Almost there...........!
on July 9, 2008 6:01 am

On Wed.  July 2nd I attended the monthly nutrition group, except this time I went to the evening one since I would be away for the morning one.  Carolyn, my nutritionist, looked in her folder for my paper(s) and did not have them.  She thought she had already "sent" me in.  I told her that I thought I had one more month to go, plus I have not yet had the sleep study done.  She then realized that she could not have possibly submitted me if that study was not done.  So... some time in the next month I should have that completed, then by my calculations, the August meeting will be my SIXTH!!!  That should mean that my info can be submitted to Aetna for approval and a surgery date set.

I am getting excited and nervous about the upcoming surgery and at the same time I am praying that Aetna doesn't jerk me around!

A woman I met at the meetings had her RNY in April (she is down 50 lbs.) ..... she told me the bill from the surgery was $38,000.  Her insurance (Cigna) has a $350 co-pay.  Mine has a 10% co-pay.  I thought to myself, "My God, that's more than I expected to have to pay!"  We won't have nearly enough left in our medical flex account, so I guess I will have to work out a payment plan.  Kinda scary with the price of fuel and the winter heating season right around the corner.  But these are all things to consider (not that I would change my mind on the surgery- NO WAY!)

My mom is still worried about me doing this and my friends have mixed feelings.  I know my husband is nervous about it, but he is supporting my decision.

I have met so many RNY patients and not a single one has any regrets.  That speaks volumes!
