Snack Attack
on February 3, 2010 1:03 pm
I'm not entirely sure this 'applies' to those of us who have had WLS; however, being in the maintenance phase of my journey, it makes sense.  At 19 months out, I look at every calorie as if I'm absorbing 100% of it, because there really isn't any way to tell how much each individual's intestines 'adapt' to the malabsorption--or at what point.

Anyways...food for thought...

CLICK Espresso Protein Drink

CLICK Espresso Protein Drink Snack Attack? Here's an easy way to determine how many snack calories you should eat. Start by calculating how long since you last ate; every hour is worth 100 calories. So, if you ate lunch at noon and it's now 2:00 p.m. you should have no more than 200 calories as a snack to hold you till dinner time. CLICK calories ~ 120 :))

A GREAT Recipe for LIFE [per Yvonne M.]
on November 22, 2009 4:15 pm
A GREAT RECIPE FOR LIFE...

1.Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.

2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Talk to the God of your understanding about what is going on in your life.

3. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, 'My purpose is to __________ today. I am thankful for______________'

4. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.

5. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon, broccoli, almonds & walnuts.

6. Try to make at least three people smile each day.

7. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.

8. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.

9. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

10. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

11. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

12. You are not so important that you have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

13. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.

14. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

15. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

16. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: 'In five years, will this matter?'

17. Forgive everyone for everything.

18. What other people think of you is none of your business.

19. GOD heals everything - but you have to ask Him.

20. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

21. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch!!!

22. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

23. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: I am thankful for __________.
Today I accomplished _________.

24. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.

25. When you are feeling down, start listing your many blessings. You'll be smiling before you know it.

26. READ 7 AND 14 AGAIN!

Coding for BCBS--Follow-up
on June 3, 2009 1:31 pm
Post Date: 6/3/09 10:05 am
Sounds like you need to have the lab resubmit your claim with a corrected diagnostic code.  (Or maybe your doctor needs to do that, depending on how the lab works).  Here's a list of possible diagnostic codes.

My doc usually puts "Vitamin D Deficiency" and "Intestinal Malabsorption" and "Post surgical follow up" --- I have BCBS PPO and have never had problems with full payment.

  • 244.9 hypothyroidism
  • 250.0 diabetes
  • 265.0 Beriberi
  • 265.1 Other and Unspecificed Manifestations of Thiamine Deficiency (B1)
  • 266.2 cyanocobalamin deficiency (B12)
  • 268 vitamin D deficiency
  • 268.2 metabolic bone disease
  • 269.2 hypovitaminosis
  • 269.3 zinc deficiency
  • 272.0 hypercholesterolemia
  • 275.40 calcium deficiency
  • 276.9 electrolyte and fluid disorders
  • 280.9 iron-deficiency anemia
  • 281.0 pernicious anemia
  • 281.1 other B12 deficiency anemia
  • 281.2 folate deficiency anemia
  • 285.9 anemia, unspecified
  • 401.9 hypertension
  • 579.3 post-surgical malabsorption
  • 579.8 intestinal malabsorption

My Story

I am a 34 year old mother to four beautiful kids, ages 11, 8, 5 and 2; and the wife of a wonderful school teacher.

Weight has always been an issue for me.  I have gone from the pudgy little girl-chubby elementary student-overweight in high school-fat wife to just plain old morbidly obese mom.  I can no longer sit back and let things go.  I am tired of being the mom sitting on the sidelines, watching my kids and hubby being active and having fun, while I sit and watch because I am too tired, in too much pain, or simply too embarrassed.   I WANT TO ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN LIFE!!!

Headaches, neck and back pain are a given, with the excess weight pulling down on all those muscles.  And sore knees, swollen ankles and fat feet are a constant because there is simply too much weight on my small frame.

I am done letting food control me.  The WLS is a tool that I plan to use to regain complete control; portion wise as well as restriction.
