Week 27
on June 30, 2012 9:56 am
Wow it's been so long since I updated. 6 weeks and I am only down another 3 lbs. This is discouraging but I think it's because I am at the pool 4 or more times a week. I am swimming till I ache. Richard says that he can see how my fat is changing to muscle, but it's not enough for me. The bat wings are flapping away and my belly is squishy. I guess I shouldn't complain, a year ago I was in a size 24 bathing suit. Now I am in a 12-14.
Richard is just about 3 months out and he is down about 50 lbs. I am glad he has lost his budda belly. It is so wonderful being able to put my arms around him and his around me.

Week 19
on May 4, 2012 8:59 am
I have not updated in several weeks. Alot has happened. Richard had surgery on April 10th. Down over 30 lbs. He's in the hospital right now for dehydration. He'll come home sometime today.

I haven't been doing too great lately. I have been at a standstill with my weight loss. I am down to about 165 give or take a day, but I can't seem to drop as quickly as I used too. I am bummed about this, but it was inevitable.I really want to be down to my goal weight by August 22nd, but right now 30 pounds may as well be 100 because of this plateau.

What has got me more bummed is my hair loss. Clumps coming out in the shower. Again, I knew this was inevitable but it still sucks.

I can't wait for the pool to open so I can start swimming and doing water aerobics. I love the water. Maybe I can get my metabolism back in gear.

This is going to be a great week!
on April 8, 2012 1:04 pm
1-It's Easter Sunday, my favorite day of the year. I love Jesus and all He is doing and has done in my life.
2-Only 2 more days till Richard has his sleeve surgery. I am so excited for him.
3-Simon's first birthday party is this coming Saturday. I can't believe the little bugger is almost a year old and he will be a big brother along with Gideon in just 3 1/2 short months. Can't wait to meet you Elijah Louis Ksenzakovic.
4-I have lost 52 pounds since the surgery. My rate of weight loss has slowed down greatly, but I am not discouraged. I haven't spent alot of time at the gym and I have been experimenting with new foods.  Come Tuesday, I will be back into the swing of things to support Richard.

Happy Birthday to me!!!!!!!!!!!
on March 19, 2012 1:06 pm
Well I survived the "birthday weekend".  Started out Saturday morning at the "Chik" for mini's. Ate 2 w/o the bisquit and on the road to SC. We met up with my parents for lunch at Ruby Tuesday's. Had a slice of Richard's steak and was good to go.
The fun started when my sibs and their families came over to mom and dad's for dinner. FATS ribs and chicken strips.
I could feel the eyes watching me on how much I was eating. Even my father commented on how much cake I ate.  I knew this would happen, but it still hurt. Being judged by what I eat. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh.
They didn't know that I could only eat such as small amount of food and that I couldn't have anything to drink to wash my food down. They didn't know how I scraped out the sugarfree pudding from the inside of the cake and how I was nursing the cake as it melted in my mouth. They don't know how much my gut hurt from overeating my birthday cake.  Oh well, there's always the next family function to bring out my family's disfunction.
On a more upbeat note, went to see Dr. DePeri for the 12 week follow-up and he is happy with my weight loss. Although I did get into a little trouble for not taking my omeprazole to prevent ulcers.  I told him that I didn't lose any weight this week b/c Richard and I have been going to the gym alot. 4x last week, I am aiming for 5 this week. Also bought a very expensive sports bra-to keep the girls from bouncing all over the place.

While at dr Taylor's office for yet another sinus infection. I was looking at my weight on my chart. My highest weight was on 7/21/08 when I was 249 lbs. That was when thing were really bad for us. Richard was only getting short term disability from his job at Baptist and I couldn't find a job. Food was the only thing in my life I felt I was able to control at the time.
I am so grateful to God for allowing this surgery. Even if I don't ever lose another pound, I feel I have been given my life back. Thank you Abba Father!

week 11
on March 10, 2012 11:14 am

It was a good week. I met with the trainer at the rec center. Found out how to use the machines correctly. She gave me a detailed total body work out. I haven't done it yet by myself, but will start on Monday. Lost 3 more pounds. Also found out I cannot eat anything fried. I not only barfed it up, but then had acid coming up while I was sleeping last night. Woke up took some gaviscon and then promptly barfed again.  Next weekend we are going to South Carolina to visit my family. I am excited but anxious about how my family will react when they see me. They've only seen photos posted on facebook.

My Story

I am a 50 year old mom to 4 great kids and 2 grandsons, with a 3rd grandchild due in late July 2012. I have been married to my best friend Richard for almost 20 years.
My weight has always been an issue for me. With each baby came more weight. By the time my 4th child was born in 1996, my weight had ballooned to almost 250 lbs. I would lose and gain that last 25 for another 15 years. Never getting below 225-230 regardless of what diet or exercise program I was on.
In the past few years, I was having complications from the diabetes. The biggest complication was gastroparesis. It is a condition where your stomach doesn't process food as quickly and normally as it is suppose to. Food would basically sit and ferment in my stomach and then I have would bow to "King Ralph" to get rid of it. Eating was not a pleasurable experience for me at all. This also caused a reflux problem which was so bad my vocal chords became damaged. I lost my voice for almost 3 months.
I had checked out bariatric surgery about 4 years ago, but at the time it wasn't a covered benefit under my husband's insurance.
When I found out my Blue Cross would cover it, I was determined to have surgery.  After many bumps along the way, I finally had a laproscopic RNY on 12/23/11.
I am only 2 weeks into this new life, but I am starting to feel like 2012 is going to be a good year.
My presurgery weight on 11/26/11 (Black Friday) was 220 lbs. I was advised to start the preop diet then while waiting for approval. Insurance lost first request, second request was sent and denied due to missing info. Jarrod and Megan at Memorial Bariatric worked with insurance to get approved.  By the time I was admitted to the hospital, I was down to 214 lbls. Since I have been home, I have lost an additional 14 and am now tipping the scales at 200. Woo Hoo. My next goal is to be at 185 lbs, but my birthday on March 19th.
My husband Richard is waiting to have the sleeve done. His sleep apnea dr is making him do another 3 weeks on the CPAP. Hopefully by the end of February he will be able to have his surgery.
