I went through the typical teasing as I grew up. I was always the chubby girl, but it never seemed to hold me back. I was active, I had good friends and was pretty happy most of the time. Later in life things became very difficult and I turned to food for comfort, which brings me to where I am today. Large, sad, in pain and ready to make a change. I have 2 wonderful boys who need me and I am determined to be here for them.

Hi everyone, here is my weight loss surgery story. I initiated the journey in September of 2007. After a couple of years of thinking it over, I went to my primary doctor and asked if she thought it was a good idea. She was thrilled and referred me right away to the Highland Hospital Bariatric Surgery Center. I was required to go to a seminar first to learn what the surgery was all about, the pros and cons and what to expect in all phases. I did that in December of 2007. Once that was completed the surgeon's office called me to set up a series of nutritionist appoinments and also set up a psychological evaluation. I had the psych eval first. I was pretty nervous, but it went well and I was approved. Next was a nutritional seminar followed by 2 follow ups each 4 weeks apart. At the nutritional seminar I learned about good eating habits, balancing meals, exercize and learned about things I would need to give up and things I would need to start. No more carbonated beverages and start taking my vitamins. I was required to keep a food journal for the entire 12 weeks to monitor my progress. In the process I lost 10 pounds. Not a huge amount, but I am still proud of my hard work. I am not allowed to gain any weight before the surgery. Finally, I got the call to come and see the surgeon to set a surgery date. I will be seeing him at the end of May. I am so excited and nervous. It has been a long road, but it has gone by pretty quickly. I hope my surgery will be done over the summer so I can have a good start on my weight loss before winter sets in. I will do my best to keep things updated and provide pictures of my progress.
