Gaining Weight
on February 26, 2008 3:52 am
I have not been following any type of "diet" these past few weeks and it is showing on the scale.  Nut group is on March 5th and I would hate to weigh more than the previous meeting.  I got on the scale this morning... not good.  Since Feb. 7th I have gained 6 pounds!  UGGGHHH!!!  I don't know how I am going to get through these next few months before I qualify for the surgery.  I want it sooooo bad!!  This is depressing....

I view the recently uploaded photos on this site daily and I want to be one of the happy losers!  There are so many happy, smiling, post-op faces! Their stories are so encouraging, but right now I am not in a good place.  I have PMS (seems like I have PMS constantly lately) and my cravings and hunger are out of control.  I just don't know what to do.

Cottage cheese revisited
on February 15, 2008 3:45 pm
Here's the scoop -- an OH friend of mine suggested I try the Breakstone's cottage cheese doubles.  She is also not a big fan of cottage cheese, so I figured if she likes it, maybe I will to.  So I bought some today and when I needed a snack I ventured to the fridge and fetched a strawberry one.  I proceeded to open it....  Yup, looks like the same curdled grossness I remembered from years ago.  I take a small spoonful and smell it.  No foul smell.  I put the small spoonful in my mouth (without the fruit) to test my gag reflex AND......... it wasn't that bad!  I then took a spoonful with the strawberries and sauce and it was actually GOOD!!  I ate all but the last bite of cottage cheese (I would have eaten it, but I ran out of strawberries).  Next time I will take a bigger first bite without the fruit, then I will be able to enjoy the rest of the serving with the fruity goodness!

Psych Eval on 2/6/08
on February 7, 2008 8:58 pm
I met with Dr. Goldstein (total fees paid $600) yesterday to review the results of my "personality tests".  I waved my hands in the air and asked, "Any red flags??"  (Mind you, my dad was a diagnosed, un-medicated paranoid schizophrenic.)  No red flags.  Just 3 issues he feels could get in the way of my obesity treatment.  According to these results:

1.  I am bossy and like control.  TRUE.  I am a control freak.  Mostly that comes from having an alcoholic father and an out-of-control life in my late teens and early 20's.  I got better, but still try to maintain control in all aspects of my life.

2.  I have issues with trust.  FALSE.  I am a very trusting person -- too trusting, I think!

3.  I have self-esteem issues.  Well, DUH!  Of course I do - I'm FAT - I don't like the way my body looks!!  However, he is right on this one.  Even when I was younger and thinner I still felt as though I was not as good as everyone else.  Even when I graduated from high school at 118 lbs. I thought I was FAT because I had wide-set hips (supposedly good for childbirth, but I had a c-section, go figure!)

On the bright side, he said that I have a positive outlook, which is good.  Guess I passed.

2/7/08 YUCK - Cottage Cheese! (Nut Group)
on February 7, 2008 8:47 pm
Ok, another thing that came up today in the Nut Group was cottage cheese.  First of all, why do they call it that??  Is it made in a cottage??  Maybe only people who live in cottages should eat it.....??  (I think so!)

A participant in the Nut Group today gave us a "yummy" cottage cheese mixture recipe.  Of course I sat there with my nose crinkled up saying, "Ewww, I HATE cottage cheese!"  But of course, I am now willing to try it because of the way she described it.  (Ut oh - having a Tilapia flash back here!!!)

Any how, she said to combine 1/2 cup of FF cottage cheese with a heaping spoonful of Smuckers S/F preserves (she uses blackberry) , then sprinkle with a little cinnamon.  According to her it tastes like PIE..... PIE???  REALLY???  C'mon!
PIE????

I will report back on my opinion next week.  BTW - you all know that cottage cheese is LOADED with protein, right??
I had no idea until today.

2/7/08 Nut Group
on February 7, 2008 8:41 pm
Ok, that's a funny title!  'Nut Group'! HA!

Today I attended my first group session with my wonderful nutritionist, Carolyn Losure.  She has WAY too many initials after her name to even attempt.

There were 6 of us "patients" there;  3 post-op RNY, 1 post-op band, and 2 pre-op (including me).  It was very helpful and informative.

One thing I learned at this session was that although my insurance (Aetna) requires a 6-month pre-op supervised nutrition program, I am NOT required to lose weight.  Can you say, "BYE BYE CRAPPY, 1,200 CAL./DAY, LOW-CARB DIET???"   I will continue to try new foods and to eat better, but now I feel a sense of relief that if I don't stick to the "meal plan" then I won't be a complete failure.
