Surgeon Testimonial

A. Joseph Cribbins
I've only seen Dr. Cribbons twice. The first meeting was a seminar. I was very impressed and felt confident. The second was my initial office visit and VGS was set up for Oct. 25. The meeting was very short, but I could not think of more questions to ask. I'll write more as I know more.rnrn6-12-2008rnWell, I am finally updating my surgeon's report. Dr. Cribbins is wonderful. I had my VSG on Oct. 25, 2007 and all has gone very well. He did an excellent job and I have had no complications. The vast majority of his patients are lap banders, but I believe that will change as the insurance companies come on board with the VSG. He is very warm and friendly and always sets me at ease. He does not volunteer tons of information, but he does answer any and all questions so be prepared to ask. I am especially impressed with his twice monthly support group which he attends (unless he is on call and has been called). His poor family must never see him. I have talked to many of his patients, many nurses, and several other doctors and everyone has had nothing but good things to say about Dr. Cribbins. I highly recommend him.

Thursday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench!

Six Month Check-in
on June 12, 2008 8:44 pm
Six Month Report OK, actually it has been 7 months, but I just had my 6-month check-up. All the results on my blood test were perfect! I am so happy. I have lost 55 pounds and that is 61% of my excess weight. I now weigh 156 and need to get to 122, but would like to get to 112. We will see. I am a happy, happy camper. I have no complaints. I haven’t been the best sleever. I haven’t exercised as regularly as I should. One month I am very good and the next not so much. I have also not been very good about my eating, but I have been religious about my water and protein intake and about taking my vitamins and Biotin. You can’t tell I have lost any hair! Yeah! My husband and I went to Europe on a military hop. We spent a month away from home and I was a very bad girl. I had German bread and a German pastry every day. I also had ice cream and candy 3-4 times. (I did, however, make sure I got in my water, protein, vitamins, etc.) When we got home I was delighted to find that I had only gained 3 pounds. I went right back to sensible eating and in three days those three pounds were gone. It has been three weeks since we arrived home and I am down another three as well. This sleeve is amazing! During my pre-op I asked my doc what he thought (realistically) I would weigh when all was said and done. He said "155, but you may lose much more". I plan on losing "much more". But even if I was not to lose another pound I would still be a very happy person. My PC told me today that she thinks I will be able to get off blood pressure meds in another few months. She has already reduced those meds by half and I am doing great. I still have asthma, but it is so much better as are my allergies and my drainage. I have been able to cut those meds in half as well. I still need my CPAP and always will. My family has a history of low blood oxygen levels when we sleep. I still have fibromyalgia, but it too is much less painful. I am still diagnosed with MS, but have had no significant increase in symptoms. My point for the newbies and pre-ops is that VSG is not a cure for everything that ills you, but it is the greatest thing since the invention of the wheel! The effects of surgery were a little rough for 3-4 days, but since that time it has been clear sailing. I have had absolutely no complications, no malabsorption, and I look and feel healthy. My parents died at 56 and my brother at 58, and my maternal grandmother at 38. All were obese, all have high-blood pressure as well as other co-morbidities. I have finally done what I needed to do to live longer and I couldn’t be happier. I do not regret the $14,500, or the sacrifice it took. I t was worth every penny and much more. See for yourself! Pat

Just 9 days until I have my VSG!  The VSG forum has been my greatest help.  Thanks!
