
Got your attention didn't it?!

I was recently asked this question by someone at our meeting who has not undergone WLS yet. I had to really think about it.

First, I thought that maybe the amount of food that we cannot eat anymore...nah, that's a good thing. Then I thought maybe about what is the point of going out to eat, same thing, not being able to eat a lot. Maybe it is when I'm down I can't eat everything in sight like I used to console myself but now I can't. No, that's not the worst thing about this surgery either.

After we had all talked about different aspects of the surgery, it hit me. The worst thing, the very worst thing I can think of that was most horrible about this surgery is....The Leak test. Yep, I have settled on that one. And since it only lasts a few minutes, why would we be worried about this surgery?

It is truly amazing how this works so well.

We had a terrific meeting tonight. It wasn't our regularly scheduled meeting of the 2nd Saturday of the month. We had several new people, 2 that haven't had the surgery yet that I really wanted to meet and encourage. Scott, who is scheduled for the sleeve on Oct. 17th, Joann who is pre-op, no date yet, Mary Beth who had Gastric Bypass in 2008 and looks amazing and her mother, Jackie who had the same procedure, and again, looks amazing, then there is Vickie, who hit goal at 7 months, again, AMAZING!! Then there was me, 5 months out and 75 pounds down, I am very proud of that!!

We met at Broadway Diner, some of us shared meals, I got the biggest Club Sandwich in the world, it will take me all week to eat it. That is a good thing!!

Our next scheduled meeting is October 8th at 11:30 at Fitness Spa in Peachtree City. Sure hope we see everyone then. We will have a clothes swap in addition to us talking and exchanging ideas. For those who would like to attend, bring your lightly worn winter clothes to share. If you don't have anything, no worries, come get what you need!! We need some more men to come, we women encourage them the best we can but it would be nice to have more men! Spread the word!!

I am also in the process of trying to get a room at Piedmont Fayette Hospital for us to meet. The place we recently met at may not be ideal. I'll let you know how it goes. For now we will plan on meeting at Fitness Spa until further notice.

Please send ideas that work for you to encourage others.

Ta, ta for now!!

Thanks for your support

91 days post op or 13 weeks...
on July 11, 2011 2:34 am
I am amazed!! The Lord is soooo very good!! I have been unable to exercise at all. Been unable to hardly sleep with the pain in my hip/back and still I am losing. Been trying to eat the right foods and it has paid off big time.

Current weight: 213.8 which is 56.2 pounds down POST-OP!! That is insane!!
Inches Lost since last month: 4.5, Total inches lost: 40!! Crazy!!

I would love to post before and after pics but for some reason I am unable to. It says they are too big no matter how small I shrink them.

I have tried to stick to the all protein diet. Trying for no carbs but of course I do get some in. I was going for 2-3 weeks with a small loss and then having a big one after that but that seems to have ceased with the lack of exercise, not complaining.

Wednesday is my 3 month follow up appt. with Dr. McGill and I am looking forward to it. Was trying to wait this pain thing out until I talked to him. You know when you have something wrong you have to start at some place and who knows where you will end up. Going from one doctor to another. I was hoping Dr. McGill could pinpoint what was wrong and give me some insight of where to go from here. I hope I haven't waited too long to get some relief. I was taking Ibuprofen a couple of times a day and I think it has messed my stomach up. I was sick yesterday, probably why I lost that amount of weight (3.6 pounds) this week.

Trying  new things:
Taco seasoned beef with diced tomatoes and greek yogurt
meatballs
Quiche (good protein!)
Mexican casserole with shredded chicken, cheese, green chilies, greek yogurt, tomatoes
Lots of cheese, cottage cheese
I think I dump with very sweet things so I have to stay away from that, nice reminder to stay on track by the way!

Overall I am happy with the results so far. I have been dragging lately so I'm hoping the doc will do some bloodwork and see if I'm lacking in some department. I know work has been awful lately, especially trying to eat. I have never been so stressed out that I couldn't eat until I took this job. My husband is so supportive but is putting on weight, he wanted to lose weight with me. I don't know what else to do for him. Everyone is noticing the weightloss, even little kids when they hug me, they look up with a question mark in their eyes. It is pretty funny! Even my feet are shrinking. My grown boys think I am shrinking in height too but I was told I would look taller as I lost weight. I don't know how 5'4" could look taller but I was hoping anyway.

The Support Group I started has been great! We had 7-8 people at the last one and I have been trying to find another location besides my home to have it. I know we may have another 1-2 people coming tomorrow. Keeps me accountable!

It's all good! (my new motto!)

12 weeks!
on July 4, 2011 7:15 am
This is my 12 week post op:
Pounds lost: 52
Inches Lost: 35
Exercise: not as good as when I first started but haven't had a stall yet!! Hoping to up the ante now that my back is feeling better, ( I hurt it by starting to run before I should have)
Water: need more as well
Vits: doing good swallowing horse pills

Foods: Mug Eggs, cheese sticks, meatballs and sauce, shrimp, trying not to do carbs and when I do this I still get at least 40 grams. I think this is the key for me to losing weigh****ching my carbs.

Okay, next!! What is working for you?!

I go July 13th for my 3 month post op appt and I am so psyched!!

11 week update!! Woo Hoo!!
on June 27, 2011 4:29 am
Lovin' the scale!! Lost another 2 pounds! Don't know how, I haven't exercised in 2 weeks due to my back and hip hurting but am happy with the results. Would probably come off faster if I was exercising and I plan on starting back again today after work.

So now I am down 50.2 pounds!!

We did go to Dahlonega, GA Saturday and walk around some but I was in horrible pain until I could take some Advil.

How is everyone else doing?

Vits: Getting them all in including Calcium Citrate horse pills!
Water: Still working on getting more. If I don't get in at least 48 ounces in I have horrible leg cramps at nights.
Exercise: nada, but that changes today!!!
Food: Eating about the same stuff. I need to plan better. Still enjoying Eggface's Mug eggs, chicken, Laughing Cow cheese, Greek yogurt mixed into different things in place of sour cream, cottage cheese with fruit

Advice: Take your measurements before surgery and each month thereafter, take a before picture and then take a picture once a month, at least!!

10 week update!
on June 20, 2011 3:57 am
Lbs. Lost: 48.2!!  (all post op!)
Inches Lost: 35!!

I lost 3.6 pounds last week, weigh in was today. Amazing, since I hurt my back running and haven't done a thing. I am praising the Lord for losing weight.

My job is soooo very stressful and I have a hard time eating while there. I'm hoping I haven't really messed up my protein intake since I cannot tolerate the protein shakes. I have an interview today for Sleep Tech, let's hope this works out, everyone seemed so nice and this is what I went to school for.Starting over is difficult but it has to be better than what I am going through.

Everyone is finally noticing that I'm losing weight! My husband was right, I was still wearing the same clothes, pretty much a tent, how would they know I had lost weight wearing things like that? I put away my size 20's, some of my 18's, I'm in between 16 and 18, what a great place to  be!! I have begun wearing dresses and skirts to work so I don't have to buy more pants, I think I can get away with the dresses and skirts for awhile and...drumroll please....My thighs don't rub together as bad as they used to. I would never dream of wearing a dress or skirt all day for that one reason.

I am so very blessed to have had this surgery and to be able to lose this weight. Praying I will be able to exercise soon. I wanted to begin weightlifting like Brandi Wonderland, her arms look terrific but until my back cooperates, I better be patient.

Our support group is going wonderfully. I have written several phone numbers down to call and find a bigger place for us to meet. We have a very diverse group coming and we are all learning so much from each other along with lots of support.

Praise be to God!!
